How the Palomar laser works
If we compare laser rejuvenation methods, it is quite logical to be guided by several criteria - how effective is this procedure, is it safe and does it cause discomfort? The Palomar laser meets all these criteria.
The technique was created and first tested in the USA in 2001, after which it began to be successfully used throughout the world. The operating principle of the Palomar laser is based on the fact that the skin is exposed to different impulses (long and short), as well as their combination. With a short pulse of laser radiation, the effect of ablation (tissue rejection) is achieved, and with a long pulse, the effect of coagulation (mainly of protein) is achieved.

The Palomar laser is capable of penetrating the skin up to only 1.0-1.2 mm, carrying out a fractional effect not on the dermis (deep layers of the skin), but on its surface layer. This allows the technology to be used for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes.
During the session, laser microbeams of a high degree of efficiency and density are applied to the skin, under the influence of which mechanisms for enhanced production of elastin and collagen are launched in the epidermis. The technique is gentle, does not require anesthesia and does not lead to severe pain.
Palomar or Fraxel differences:
1. The main difference between the two devices is that Fraxel is the first device designed specifically for the professional procedure of non-ablative fractional photothermolysis, which implements unique patented technological solutions.
Palomar is a combine device that combines more than 10 techniques, including equipment for non-ablative fractional photothermolysis. If you are faced with choosing which device is most suitable for your type of business - Palomar or Fraxel, we recommend paying attention to the number of rooms for hardware cosmetology in your clinic. If it is one office, the combine will fit perfectly into this type of business, which is very common in the West, because you will be able to offer several services to your clients, saving on space. If your clinic has two or more rooms, it is more advisable to equip it with professional mono-devices: firstly, they are always superior to combines in quality and service life, and secondly, your cosmetologists will be able to receive several clients at the same time, thereby increasing your income and significantly reducing the payback period of the equipment.
2. An important difference between these devices is the technological solutions that introduce significant differences in efficiency and convenience for the doctor and the patient into one technique - non-ablative fractional photothermolysis. The Palomar device uses the classic stamp technique, implemented in many other laser devices in the lower price segment. This technology is simple, but it is quite difficult to achieve uniform distribution of microthermal treatment zones (MTZs).
The Fraxel device uses a patented technology for distributing energy in motion IOTS, which allows you to apply MLZ evenly, like an artist’s brush, is very easy to perform for the doctor and reduces the procedure to 20 minutes (face area). In addition, IOTS technology optimizes the diameter of the laser beam, which allows for maximum penetration into the skin and greatly increases the result.

How is the laser rejuvenation procedure performed?
Before the procedure, you must remove all makeup, dust, dirt and sebum from your face. Anesthesia with creams is not used, since the Palomar rejuvenation technique is distinguished by its softness (the presence of a contact cooling system).
The duration of the procedure is only 30-50 minutes. Immediately after the session, the skin turns red and swells slightly, but all these unpleasant sensations disappear after a few days. Redness in the area of stretch marks lasts a little longer (7-10 days), but the effect of smoothing the relief of the skin becomes visible after 2-3 days.
For a full course, 2-4 sessions are usually enough, which are carried out once every 3-4 weeks. During this time, the skin has time to produce a sufficient amount of collagen fibers for the result to become noticeable. For deep wrinkles and scar changes, it is necessary to receive at least 6-8 procedures.
Indications for fractional non-ablative rejuvenation
The technique is used to solve a number of problems:
- elimination of wrinkles of various etiologies and severity;
- rejuvenation of the skin of the hands, face, neck, décolleté;
- improvement of skin texture;
- increasing its elasticity;
- correction of gravitational ptosis.
Why is laser rejuvenation effective?
Thanks to the narrowly targeted action of the laser beam on the problem area, the deep layers of the skin are heated. Individually calculated device power indicators allow you to safely and effectively stimulate cell division and renewal, as well as the synthesis of collagen and elastin (powerful catalysts for the rejuvenation process). This technique allows you to achieve not only quick, but also natural for the body elimination of various cosmetic defects, increasing skin tone and elasticity.
How is fractional rejuvenation performed?
The procedure is carried out using a high-tech American laser device Palomar. Rejuvenation is preceded by skin cleansing. The use of local anesthesia is not required, since the Palomar Icon device is equipped with a special contact cooling system, which makes the procedure absolutely painless.
In total, the procedure takes no more than 50 minutes. Immediately after the session, slight redness and swelling of the skin may be observed. These symptoms are a normal reaction to exposure. As a rule, they disappear within 2-3 days.
For a full course of rejuvenation, depending on the age and condition of the client’s skin, a different number of procedures may be required. On average, 3-5 sessions are prescribed, the intervals between which are 4 weeks.
During the period of skin restoration, it is necessary to protect it from sunlight and other negative external influences. For this, the doctor will recommend special cosmetics.
What results can you expect?
With the Palomar device, fractional rejuvenation gives a noticeable effect after the first session: after 2-3 days, when swelling and redness disappear, you will be able to observe an increase in skin elasticity and the smoothing of fine wrinkles. Since the procedure activates natural regeneration mechanisms, its effect is cumulative: it reaches its maximum several weeks after the final session of the course. The result, comparable to plastic surgery, will last for about 3-5 years!
Is the procedure safe?
Scientific research data and experience in using the technique confirm the absence of negative effects on the body. Thanks to the possibility of targeted treatment of problem areas, the impact on neighboring tissues is eliminated. In addition, the procedure does not cause discomfort, which means it does not require anesthesia: a special cooling system eliminates the risk of skin trauma. Thanks to these properties of non-ablative rejuvenation, beauty restoration is quick, painless and safe.
Benefits of using the 1540 attachment for the Palomar Icon laser
- Comfort. The contact cooling system makes it comfortable for the patient to work even on areas with thin skin (for example, around the eyes).
- Highest efficiency. It allows you to see a noticeable result after the first session.
- Speed of implementation. The procedure does not require preliminary anesthesia, thereby reducing the session time. Having entered the specialist’s office, the client can be sure that within an hour he will be able to return to his daily activities.
- Minimal recovery period. Swelling, as well as slight redness after exposure in most cases disappear within 3 days.
What results can you expect?
With Palomar laser rejuvenation, results can be achieved in a short period of time (5-7 days), and the procedure itself is indicated for:
- The presence of a network of wrinkles around the eyes.
- Dull complexion and the presence of acne scars.
- Gravity prose (sagging skin), deep nasolabial folds and folds on the forehead.
- Scars and cicatricial changes in the skin.
- Signs of photoaging.
- Presence of age spots and melasma (spots after pregnancy).
- The presence of loose skin on the face, décolleté and neck area.
- Vascular network of small capillaries.
It should be noted that this technology can be used from the age of 25, since it is from this age that age-related skin changes begin. The later a woman begins to monitor her appearance, the more sessions she has to receive to achieve results. Usually, at the age of 40-45, 3-4 procedures are enough to maintain the effect for several years.
The same is with stretch marks - to remove fresh scars (2-3 years old) it will take only 2-3 sessions, but to remove old scars it may take more than 5-6 procedures.
What is non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation and how does it work?
Non-ablative laser rejuvenation is skin rejuvenation using laser energy without damaging the skin.
In this case, laser energy turns into thermal energy. The controlled thermal effect stimulates the extracellular matrix and initiates the process of collagen formation.
By interacting with water molecules contained in skin cells, radiation has a tonic and restorative effect on the skin and starts the process of its rejuvenation.
The water content in the epidermis is approximately 10-15%, in the deep layers of the skin it is much higher - 70-75%. Due to this, during the non-ablative laser rejuvenation procedure, the impact of the beam on the epidermis is minimal.
Passing through the manipulator, the laser beam is divided into microbeams in the form of a grid and forms closed coagulation columns in the deep layers of the skin, located at an equal distance from each other. During the session, skin cells located around the columns are exposed to heat, which activates metabolism and promotes cell rejuvenation. Old cells are destroyed and replaced with new ones, resulting in a lifting effect . The skin gains elasticity, an even tone, and looks younger.
Benefits of the Palomar rejuvenation method
- The procedure is highly effective, and the result is noticeable after the first session.
- No anesthesia is required, laser irradiation does not cause significant pain, and the skin is cooled thanks to the contact cooling system.
- High degree of safety and minimum complications after the procedure.
- Minimum rehabilitation period (maximum 3-4 days), during which redness and swelling disappear.
- The rejuvenation effect increases as cells are restored.
- A result that is achieved thanks to the reserve forces of the body and the ability of cells to self-heal.
- Effective and at the same time gentle effect on areas with thin skin and a high degree of mobility (around the eyes, décolleté, breasts, etc.)
