What it is
Oily skin occurs as a result of increased production of sebaceous glands. This process can be observed not only on the face, but also on other parts of the body. But the area that suffers most is the nose.
Oily skin is characterized by enlarged pores, blackheads, and an unhealthy shine. But at the same time, this is one of the four types of dermis that is not considered a disease; it is a normal condition. However, it is accompanied by unpleasant phenomena in the form of pimples, blackheads, seborrhea, and sebaceous gland cysts.
Characteristics of oily and combination skin
Localization
Often, oily skin is most noticeable on certain areas of the face: the forehead, nose and chin. And also on the body: back and chest. The combination or oily type in most cases also manifests itself as oily scalp.
Appearance
Oily skin does not look very aesthetically pleasing: rough, thickened, covered with liquid fat, shiny, uneven and unkempt, has a gray or even dull color. You can compare this look with an orange peel, because the pores stand out quite well and even with good care they shine. If there is no care, it becomes dirty, blackheads and comedones appear more often on the face. Seborrhea and thaleangiectasia may occur.
But, despite all these disadvantages, oily skin has its small advantages: it does not age as quickly, wrinkles appear more slowly, and the skin remains elastic longer.
Causes
Oily facial skin and acne can be caused by the following reasons:
- increased testosterone levels. Teenagers often encounter this phenomenon during a period when hormonal changes occur in the body. Usually this problem goes away on its own by the age of 25;
- hereditary tendency. This phenomenon manifests itself from birth and remains for life. In these cases, only constant and proper care can help;
- incorrect diet. With frequent consumption of too fatty, sweet foods, fast food, the skin becomes very oily, acne and pimples appear on it. For this reason, many nutritionists recommend regularly eating buckwheat porridge, cottage cheese, kefir, and vegetables;
- disturbances in the functioning of internal organs. Diseases in the pancreas, intestines, and thyroid gland can cause serious problems with the skin of the face. In these cases, it is worth undergoing a full examination and treating these organs;
- frequent use of peeling. After a girl attends facial cleansing procedures, a positive result immediately becomes noticeable. For this reason, many begin to visit a cosmetologist frequently, and this leads to the appearance of unpleasant lesions on the skin and also provokes an oily sheen.
On the nose
Often, shine on the nose appears due to increased activity of the sebaceous glands in this area. They cover almost the entire body, with the exception of the palms and feet. But in the T-zone their number reaches its maximum level.
It is imperative to know what factors provoke these phenomena in this zone:
- problems in the endocrine system;
- improper process of self-cleansing of the skin;
- neglect of caring procedures;
- manifestations of dysbacteriosis;
- problems with the functioning of the digestive system;
- puberty;
- hormonal imbalance;
- increased level of accumulation of toxins, waste, harmful substances;
- vitamin deficiency or, conversely, high content of one of the vitamins;
- hereditary predisposition.
White
White pimples are formed as a result of increased accumulation of fatty secretions in the duct of the sebaceous glands. This process usually occurs against the background of clogged pores.
Over time, dust and dirt are attracted to the area with the plug. Next, the process of active development of bacteria under the skin begins, a nodule is formed, which manifests itself in the form of a white pimple.
White pimples can be caused by the following reasons:
- hormonal imbalances;
- incorrect and unbalanced diet;
- non-compliance with regular skin care or its complete absence;
- use of low-quality cosmetics;
- problems with the digestive system;
- insufficient level of zinc in the body. This causes increased secretion of the sebaceous glands and the formation of subcutaneous white pimples;
- long-term use of iodine and bromine;
- use of medications that contain steroid hormones;
- violation of metabolic processes;
- increased stress, nervous shock;
- gynecological pathologies.
Reds
Oily face and red pimples are related conditions.
These phenomena are provoked by similar factors:
- hormonal disorder;
- bad habits;
- disruption of the stomach;
- increased consumption of fatty, spicy and sweet foods;
- stressful situations;
- improper functioning of the sebaceous glands;
- contaminated pores.

If you have an oily face and acne, you can use homemade masks. The preparation of these products is quite simple; you can use components that almost everyone has at home.
Their use will remove oily shine, they improve complexion, eliminate acne, pimples, and also narrow pores.
Let's look at several recipes for effective masks for oily skin and against acne:
- from yeast. for preparation you will need 10 grams of yeast, 3 large spoons of kefir, 1 teaspoon of berry juice or plantain leaves. All components should be mixed until smooth. Apply to areas with lesions and clogged pores. Everything is removed after 15 minutes and rinsed with warm water;

How to get rid of acne
This question concerns most girls and boys from 13 to 20 years old, and sometimes even at an older age. In the hope of getting rid of this problem as quickly as possible, young people buy up all the advertised acne remedies, and also literally try various folk methods on their own skin. However, at best there is only a temporary improvement, and often it gets even worse.
On YouTube, I have more than once come across videos and TV shows that recommend some medieval methods for fighting acne on your own: steaming the face, masks made from a mixture of laundry soap and onions, scrubs made from salt and oatmeal.
The fact that such methods have been time-tested and proven ineffective is not so bad. The real problem is that many of them can significantly worsen the course of acne.
This is what prompted me to create my own series of issues dedicated to this problem. And today I will tell you about the causes of acne, what you should not do if you have acne, and about the achievements of modern cosmetology, which you can independently use to treat acne at home.
First, I have two news for you - good and bad.
The bad news is that, according to statistics, about 90% of young people - both girls and boys - suffer from acne to one degree or another, and unfortunately, today there is no remedy that would help get rid of acne once and for all. exists.
The good news is that in 80% of cases, spontaneous remission (that is, a temporary lull in acne) or complete self-healing occurs over time. And modern cosmetology has means that help reduce the appearance of acne and significantly prevent the appearance of new ones.
Treatment with pharmaceuticals
An oily face and acne can be treated with the help of pharmaceutical products, which are provided in a wide range.
Before using them, you should consult with a dermatologist and cosmetologist; a specialist will be able to choose the right drug and prescribe a regimen for its use.
The use of pharmaceutical products is resorted to in advanced cases, when severe inflammation and a large number of pimples and acne are observed on the surface of the skin. Your doctor may recommend using stronger medications.
Dermatologists recommend using the following pharmaceutical products to treat severe inflammation of the facial skin:
- the use of injections with corticosteroids. If there is excessive oily skin, which is additionally accompanied by extensive inflammation and acne, then in these cases special injections can help. Corticosteroids help quickly relieve inflammation and restore skin cells.
- Isotretinoin. This remedy should be used only in advanced cases when other remedies have failed to help. Taken twice a day for one and a half years;
- antibiotics. If, in addition to an oily face, pimples and acne are observed, then doctors may recommend the use of antibiotics. They prevent inflammation and quickly restore the skin. Effective antibiotics for acne include Erythromycin and Tetracyclines.
Folk remedies
If you don’t want to use medications, then you can resort to traditional medicine. Natural products will not only eliminate oily skin and acne, but will also make your face fresh and toned.
Among the folk remedies, the following are especially effective:
- tea mushroom. First you need to prepare it. Then it is infused for 10 days. After this, make a paste from the mushroom and apply it to the surface of the face except for the eyelids and lip area. Eliminates oiliness, acne, has a cleansing and toning effect;
- lemon balm lotion. For preparation you will need vodka and lemon balm. These components are mixed in a ratio of 5:1. Next, it is infused for 5 days and then diluted with water. Regular use of the lotion will quickly eliminate pimples, blackheads, and also make the skin fresh and tightened;
- parsley decoction. It is recommended to brew fresh or dry parsley leaves. You should regularly wash your face with the prepared decoction.
How to treat acne and inflammation?
A simple and effective remedy for acne is 100% tea tree essential oil. With it you can:
- quickly remove existing rashes on the face (without the formation of scars);
- prevent the appearance of new boils;
- remove redness.
The oil is applied pointwise (with a cotton swab) only to acne, after cleansing the face, until the product is completely absorbed. In addition, 1-2 drops of oil can be added to masks or water for making ice.
Doctors advise treating acne with ready-made pharmaceutical preparations (local antibiotics in the form of gels and ointments). For severe rashes, medications for oral (internal) administration are prescribed:
- antibiotics (to inhibit bacteria from the inside, quickly eliminate the inflammatory process);
- isotretinoin (to reduce the number and size of acne).
Subcutaneous injections of corticosteroids are prescribed when a cyst has formed at the site of the pimple. Girls and women, after consultation with a gynecologist, can be prescribed contraceptives that have a combined effect.
In addition to the main task - preventing unwanted pregnancy - they also perform an auxiliary function, reducing the production of sebum.
Fresh, recently appeared pimples can be removed by rubbing the affected areas of the skin with a slice of fresh lemon several times a day.
With this we say goodbye to you, dear subscribers! We hope that with the help of this article, your face will become fresh and healthy, and you will be able to forget about acne forever! See you again on the pages of our blog!
Errors in care
When caring for oily skin with acne, many people often make the following mistakes:
- use of formulations containing alcohol;
- abuse of deep cleansing of the facial skin, which is accompanied by the use of scrubs with large particles;
- use of strong agents;
- frequent squeezing of acne;
- using the wrong cosmetics that do not match your skin type;
- water procedures with hot water.
Step-by-step care for oily skin
Proper care for oily skin begins with cleansing and looks like this:
- Washing using special gels or other products. It is better to take warm water (under no circumstances hot!), and at the end rinse your face with cool water. You can finish washing by wiping your skin with a piece of ice. To prepare it, it is better to use herbal decoctions or mineral water. But ice should not be used if you are prone to rosacea;
- Next, wipe the face with lotion or tonic. This gets rid of any remaining dirt and detergent;
- The next step is applying moisturizer. Oily facial skin also needs moisturizing just like dry skin. But you should choose the appropriate cream - light, with a minimum amount of ingredients that provoke the production of sebum;
- If there are pimples or inflammations, they should be treated with separate products.
- Now you can apply makeup. It is better to choose mineral cosmetics - they slightly dry out the skin;
- During the day, you should use special mattifying wipes if an oily sheen appears.
- In the evening, be sure to remove all makeup from your face. Then wash with gel or caring foam;
- After wiping your face with lotion, apply night cream.
This concludes the step-by-step care for oily skin. These are everyday actions, but care will not be complete without additional activities.
What to choose for oily skin – scrub or peeling?
Additionally, the skin is cleansed using a scrub or peeling. You can buy ready-made products or make them yourself. Both work effectively, but you should know that peeling cannot be used from mid-spring to mid-autumn to avoid the appearance of age spots. At this time, it’s better to stick to a scrub, but in winter it’s time for peeling. In any case, caring for problematic oily skin without them will be incomplete.
Superficial peeling can be used independently at home, but medium and deep peeling should only be applied by a cosmetologist. You can do it no more than 2 times a week. Fermented milk products, citrus zest and juice, oatmeal, soda, and honey are used as peeling.
Important! Peeling should not be used if there are rashes on the face. This can make the problem worse. Before use, be sure to test for an allergic reaction. The product should be spread on the inside of the wrist or elbow. If no manifestations of allergies (rash, burning) are observed, the product can be used.
Crabs perfectly cleanse and massage the skin of the face, but they also cannot be used for inflammation. Ground peels of nuts or apricot kernels, sea salt and other components are used as a scrubbing agent. The scrub is applied to damp skin, the face is massaged, and then the product is washed off with warm water. Apply 1-2 times a week.
The best masks for oily skin
The goal of applying masks is simple - moisturizing, cleansing and tightening enlarged pores. Of the purchased options, a film mask is best suited. It is applied to the skin, it hardens and is removed in the form of a film. Alginate masks are also good. When purchasing such a product, you should definitely clarify the composition and what type of skin it is intended for. But masks can and should be made at home. Compositions based on blue or green clay are ideal. It is diluted with warm water to the consistency of sour cream and other ingredients are added. This could be honey, fruit pulp, essential oils, and so on. There should be no cosmetics.
Tonics and antibacterial agents against acne
You need to buy products that are necessarily labeled “antibacterial”; others do not work on acne. It’s good if the composition contains zinc or salicylic acid. They complement daily care for oily skin, dry it out and get rid of pimples and blackheads. Homemade options also help in combating problems. Most often, they take herbs that have an anti-inflammatory and astringent effect (chamomile, parsley, celandine) and fill them with vodka or alcohol. The mixture is infused for several days, then it is filtered and a few drops of essential oil are added. Tea tree, rosemary, and citrus fruits work well.
Advice! You can also add essential oils to ice cubes to rub the skin. This will only increase the effect.
Which cream is suitable for oily skin type?
The cream should be very light and moisturizing. We need a day and night option. Sometimes, instead of a cream, you can apply a non-comedogenic oil such as jojoba or grape seed. Its remnants must be removed with a cotton pad. For facial skin care after 30 years, gel is more suitable. It is easier on the skin and penetrates deeper. It’s nice if it’s labeled “antibacterial.” You should choose a cream that suits your age; you should not buy creams for a more mature period just because they are stronger. The skin will get used to them and then stop reacting.
At the age of 20, caring for oily skin should first of all be correct, and not too intense. There is no point in applying “everything at once.” You can limit yourself to high-quality cleansing and masks. The cream is only needed for young skin. Winter skin care is also different. During this period, it becomes drier, so it is better to use a cream that protects the skin from frost, and leave a regular moisturizer until spring.
Nutrition
Nutrition plays a special role; the condition of the skin depends on it. If it is incorrect, it will immediately have a negative impact on the face.
Be sure to remove the following foods from your diet:
- fast food;
- fried potatoes;
- sweets;
- highly fatty foods;
- salty and spicy dishes;

But products from the following list must be present on the menu:
- milk products;
- fresh fruits and vegetables;
- Every day you need to eat up to 30 grams of nuts;
- protein foods - chicken eggs, meat, fish, poultry;
