About retinoic acid
Vitamin A (retinol) enters the human body from animal products as retinol esters, and is also formed from b-carotene, a plant precursor of this vitamin. In cosmetology and medicine, retinoids are mainly used - synthetic analogues of the vitamin, which have its biological activity. These analogues include retinoic acid (tretinoin).
No retinoid has been studied as thoroughly as this acid for improving skin turgor and smoothing wrinkles.
Retinoic acid is a biologically active form of retinol that can act on nuclear receptors and thus influence the physiological processes occurring in the skin. The acid showed its most pronounced effect in the fight against fine wrinkles, age spots, and uneven skin texture. Moreover, it begins to act faster than retinol, but at the same time has a high irritating potential.
Retinol derivatives such as retinyl acetate (Vit A-acetate) and retinyl palmitate (Vit A-palmitate) have a lower irritating potential. However, these esters have low permeability through the stratum corneum of the skin, while retinoic acid esters penetrate the dermis and have physiological effects.
Numerous clinical studies have been conducted that have shown that retinoic acid is one of the most effective drugs for treating skin with age-related changes, combating photoaging, wrinkles, and age spots. The study found that a cream with a concentration of 0.05% retinoic acid improved the condition of skin with fine and deep wrinkles.
Retinoids have been studied for more than twenty years. It has been proven that regular use of cosmetics with retinoids improves skin structure, reduces the number of wrinkles and age spots. It was concluded that retinoids are in second place in terms of effectiveness in protecting the skin from signs of aging after sunscreens. And we are talking specifically about prescription drugs with retinoic acid.
Retinoic peeling is also called yellow peeling due to the specific color of the composition - the solution is yellow. It is also called so because after the procedure in the beauty salon you will go home with a red-yellow face. And you will have to keep the composition on your face for several hours!
So, what are retina peels done for?
Benefits of retinol peeling
The benefits of retinol peeling are as follows:
- This procedure is suitable even for sensitive and problematic skin;
- This is not a complicated procedure and is completely painless;
- Short rehabilitation period - only a few days;
- Quite soft and gentle effect when compared with other peelings;
- Has a high effect - radically improves skin condition;
- Minimum side effects;
- Minimum number of contraindications;
- Relatively inexpensive;
- The most effective cosmetic procedure to combat skin aging;
- Very good at eliminating skin defects: pigmentation, swelling, wrinkles, acne;
- Improves blood flow, increases local protective functions;
- Can be performed at any time of the year, after which there are no side effects or painful sensations;
- It is an excellent alternative to more radical measures for skin rejuvenation. Such as plastic surgery.
Effect of acid in yellow peelings
Yellow peels are divided into retinol and retinoic (the latter are acid-based). It is clear that the former are milder in their effects and are easier to control, while acid can give an unpredictable reaction. What are their differences?
Retinol peels are more suitable for rejuvenating mature skin and during the first age-related changes. They can be used even on dry skin as they restore moisture balance and elasticity. Retinoics are stronger and more suitable for oily acne-prone skin.
The group of these peels gives a pronounced effect comparable to the average procedures.
- Retinoic peels are effective for hyperpigmentation. Acid reduces the appearance of persistent pigmentation. To completely remove stains, especially if they are severe, it is necessary to undergo a course of peelings. Acid accelerates the renewal of epidermal cells and activates the loss of pigment during the maturation of new cells. The face after yellow peeling is noticeably better: the spots become lighter after the first procedure, and after the course they can be completely removed. 2. Retinoic facial peeling reduces the depth of wrinkles by stimulating the production of procollagen, which is involved in the formation of collagen. Therefore, the result of yellow peeling is more elastic and dense skin. 3. Retinoic peeling at home and in a salon reduces the roughness of the skin and evens out its surface. 4. Yellow facial peeling reduces sebum production and promotes the “opening” of closed comedones. 5. Has an anti-inflammatory effect, increases the skin’s ability to fight purulent processes. 6. Stimulates the healing process of damaged skin. 7. Affects the structure of the skin, “smoothing” its inner layers. 8. Stimulates the activity of fibroblasts, which helps improve skin elasticity.
Possible consequences
Peeling of the skin is the main side effect of the retinoic peel procedure. This process should not be accelerated mechanically, you should only moisturize the skin.
Edema manifests itself as a local inflammatory reaction of the skin to external irritation. After exposure to retinoids, the permeability of the capillaries increases, the fluid coming out of them accumulates in the tissues, which is why edema forms. Swelling occurs especially often in the neck, around the eyes and other areas in people with thin skin.
Increased skin sensitivity after peeling is another side effect that must be taken into account. That is why it is not recommended to expose the skin to high and low temperatures, ultraviolet radiation and mechanical stress. Under the influence of these factors, the complication can worsen and drag on for a long time - up to 1 year.
After the procedure, darkening of areas of the skin may also be observed, which goes away after exfoliation is completed.
People with liver disease may experience skin rashes because retinoids are hepatotoxic.
Retinoic peeling has a delicate, gentle effect on the skin. If the procedure is carried out correctly, no serious complications arise.
Yellow peeling – superficial or medium exfoliation
Is yellow facial peeling superficial or medium? What is the difference between retinoic acid and exfoliants such as AHA and BHA?
This acid cannot be called only an exfoliant, since it is multifunctional. AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), such as glycolic, and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), such as salicylic, work like traditional exfoliants, targeting the epidermis (the surface layer of the skin) and the inner surface of the pores. They exfoliate and dissolve the surface layers of cells, activate regeneration processes, stimulate collagen production, and eliminate pigmentation.
Retinoic acid, as an acidic form of vitamin A, also has this effect, since it eliminates the processes of keratinization, pigmentation, makes the stratum corneum thinner (this is especially true for mature skin), and stimulates the renewal of the epidermis. In this sense, acid can be classified as an exfoliant.
However, the yellow facial peel does not exfoliate individual dead cells like AHA and BHA, but rather connected groups of such cells. Another important difference is that tretinoin has an intracellular effect, stimulating fibroblasts in the dermis, which is where the production of collagen and elastin occurs.
Thus, yellow facial peeling is not just a superficial exfoliation, but a mid-level procedure.
Medium retinoic peeling affects a deeper layer - the dermis itself, in which new cells are formed.
Therefore, the effect of yellow peeling is not only the removal of the surface layer. Thanks to the effects of retinoids, normal (non-photodamaged) cells are formed. The face after yellow peeling looks younger and refreshed. This is what distinguishes retinol peeling from AHA and BHA, which only affect the epidermis.
What peelings are suitable for acne?
The purpose of peeling is to destroy the top layer of skin and ensure the removal of inflammatory products. With the help of special substances, the dermis is subjected to a chemical burn. Once dead cells are removed, the recovery process is accelerated. The procedure increases blood circulation, the cells receive more oxygen. The advantage of this method of treatment is the absence of negative consequences in the form of post-acne.
- Superficial peeling is most often used against acne. With its help, the skin and pores are cleansed, cell respiration processes are restored, and secretion production is reduced. In this case, trauma to the epidermis is minimal.
- The middle type is used to remove scars, scars, and acne spots.
- Acid exfoliation, according to reviews from cosmetologists and clients, is a good peeling for acne, as it gently solves skin problems.
We suggest watching a video about which peelings are best for getting rid of acne:
Glycolic
Glycolic acid is gentle on the dermis, easily tolerated and highly effective in treating acne. The main action is aimed at clearing clogged sebaceous ducts. After removing dead particles, skin permeability improves, which leads to increased effectiveness of whitening products. Peeling with glycolic acid is not recommended when acne has a papulopustular form, as it causes an exacerbation of the disease.
Benefits of exfoliation with glycolic acid.
- Short recovery period.
- Low likelihood of complications.
- No discomfort during the session.
Sometimes an addictive effect is observed if you use products with glycolic acid for two months.
After exfoliation, sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation greatly increases, so it is necessary to use sunscreen compounds.
The rash sometimes gets worse after peeling. This is due to the acceleration of metabolic processes. Antibacterial care products will help reduce the risk.
Salicylic
Salicylic peeling is indicated for teenage acne. It is also prescribed to lighten pigmentation, seborrheic dermatitis, and superficial wrinkles. It is suitable for any photo type.
The molecules of the active substance penetrate the follicles, dissolve blackheads, and help remove excess sebum.
Depending on the concentration, the procedure affects the upper (15-20%) or middle (20-30%) layers of the epidermis. Salicylic exfoliation cannot remove the pronounced effects of acne in the form of scars and scars; stronger substances will be required.
Often, to soften the harsh effects of salicylic peeling, fruit acids are included in the composition.
Yellow
The drug contains several components: retinoic, phytic, kojic and azelaic acid. This complex of substances acts in many ways. But its main purpose is to combat age-related changes. In the case of acne, the condition may worsen. However, exfoliation normalizes sebum production, cleanses pores, which serves to prevent the formation of purulent rashes.
Yellow peeling exfoliates dead skin cells well, starts the regeneration process, lightens dark spots, and evens out the appearance. The procedure can be easily tolerated even by people with sensitive skin.
Ferulic
This type of peeling is considered superficial. It works very gently. In most cases, after exfoliation there are no unpleasant symptoms: severe peeling, swelling, itching.
The composition, in addition to ferulic acid, includes salicylic, malic, lactic, ascorbic and glycolic acid. The action of exfoliants is primarily aimed at combating aging. But it also regulates the production of skin secretions, cleanses pores, treats acne, and eliminates its consequences.
Acne peels based on ferulic acid require pre-treatment of the skin for 7-10 days with products containing fruit acids.
Almond
This type of exfoliation is considered the most gentle. Due to its large size, mandelic acid molecules act slowly and affect only the surface layer of the skin. Exfoliating almond peeling effectively removes dead cells, fights the manifestations and consequences of mild to moderate acne.
The almond exfoliation procedure can be performed at any time of the year. It is suitable for all skin types and different age groups.
Trauma to the dermis is minimized. In the first days, the client may experience dryness and tightness, but the problem is easily eliminated by applying a moisturizer.
Does retinol peeling thin the skin?
Many people are afraid to do retinoic peeling at home or in a beauty salon because they have heard that it thins the skin. This is true, but it does not thin the skin itself, but the superficial stratum corneum. What it is?
This is the outer layer of dead cells that thickens and dehydrates with age, causing the skin to become wrinkled, dull, and unhealthy in color. Therefore, many anti-aging procedures are aimed at removing this damaged “old” layer.
Yellow peeling at home and in a cosmetologist's office thins this layer. This stimulates the thickening of the thick layers, where collagen and elastin are produced. It is these layers that are important for youth, beauty and health of the skin. In addition, yellow peeling stimulates the production of collagen and new cells in the dermis.
FERULIC ACID
The main component of ferulic exfoliation is the acid of the same name. It got its name from the ferula plant, which can be found in Asia, southern Africa and the Mediterranean.
Also found in artichokes, apples, coffee and peanuts. Has antioxidant and antibacterial effects.
It is quite difficult to obtain ferulic acid, which explains its relative high cost (the multidirectional action partly compensates for the high cost).
In combination with vitamins E and C, this peeling prevents the formation of thymol dimers. This is a disorder in the body at the DNA level, which occurs in the epithelium due to the harmful effects of sunlight and is associated with the production of melanin.
It is melanin that causes the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, age spots or melanoma (malignant tumor). With the help of ferulic exfoliants, the causes of these ailments can be eliminated.
Composition of ferul peeling
Ferulic facial peeling may include other acids:
- Glycolic;
- Apple;
- Salicylic acid;
- Dairy;
- Ascorbic acid;
Also among the ingredients may be trace elements, vitamins, extracts of vegetables (carrots and spinach), fruits (grapes) and green tea.
Benefits of the procedure
The active ingredients of the peeling are enclosed in tiny nanocapsules with a diameter of 50 nanometers, whose structure resembles a cell membrane. Thanks to this, the drug easily penetrates the skin, and the effectiveness increases 10 times.
Ferulic peeling is considered all-season: it can be performed both in winter and summer. According to cosmetologists, this type of exfoliation is a good way to prepare the skin for the summer and reduce the negative effects of ultraviolet radiation.
Another advantage of ferul cleansing is mild peeling of the skin: in some cases it is completely absent. There's no need to wait until your vacation or long weekend to upgrade.
5 advantages of ferul peeling
- Cleansing. The drug removes dead epithelial cells, which helps refresh the complexion, get rid of rashes and fine wrinkles;
- Stimulation. Peeling enhances metabolic and regenerative processes, and also accelerates the production of collagen and elastin. This explains the lifting effect;
- Boosting immunity. Helps increase the protective properties of the epidermis and combat inflammatory reactions and bacterial infections;
- UV protection. The properties of ferulic acid are more pronounced in connection with exposure to sunlight: it protects the epidermis from photoaging and hyperpigmentation;
- Impact on the sebaceous glands. Helps get rid of hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands and normalize their work.
Indications
An important feature of peeling is its long-term effect.
Exfoliation not only quickly relieves a number of problems, but also guarantees their prevention.
Among the indications:
- Excessive oily skin;
- Dry and flaky epidermis;
- Photoaging;
- Hyperpigmentation;
- Blackheads, acne, rosacea;
- Scars that appear at the site of rashes
(post-acne); - Defects in the periorbital area, including bruises under the eyes;
- Small wrinkles.
According to experts, peeling is suitable for both young girls and women over 35-40 years old. Thanks to its prolonged effect, the procedure slows down the aging process of the skin.
Contraindications
Like other types of chemical cleansing, ferulic exfoliation is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Also, the procedure is not carried out in case of allergies to the components of the drug.
Temporary contraindications are exacerbation of chronic diseases, viral infections, including colds, as well as the presence of serious skin diseases or wounds in the treatment area.
Indications for use
- Yellow peeling is indicated as an anti-aging procedure for the first age-related changes: loss of tone, the appearance of wrinkles and folds, decreased elasticity and firmness of the facial skin. If you have started anti-aging skin care, it makes sense to consult with a cosmetologist about this procedure.
- Yellow facial peeling is one of the most effective for hyperkeratosis - thickening of the stratum corneum. As a rule, this is characteristic of mature skin.
- Photoaging and pigmentation after sun exposure are also indications for yellow retinol peeling.
- Hyperpigmentation is an increased manifestation of pigment. After retinoic peeling (a course of procedures is required), even stubborn spots are eliminated.
- Acne, uneven relief.
Since this is a chemical peel, there are contraindications. A fairly impressive list of contraindications is one of the significant disadvantages of retinol peeling.
Retinol (retinoic, yellow) peeling: before and after photos
After undergoing a procedure such as retinol peeling, before and after photographs will help you understand what effect you should expect . As you can see in the photographs, before the procedure, the relief of the face was not even, but after that, the skin was significantly leveled and the oval of the face was tightened.
You can also notice that acne has decreased significantly, and in some cases, disappeared completely. The scars left behind by acne have become barely noticeable. And my complexion has evened out significantly.
If you analyze the photographs of the faces of girls who had retinoic peeling, the before and after photos clearly illustrate that this type of peeling is one of the most effective procedures in the field of rejuvenation. Most cosmetologists advise starting the rejuvenation process with this procedure. The epidermis is cleansed, the skin becomes smooth, fresh, well-groomed.
If we consider the results of the yellow peeling procedure, the before and after photos indicate that age spots are lightened by several tones. It is also noticeable that small wrinkles around the eyes disappear almost completely, and deep ones become less noticeable. It is clearly visible that acne marks disappear or become barely noticeable.
Many cosmetologists claim that patients’ skin is evened out, renewed, smoothed and becomes clean. The effect of this procedure lasts about six months.
This procedure significantly improves the appearance of the face and slows down the aging process. Your mood improves and your self-esteem increases. Whatever you say, beauty brings a feeling of joy and happiness!
If you want to do an anti-aging procedure, but are still unsure whether to do a retinol facial peel, we advise you to read the reviews of women who have already tried it? As a rule, the reviews are positive and women recommend this procedure.
Finally, useful videos about retinol peeling for facial skin rejuvenation. They will tell you a lot of interesting and useful things.
Take precautions!
Cosmetics with retinol and yellow peeling at home should be used with caution if you have very sensitive skin with pronounced areas of redness. It is also advisable to reduce the intake of vitamin A orally during the period of peeling.
Important: remember that you need to do yellow peeling during the period of least solar activity. If you are planning to do a retinoic peeling course, then start at the end of October and finish in March - during this time you will have time to complete 3-6 procedures.
Reviews
Reviews about the procedure are in most cases positive. Patients note a good rejuvenating effect, which lasts from 2 to 4 months (depending on the characteristics of the skin and the course taken). In most cases, no spots or increased skin sensitivity were observed.
Many noted some inconvenience during the recovery period due to severe peeling of the skin, as well as pain during the procedure and during the rehabilitation period. However, the subsequent result was completely justified.
Among the negative reviews, there are isolated complaints about strong skin pigmentation, which appeared two weeks after the session (pigmented dark spots appeared on the skin). This may be due to liver disease or individual skin sensitivity.
The patient also cited the rather high cost as a disadvantage of the procedure.
Katya, 25 years old, post-acne treatment:
“I’ve had marks on my cheeks since I was a teenager, and I’ve been trying to get rid of them for several years now. My new cosmetologist recommended doing a yellow peel, and before that two acid peels with an interval of a week. I gathered my courage and went to the clinic. My face was burning mercilessly, it’s good that I thought of taking a fan with me. They saved her.
Plus, five minutes later I developed an allergy to vitamin A and became completely swollen. They told me to wash off the mask after 7 hours, so I could barely wait. What's next? The skin began to peel off after a couple of days, straight into rags, I cut them off with scissors, and smeared the cream on my face according to the instructions. I went to the store wearing a medical mask so as not to scare people. After a week, everything went away, the skin became noticeably better, the pimple marks paled (if compared with the previous state, then by about a third).
Of course, my “marks” have not disappeared anywhere, but my appearance has become better. Can I recommend it? It will probably be beneficial for older women. To remove wrinkles. I definitely won’t be doing it anytime soon.” Victoria, 42 years old, skin rejuvenation:
“I was about to do fractional laser thermolysis, but a friend dissuaded me. It had a lot of side effects, so I decided not to risk it. Yes, and I read that retinoic peeling is more suitable for combating my problems (wrinkles and hyperpigmentation). And it costs less.
I won’t describe the procedure itself, I’ll say what happened after. My face was peeling and tingling when I washed my face and when applying cream. On the fifth day, a small rash appeared, apparently there were some problems in the body. Plus conjunctivitis - in the morning I could barely open my eyes.
What is the result: the skin is lighter, smoother to the touch, spots are whitened. If we put aside all the side effects, then I am satisfied. The appearance is the same as before with foundation.”
Natalia, 36 years old, pigmentation:
“I completed a course of retinoic peels last winter. The cosmetologist in the salon performed some tricky manipulations on the face (about an hour in time), then applied a mask and sent me home with instructions to wash off this beauty after 10 hours.
Among the inconveniences: I had to sit at home for a whole week because the skin was hanging in flakes. For those who work in an office, this can be a problem. Plus, the sensitivity increased, so much so that I had to re-select all my skincare products. The usual cream gave me a rash, and the tonic gave me itching.
But, in principle, the result was worth it. Pigment “islands” disappeared completely, and the skin became more even. I will repeat if necessary.”
What happens after the procedure
As we have already said, the procedure gives an effect comparable to the average effect. Therefore, after retinoic peeling there will be redness, a feeling of dryness of the face, itching, swelling, and the temperature may even rise. This condition can be observed for 3 days, severe peeling will last on average 4-8 days.
A specific feature of the procedure: after retinoic peeling, you will notice that all the impurities and blackheads sitting in the pores will come to the surface. This is due to the fact that the procedure removes the top layer of the epidermis, revealing all these impurities.
Therefore, if you notice that there are more clogged pores on your face, do not rush to quit the course - it is better to sign up for facial cleansing when the peeling goes away.
Yellow peeling as a procedure for rapid rejuvenation and treatment of acne is suitable for both men and women.
Features of skin restoration after yellow peeling
Let's look at what experts recommend to do after cleansing your face with retinoic acid.
How to care for your face after peeling?
The specialist should suggest what to apply to the face during rehabilitation after peeling is best for a particular woman. A red face, itching and peeling are normal, these phenomena will gradually pass, the feeling of tightness may persist for about 4 days.
To quickly bring the skin back to normal, you need proper post-peeling care, including special masks and creams with strong moisturizing potential. What cream to use after retinoic peeling - a specialist who performs facial cleansing will tell you about this. If there is slight swelling and redness, then do not worry, all this will go away in a few days. When there is no peeling after the very first session, this is also normal.
Side effects of retinoic peeling
Care after the procedure may be complicated by some ailments. One of the possible problems is herpes; it can be treated by taking antiviral medications. Also, sometimes allergies are a concern - the so-called retinoic dermatitis after peeling, in which case it is necessary to carry out appropriate treatment under the supervision of a specialist. In some cases, a rash is visible after cleansing the face; it may indicate a violation of liver function; in the preparatory stage, you can use hepatoprotectors to protect yourself from this negative phenomenon.
Some women also note excessive skin sensitivity among the side effects. The face can return to normal within 12 months. Many negative effects disappear if you choose the right anti-inflammatory drugs.
As a rule, after 3 or 4 days the characteristic peeling begins; in fact, this unpleasant process can be accelerated by applying masks containing antihistamine and antiviral ingredients, lactic acid, cranberry enzymes.
What should you not do after peeling?
On no day should you remove peeling crusts from your face yourself; they must come off naturally, otherwise scars may appear and the regeneration of the epidermis will not be complete.
The performer of the procedure must warn that within 2 weeks after cleansing it is harmful to use cosmetics with AHA acids and retinoids. While the peeling course is in progress, no other cosmetic procedures are needed.
Non-aggressive agents based on surfactants are allowed only from the second day. You cannot use harsh products for washing; only those made on the basis of water or gel are suitable.
Trips to the bathhouse and sauna will have to be postponed, as thermal procedures can increase swelling.
Swimming in the pool can contribute to the spread of infection. For a while you will have to refrain from activities that make you sweat so that ulcers do not appear. To protect against pigmentation, you should not sunbathe, bask in a solarium, or conduct UV irradiation. Retinoic peeling: photo of the face before and after the procedure
Pre-peeling preparation
Many people cannot do yellow peeling because it causes pain: some people feel as if their face is on fire. Indeed, the procedure can be painful, so it is better to undergo pre-peel preparation.
The yellow peeling procedure will be more comfortable and less painful if before the course you prepare the skin with almond or glycolic peels - they are softer and more gentle. Another option is to use cosmetics for three weeks, such as creams with retinoic acid, or preparations with AHA acids, which weaken the intercellular bonds in the epidermis.
Contraindications
- Individual intolerance and allergic reactions;
- Inflammatory skin diseases - eczema, seborrheic dermatitis;
- The presence of damage to the skin - wounds, scratches, burns;
- Fresh tan;
- Herpes infection;
- The presence of warts (retinoids can provoke the spread of papillomavirus);
- Photosensitivity – high sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation;
- Liver pathologies, including hepatitis;
- Diseases of the respiratory system;
- Severe diseases of the circulatory system;
- Diseases caused by mites (Demodex);
- Taking retinoids;
- The period of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Retinoids have a pronounced toxic effect on the embryo. Therefore, peeling is prohibited not only during pregnancy, but also when planning a pregnancy in the coming year.
A relative contraindication is taking certain medications. For example, after treatment with Roaccutane, the yellow peeling procedure is allowed to be performed no earlier than six months later. When treated with antibacterial agents, the procedure can be carried out at least two weeks later.
Procedure at home
A question that interests many: is it possible to do retinoic peeling at home? The peeling we are discussing is classified as medium. In addition, acid can give an unpredictable reaction, so it is better to carry out the procedure not at home, but under the supervision of a cosmetologist.
Since retinol peeling has contraindications, the doctor at the first consultation examines the skin, notes its type, the presence of inflammation, pigmentation, and signs of photoaging. The cosmetologist collects all the necessary data: whether the patient has ever taken medications with retinol, what reaction was observed, how sensitive the skin is, how often allergic reactions occur. Afterwards, a decision is made on whether peeling with retinol can be done.
Therefore, retinoic peeling at home is not recommended. If you have already done this procedure and know how your skin reacts to it, then Medvyan’s home care magazine will show you the recipe.
How is retinoic peeling done in a salon?
The cost of the procedure may vary in different salons, depending on the status of the establishment and the drugs used. We recommend that you immediately estimate how much a full course of facial cleansing will cost.
Preparing for retinoic peeling
Before performing a glycolic or retinol peel, a specialist will conduct a detailed survey and assess the condition of the skin. You should not resort to this procedure without consultation, since due to ignorance of many important details, dangerous complications may arise after peeling.
Usually, a specialist suggests taking hepatoprotectors before the peeling course and throughout its duration. It is known that women with normal skin prepare for peeling for at least 2 weeks, and those with dark skin type take about a month. To improve the facial cleansing procedure, various medications are prescribed, for example:
- agents classified as “tyrosinase inhibitors” reduce the likelihood of hyperpigmentation after an inflammatory process;
- products enriched with AHA acids help soften the skin surface and maximize the opening of pores, facilitating the upcoming impregnation with a retinol cleanser;
- applying cosmetic products that include retinoids increases the effectiveness of facial cleansing.
The best option is to treat the skin with cleansers based on glycolic acid (one of the types of AHA acids) for about 10 days. Glycolic acid works best at a concentration of 4-20%.
Retinoic peeling procedure
Only specialists know how to do peelings correctly so as not to harm the skin, but rather to rejuvenate and cleanse it. The process itself lasts about half an hour. First, up to ten layers of the active product are applied, the composition of which is selected strictly on an individual basis. Reviews say that there is no discomfort when the cleansing mask is on the face, and the burning sensation is moderate. Most clients are suitable for a mixture containing 5-10% retinoic acid. How long to keep the mask on your face will differ for each case; the time can vary from 10 to 25 minutes. Every master knows how to wash off the cleaning composition. It is also important to apply good sunscreen cosmetics after the procedure.
How often can you do a retinoic peel?
As you already understood, yellow peeling can be carried out in two variations, depending on this the frequency of procedures and other course frameworks will vary:
- gentle peelings based on natural retinol act especially gently, cleansing the surface of the skin, but sometimes give a weak effect - this procedure can be used monthly without preparing the skin;
- standard peelings with synthetic retinoic acid act more powerfully, like a high-quality medium peeling - this procedure is recommended to be carried out 2-4 times a year, the intervals between sessions should be about 2 weeks, we also note that the preparatory stage is required - 10 days.
Without an individual consultation, it is impossible to say how many chemical peeling procedures will be needed to achieve the best result without harm to health and beauty, so it is always better to trust facial cleansing to experts.
It is known that in cosmetology there is a two-day version of peeling with retinol, when the solution is applied several times for 4 hours.
Peeling
As already mentioned, the basis of this radical cleansing is the natural effect of retinoic acid (one of the forms of vitamin A). And its indications for cosmetic use are extensive:
- acne of various localizations;
- age spots;
- removal of small stretch marks that form wrinkles.
The active component of such a peel can be purchased - absolutely without difficulty - at a regular pharmacy. But for effective use, retinoic acid should be mixed with pharmaceutical salicylic acid (formula 1:1). This combination is indicated for increased oily skin and acne.
We get a yellow mask, as shown in the photo.
Lightly blot the skin with the freshly prepared solution (using a special cosmetic brush). Leave for 20 minutes - the mixture should reach (dry) to a thin film. And it (this film) will need to be “detained” on the face for 7 (!!!) hours.
Attention: the yellow mass can burn, depending on your pain threshold, the pain may be severe.
After the allotted time, wash off the composition from your face. You can purchase a special soothing cream after peeling, and also lubricate your skin with panthenol.
On the second day after the procedure, intense peeling may begin, but it usually begins on the third day. Do not peel off the peelings under any circumstances, otherwise you will damage the skin! Intense peeling usually lasts from 3 to 8 days after the procedure.
Tip: to speed up the healing of the skin, you can lubricate it daily with creams containing panthenol. If you go outside during the day, be sure to use a cream with SPF protection.
The standard peeling course is 4 procedures with an interval of 1 month.
After this peeling procedure, there is no need to use preparations (cosmetic) containing vitamin A for 2 weeks.
Carrying out the procedure
The first thing you need to do is cleanse your face of decorative cosmetics. Immediately after this, the skin is treated with a solution consisting of salicylic and glycolic acids. This helps remove dead cells. As soon as the solution begins to interact with the skin, it is cleansed. During this, the client may feel a slight burning sensation, which will go away in just 4-7 minutes.
The next step is to apply the composition to the face. This mask can be kept on from 15 minutes to as long as 12 hours. The holding time is determined based on the desired result. After this, the product is thoroughly washed off under running water, and then a protective cream is applied to the skin and evenly distributed.
