Very dry scalp: what to do if an adult’s hair is flaking and falling out - how to treat itching and dryness after washing

Causes of excessive dry scalp

First you need to find out the reason that led to this condition. More often it becomes due to aggressive styling and poor choice of care products.

Below are the most common factors:

  • aggressive blow-drying, styling with a curling iron;
  • poor-quality shampoo or conditioner chosen incorrectly for your skin type;
  • hormone imbalance (increased acne, menstrual irregularities and brittle nails may also occur);
  • lack of vitamins;
  • fungi that affect the epidermis and cause itching and hair loss;
  • dehydration (you need to drink 1-2 liters of water daily);
  • smoking and alcohol abuse disrupt the functioning of blood vessels, which is why the skin does not receive the required nutrition;
  • failure of the endocrine system, when the body's metabolism is disrupted;
  • pregnancy, during which a deficiency of nutrients may occur.

Reasons (8 factors)

Before taking measures to get rid of very dry scalp, it is worth identifying the reasons that contribute to its formation.

The main factors affecting the skin include:

  1. Use when drying curling irons, hair dryers and other means. When exposed to heat from such objects, the skin dries and peels.
  2. Incorrectly selected cosmetics for scalp care. The use of shampoos or products in the form of masks and balms can give a negative reaction if they were chosen incorrectly.
  3. Hormonal changes and problems. Along with dry skin, in such cases other problems may appear, such as acne and problems with the nail plate.
  4. Poor nutrition. With insufficient intake of vitamins and a lack of essential substances in the body, the integrity of the skin is destroyed.
  5. Fungal disease. Promotes severe drying of the skin. Subsequently it even leads to hair loss.
  6. Drinking insufficient water. Such factors lead to dehydration of the epidermis, after which the skin may acquire a gray tint and peeling occurs. In this case, there is often dry skin on the face.
  7. Having bad habits. Any such factors contribute to the deterioration of blood vessels, which subsequently leads to malnutrition of the scalp.
  8. Pregnancy. The beneficial substances in the mother’s body are used to feed the baby, thus, their deficiency occurs in the woman’s body.

When dry epidermis is detected, it is best to immediately moisturize the skin, nourish it and help eliminate the unfavorable factors that led to such results.

At the same time, we should not forget that the appearance of symptoms of dryness can be a consequence of diseases; skin pathologies should not be ruled out. If you can’t cope with the problem for a long time, try going to the doctor.

Symptoms

With age, collagen fibers cease to be elastic, and there is a lack of moisture in the cells. Under the influence of these factors, the skin becomes defenseless from an aggressive environment. This causes burning and discomfort.

Dry skin can be identified by its characteristic symptoms:

  • peeling of epidermal scales;
  • tightness, burning;
  • hair fragility, dull color, increased hair loss;
  • electrification of hair from a comb;
  • tingling, discomfort.

Or maybe you have a skin disease (3 pathologies)

As you already understand, dry skin can be a symptom of a skin disease. It could be:

  1. Seborrhea is dry. In this case, scales on the hair are visible, the hair becomes brittle, and it seems as if the hair has been powdered. In addition, the head (even the face) itches.
  2. Atopic dermatitis. With this chronic pathology, itching is also present, red spots can be seen on the skin, which after some time turn into wounds.
  3. Psoriasis. Initially, the patient feels dryness of the skin surface, after which one can notice the formation of pink tubercles, on the surface of which white scales appear. Such formations are called psoriatic plaques. When a person tries to remove these scales, blood droplets will be visible. Such symptoms can be noticed in the knees, elbows, and lower back.

If you notice such signs in yourself, do not hesitate and go to the doctor. A dermatologist can help.

How to distinguish dry scalp from skin diseases

Dry scalp and itching (a dermatologist will tell you what to do and how to identify skin diseases) is a common phenomenon. The cause of itching can be serious rashes (seborrhea, psoriasis or dermatitis). Their symptoms are very similar, especially in the initial stages.

Later, it is easy to distinguish dry skin from a specific disease - you need to pay attention to the following factors:

DiseaseSymptoms
seborrheaexcessive fragility of hair, dandruff progressing day by day, dryness observed on the face and throughout the body
oily seborrheaTo the listed factors, inflammation of the sebaceous glands is added, as well as layering of dandruff flakes on top of each other
psoriasispink tubercles with a white cap (plaques) appear; when they are removed, blood appears, and new plaques appear in the same place. Lumps appear on other parts of the body: lower back, knees and elbows
dermatitisaccompanied by severe itching, red spots and weeping wounds appear at the site of scratching

If the itching is accompanied by any incomprehensible and unpleasant manifestations (spots, pus, wounds), then its cause is a skin disease. Then appropriate treatment with drugs and observation by a specialist is required.

5+ best shampoos

If you have a dry scalp, you might want to consider changing your shampoo. Often, after contacting a specialist and identifying the causes of the formation of dry epidermis, the doctor recommends changing your hair care product.

Antifungal products that are also good for moisturizing the scalp include:

  1. Shampoo Dermazol. The main agent in its composition is ketoconazole, which effectively copes with fungal infections without side effects.
  2. The drug Nizoral.
  3. Sebozol.
  4. Keto plus.
  5. Algopix. The product contains tar with juniper, as well as algae extract in alcohol form. Shampoo is appropriate for seborrhea or the occurrence of etiology.

Such products should be used in a full course of 6-7 procedures. It is recommended to use tar-based shampoos no more than 3 times a week.

It is best to use medicated emollient shampoos every day to obtain visible results in the formation of psoriasis. The products are based on sulfate and salts, which have a gentle effect. These shampoos include: Emolium; Oilatum.

They help retain moisture on the surface of the epidermis. However, the use of shampoos is an auxiliary method. Along with them, it is necessary to identify the root causes of dryness and comprehensively combat this problem.

Also pay attention to sulfate-free products on store shelves. Shampoos with vitamins B5 and B4 are also useful. They may also contain ceramides.

Basic principles of treatment

The first step is to change your shampoo, give up heat styling, stop dyeing your hair (or choose soft products from natural ingredients). It is advisable to include foods rich in vitamins and fats, fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet.

Also recommended:

  • applying nourishing masks;
  • rinsing with herbal decoctions;
  • taking vitamins;
  • giving up alcohol and smoking;
  • head massage that will improve blood circulation;
  • wearing a hat in cold weather;
  • washing with boiled (or filtered) warm water.

If a patient has been diagnosed with a skin disease, treatment is prescribed by the attending physician. It consists of applying ointments, taking antifungal tablets and vitamins.

1Reasons

First, let's be clear: very dry skin and hair are a serious symptom. If you don’t figure out the reason, you can be left without gorgeous hair.

As a rule, incorrect functioning of the sebaceous glands is responsible for dry hair and scalp. The healthy shine and elasticity of the hair disappears, it gets tangled easily, fragility appears when combing, and unpleasant sensations on the skin appear. Dryness can cause hair loss.

2Internal reasons

To determine why your hair is dry, you must first check for the following diseases:

Anemia

This disease causes all cells to suffer from a lack of oxygen. Blood microcirculation is disrupted, hemoglobin levels decrease. Therefore, people with anemia usually look paler than healthy people. The skin becomes dry. In the scalp, the flow of nutrients to the hair follicles deteriorates, which worsens the condition of the hair.

Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract

With various diseases of the stomach and intestines, the absorption of nutrients is impaired. This means that curls and skin simply have nowhere to get resources to maintain normal health. This can also cause dry skin and hair.

Kidney or lung disease

Many diseases of these organs may not have the best effect on hair quality. But in this case, this is not the worst of the consequences that can be encountered if the disease is neglected.

Sources in the mouth

It seems incredible, but foci of infection such as carious teeth or constantly inflamed tonsils can cause dry skin, including the scalp, as well as many other diseases.

Parasite activity

If you seem to be quite healthy and are wondering why your curls have become stiff, get tested for the presence of parasites in your body. Usually, a separate sample is taken to detect each type of worm. Parasites are so called precisely because they live off the resources of our body, which means that the carrier himself does not receive enough of these resources. Often brittle hair is the only sign of helminthic infestation.

Hormones

Hormonal imbalances are a common phenomenon. There is no need to be surprised if dry skin, fragility of curls, and cycle disruption occur simultaneously. In this case, you should consult a doctor, he will refer you for a blood test, which will allow you to find out for sure whether the hormonal balance is disturbed. After this, the doctor will select the appropriate treatment.

Dry seborrhea

This is a fungal skin disease. It affects the hair, not necessarily the scalp, being localized in the sebaceous ducts. If the scalp is damaged, pink spots appear on it, and the skin becomes covered with scales. Washing your hair with cool water becomes unpleasant and it starts to itch. Seborrhea usually does not “touch” a healthy person; people get it when the body is already weakened. The reasons should be sought deeper.

3External reasons

In addition to the above, there are other causes of dry scalp and hair. They are not so “scary”; you can easily cope with their elimination on your own. These include:

Errors in care

Due to improper hair care, your hair can suffer greatly. Many people think that oily scalps require drying agents and frequent washing. But this is the main misconception.

If you use too aggressive shampoos, intending to “dry” the scalp, the skin will respond with even more sebum.

This is the most common cause of the combination “oily roots - dry split ends.” As a result, you will get dryness immediately after washing, brittle hair, and an oily head by the evening.

There is the opposite problem - not washing your hair thoroughly enough. Some cosmetics, such as hairspray or hair gel, are difficult to wash off from your hair.

For better results, experts recommend rinsing your hair thoroughly with warm running water for at least ten minutes before applying shampoo. After this, thoroughly foam the shampoo, massage the scalp and distribute the product through the strands, and rinse thoroughly. It is important that the product does not remain on the strands or scalp; there should be no sticky feeling after washing.

Choice of funds

If you use products for oily curls on dry hair, you can only worsen the situation. You should opt for products for dry hair and scalp. As a last resort, take shampoos for all hair types. Dull and brittle curls will thank you if you also purchase moisturizing and nourishing masks for them and choose a good balm.

Coloring and bleaching

Everyone knows how the use of coloring agents affects the condition of the hair. The causes of dryness are often found in frequent or inept dyeing. This is especially true for those who like radical changes in appearance, for example, bleaching dark hair to platinum blonde in a short time can turn into a real disaster. The bleach penetrates deep into the hair structure and damages it.

Perms also have a negative effect on hair.

To avoid troubles in this field, entrust such manipulations as hair coloring to a master. Give preference to the choice of soft tint products, and in no case be partial with the procedures. If your curls are already damaged, you will have to give up dyeing and curling altogether for some time. Choose a non-aggressive shampoo, use moisturizing masks and balms.

Hot dryer and stylers

Another reason for the deterioration of hair condition. The problem is especially relevant for those who dry their hair every day. It’s very hard to give up reasonable time-saving and beautiful styling, but the result of this daily “labor” is usually not pleasing: dull, brittle hair.

If this is your case, consider changing your hair dryer and curling iron to a more “professional” one; they have several modes and are less damaging to your hair. Also, when drying and styling, you should use products with a thermal filter to protect your hair from the effects of high temperatures.

Dry air, dust, cold, sun, salt water

Even if you treat your hair with care and use suitable care products, you can still experience dry scalp and related problems.

External factors such as dry air (especially during the heating season), ultraviolet radiation, cold, and dust can harm your scalp. In hot and cold weather, you need to wear appropriate hats; in rooms with a dry microclimate, use air humidifiers. Chlorinated and salty water are also negative factors. After swimming in the sea or pool, you need to thoroughly wash your hair with shampoo and apply a moisturizing mask.

Poor nutrition

This reason has something in common with anemia. When a person does not monitor his diet, eats monotonous food poor in vitamins and minerals, a shortage of these very elements occurs. To correct the situation is quite simple - include more varied foods in your diet. You can purchase special biologically active food supplements and take them in a course according to the instructions.

Hairstyles

During recovery, you should be especially careful with your hair. It is best to go for a haircut that requires minimal styling effort; any graduated shape will do.

Do not pull your curls too tightly and try not to use tight elastic bands!

Experiment with mousse or low-hold hairspray. The main rule is minimum manipulation, maximum effect.

Washing hair for dry skin

Dry scalp and itching: what to do and how to wash your hair correctly in this case, a professional cosmetologist can tell you. The optimal frequency of washing your hair is once every 5-6 days. The hotter the water, the better (the functioning of the sebaceous glands improves).

The whole process looks like this:

  • before washing, apply a nourishing mask;
  • The product is first applied to the hands, whipped into foam, and then rubbed into the roots with massage movements;
  • the shampoo is washed off, and the hair is rinsed with a decoction of calendula or nettle (2 tablespoons of herb per half liter of water);
  • a soothing balm is applied (optional).

It is better to dry your curls naturally: wrap them in a towel and wait until the moisture is absorbed. It is not recommended to comb wet hair; it is better to do this afterwards.

How to wash your hair correctly

Treatment of dry scalp requires a competent choice of care products. But it is equally important to know how to wash your hair correctly:

  1. Before the procedure, be sure to comb your hair with a massage brush.
  2. The detergent should not be applied immediately; you need to lightly rub it with your palms and carefully distribute it through your hair.
  3. Always completely wash off makeup from your hair, otherwise dryness will haunt you for the rest of your life.
  4. Use specialized shampoos alternately with folk recipes to give the skin a break from the effects of synthetic substances.
  5. Do not rub your hair with a towel after washing or style it wet.
  6. If possible, rinse your hair with melted or filtered water. This type of care quickly transforms your skin.

Shampoos

The right choice of shampoo will help solve the problem by 70%. It is advisable to select soft products that contain niacinamide, panthenol, bisabolol and allantoin. They can relieve irritation and itching. Shampoos with natural additives, nourishing oils and without fragrances help well.

Methods and means

Methods and remedies depend on the cause of hair loss. Shampoos and masks in most cases bring temporary results, and the wrong product can only worsen the situation. Without consulting specialists: a dermatologist, trichologist, endocrinologist, it is impossible to see the whole picture. Therefore, the first thing you need to do is make an appointment and examination.

Anything that is a remedy must act on the hair follicles.

The rods themselves cannot be cured, since they feed from the bulbs. That is why, when deciding to start treatment, you need to consult a doctor.

But the condition of the rods can be corrected by external influence. But hair loss can only be dealt with by eating from the inside or applying special medications to the hair roots.

Moisturizing masks

Making special masks for dry, itchy scalp is an excellent way to soothe the epidermis and saturate it with nutrients. They are applied before washing your hair and left for 15 to 30 minutes for maximum effect.

The most well-known remedies today include the following:

  • Philip Kingsley Scalp Mask: soothes the skin, cleanses well and gets rid of dandruff. The mask is rubbed in with massage movements and left for 10 minutes.
  • Revlon Professional SOS: Ideal for people prone to allergies, it is gentle and helps relieve irritation. Apply a thin layer to a clean head and do not wash off;
  • Optima Maschera Cute Sensibile: heals the skin, stimulates blood circulation, effectively fights dehydration. Apply after washing to the epidermis and hair from roots to ends; rinsing is not necessary.
  • Sea Of Spa Hair Care Mask: this is a mud mask that has a soothing effect on the epidermis, filling it with moisture and nutrients. Apply to moistened hair roots with massage movements, leave for 6-8 minutes, then rinse off.

Regular application of masks will help moisturize the skin, get rid of dryness problems and significantly improve the appearance of the hair.

Troubleshooting methods

Medicinal shampoos will help remove dandruff

The following therapeutic measures will help get rid of dry skin and intense hair loss:

  • taking vitamin supplements;
  • use of medicated shampoos, balms, etc.;
  • use of masks and rinses.

It is desirable that the treatment be carried out comprehensively, that is, with the simultaneous use of several treatment methods.

Vitamin complexes

In combination with other treatment methods, taking vitamin complexes helps a lot. They are recommended to be taken not only for medicinal purposes, but also for prevention. The standard course of administration is a month, 1 tablet per day, but according to the doctor’s recommendations, the dose and course are often increased.

  • Vita Charm is the most popular vitamin complex designed for healthy hair, skin and nails. It contains vitamins A and B, as well as nutrients that enrich the skin and hair with microelements.
  • Pantovigar is an excellent remedy for dryness. Contains amino acids, cystine, pantothenate and keratin, which provides the skin with complete nutrition and moisture saturation.

Comprehensive measures to eliminate dryness

If the epidermis becomes dry, you can start taking vitamins; it is best to take vitamins A and E. They have a beneficial effect on the scalp and, most importantly, the hair itself.

If a doctor detects skin diseases, treatment may include taking antibiotics as well as antifungal agents.

The kit can add the use of cream ointments, for example, Akriderm and Elokom.

Hormonal ointments are appropriate to use when psoriasis is detected. Doctors may prescribe combination medications, which contain antibiotics along with hormones.

The consequences of using hormonal ointments may not be entirely good; when the medications are discontinued, dry skin returns with even greater force.

According to reviews on forums, the newest drug in medicine, Skin Cap, is very popular; it contains zinc pyrithione, which helps eliminate dryness and burning.

Thanks to Skin Cap, the scalp is protected from the influence of external and internal irritants.

The use of such a drug is completely harmless for both adults and children.

The drug can be used even by pregnant women and during lactation.

In addition, review your diet. It is necessary to eat foods enriched with vitamins A, B and C, as well as zinc and iron.

Patients are recommended to undergo a course of herbal medicine. It is better to treat the scalp daily with sea buckthorn, castor and burdock oils. And as a rinse it is better to use herbal or lemon solutions.

Homemade masks for dry scalp

You can make a mask at home from natural ingredients. The easiest and fastest way is fermented milk products. It is enough to take 200 ml of kefir, heat it, apply to the scalp and leave for 25-30 minutes. The result is visible after the first use.

The following masks also help a lot:

  • from an onion: the onion is crushed to a paste, placed on cheesecloth and carefully placed along the partings. The bulb is good for hair loss and burning. The mask is left for 25 minutes, then washed off with water. Attention! There may be an unpleasant odor after the mask.
  • from honey: 30 ml of liquid honey is mixed with 55 ml of olive oil and rubbed into the roots. The mask soothes the skin, improves its structure, and acts as a good moisturizer. It is enough to hold for 20 minutes.

  • from egg yolk: beat the yolk with a mixer, then add 55 ml of water and 25 ml of vodka (to increase blood flow). The resulting mixture is applied to the hair and left for 17-18 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
  • from sour cream: 1 tbsp. sour cream mixed with 1 tbsp. lemon juice, stir with raw egg until smooth. The mass is applied to the surface of the head while warm (it speeds up nutrition) and kept for 30 minutes. When applying, it is recommended to massage.
  • from burdock oil: a simple recipe - just buy the oil at the pharmacy and apply a thin layer to the entire surface of the head. Wash off after 25-35 minutes; to achieve the best results, leave the oil overnight.

Masks and rinses

Hair masks made from natural products will help heal your scalp.

To strengthen curls and eliminate dryness and flaking of the scalp, masks that you can prepare yourself are especially popular in folk medicine. Next, consider the recipes for the most effective masks:

  • The yolk part of a chicken egg is mixed with a spoonful of honey and the same amount of olive oil. The well-mixed mixture is applied to the skin, closer to the roots of the curls, after which the head should be covered with cellophane for the best effect of the product. After thirty minutes, wash off the mask using shampoo.
  • A mask based on blue clay is highly effective, as it combats skin flaking well and strengthens curls. For dry scalp types, it is better to combine the component with kefir and olive oil. To prepare the mixture, you will need a glass of fermented milk product, a large spoon of clay and an identical amount of oil product. After mixing, the ingredients are applied to clean and slightly damp strands. For exposure, leave for half an hour, covering your head with a plastic cap.
  • For one chicken yolk, take a large spoon of forty-proof alcohol or vodka and two spoons of burdock oil. After thorough mixing, the consistency is distributed at the very roots. After this, you can put on a plastic cap, wait half an hour, and then wash off the product with shampoo.
  • For fifty milliliters of olive oil, take the juice of one lemon. The mixed components are applied to the dermis of the head and left for an average of half an hour. You can use the mask every three days.
  • Castor oil in a dosage of two large spoons is mixed with a small amount of glycerin, egg yolk and a dessert spoon of three percent vinegar. Apply to the roots, then put on a cellophane cap and wait twenty minutes. Can be used once every five days.
  • The juice of one onion and lemon is mixed with a quarter glass of any vegetable oil, but preferably olive oil. Distribute on the scalp and wrap in cellophane. After half an hour, the medicinal mixture is washed off.
  • Liquid linden honey and olive oil are mixed in equal quantities. It is advisable to distribute the product only at the root part of the curls, after which it is left to work for half an hour. After this time, the medicinal ointment is washed off.

Herbal rinses will help enhance the effect of the mask

To improve the therapeutic effect, it is recommended to combine masks with herbal rinses based on chamomile, sage, mint, burdock root or nettle.

Oils

Dry scalp and itching: a dermatologist will tell you what to do and how to relieve the itching. Oils quickly cope with this task. They are rubbed into the hair roots for 20 minutes. Before washing your hair, use light massage movements.

It is very convenient to apply oil with a pipette, which allows you to adjust the amount of oil. The oil stays on for 20 minutes, after which you can wash your hair. It forms a protective film that prevents moisture from evaporating.

This improves the functioning of the sebaceous glands and saturates the epidermis with useful substances.

For dry skin it is recommended:

  • coconut oil: considered an effective remedy for dryness, it is recommended to choose refined oil as it is easier to wash off;

  • avocado: works well against dandruff, soothes the skin;
  • shea: ideal for inflamed skin, quickly softens and soothes it;
  • sea buckthorn oil: can not only soften the epidermis, but also kill bacteria and fungi. Under its influence, wounds heal quickly, dandruff completely disappears;
  • almond oil: quickly penetrates even into the lower layers of the epidermis, has a general strengthening effect.

Before use, you need to check for allergies: apply 1 drop to the crook of your elbow and wait 15 minutes. If everything is fine (no rashes or redness), then the oil can be used.

Causes

More often, this health problem develops during seasonal vitamin deficiency. Microcracks and cracks form on the surface of the skin, into which dust, chemicals, and various contaminants enter. Hair becomes brittle and dry, and dandruff appears. The list of reasons why dry scalp does not end here. Trichologists identify other physiological factors:

  • unhealthy diet (consuming large quantities of fast food, fatty, salty, smoked and fried foods);
  • presence of bad habits (smoking, drinking large portions of coffee and alcohol);
  • sedentary lifestyle (refusal to walk in the fresh air, physical passivity);
  • everyday use of low-quality hair cosmetics, the presence of potential allergens;
  • washing your hair in excessively hot water, regularly using a hair dryer to dry your hair;
  • frequent painting, use of low-quality paint;
  • long stay under the burning sun without a hat;
  • genetic predisposition, when dry skin is inherited;
  • food allergies to certain foods from the daily diet;
  • menopause period;
  • dehydration of the body;
  • changes in hormonal levels due to progressive pregnancy.

Increased dryness of the epidermis often becomes a pronounced symptom of an internal disease. It will not be possible to solve a health problem until the doctor, together with the patient, manages to defeat the main diagnosis. Possible skin diseases such as psoriasis, seborrhea, eczema, ringworm, dermatitis. Fungal infection should not be ruled out. Other pathological factors:

  • metabolic disease;
  • gynecological diseases;
  • problems with the thyroid gland;
  • chronic diseases of the digestive system;
  • suffered stress.

Cosmetology procedures

In case of hair loss, it is important not only to follow the doctor’s recommendations on nutrition, care and taking vitamin complexes, but also to undergo a course of supportive procedures aimed at solving the problem. The most effective methods today include the following cosmetic procedures.

Laser therapy

Pulsating light rays penetrate the hair growth area, improving blood circulation and activating hair follicles. Therapy is carried out 2-3 times a week, the first results are noticeable after 2-3 months.

Ozone therapy

The procedure is carried out in two ways.

injection, into problem areas;

using an ozone “greenhouse”, when a special cap is put on the head.

The first method is considered more effective.

Mesotherapy

Injections of cocktails with vitamins, microelements, and peptides stimulate hair growth, stop hair loss and promote overall health of the scalp. The course usually consists of 10–15 sessions.

Plasma therapy PRP and PPP

One of the most effective and promising methods of combating baldness. Injections of platelet-rich plasma, which is obtained from the patient's blood, are made into problem areas of the head. This leads to an increase in the concentration of growth factors (natural polypeptides with a wide range of biological effects) in the hair follicle, which leads to stimulation of hair growth. As a rule, the course consists of 4–6 procedures per month.

Massage

Massage activates microcirculation in the scalp, which improves the supply of essential nutrients to the hair follicles, and also helps to increase the bioavailability of active components from intensive products.

It is effective to first massage, trying to avoid excessive force, and then apply an intensive care product along the parting.

Diet

Dry scalp and itching (what to do and how to treat is described above) is a serious problem that requires a comprehensive solution. A special diet will help speed up treatment. It will strengthen the immune system (protection against the proliferation of bacteria and fungi), fill the body with vitamins (the functioning of the sebaceous glands is normalized), and restore digestion (the condition of the skin will improve).

Changing your diet is what you need to do for dry scalp.

What can you eat/drinkWhat not to eat/drink
clean water up to 2 liters per day;
freshly squeezed juices, herbal teas;

dairy products excluding milk;

cheese;

lean meat;

low-fat fish;

fresh vegetables and fruits without restrictions.

alcohol, sweet cocktails and sodas;
semi-finished products, canned food and marinades;

salty, spicy food;

semolina, potatoes;

bakery products;

fried and fatty foods;

citrus fruits (are allergens), honey.

Treatment is medicinal

For the treatment of fungal diseases, a set of drugs is prescribed:

  • vitamins;
  • ointments, most often prescribed sulfur ointment;
  • antimycotics (tablets are used when treatment is impossible in other ways).

When used together, these methods can effectively overcome dry scalp epidermis and discomfort.

Tablets such as Fluconazole help destroy the fungal membrane; they should be taken according to the recipe, depending on the severity of the disease.

Sulfur ointment should be applied to problem areas of the skin approximately 2 times a day for 7 days.

Ozone therapy

Ozone therapy is actively used to treat dry skin, dandruff and fungi. The procedure involves exposing the skin to highly active oxygen. There are several methods (external influence, injections or systemic administration) - the choice is determined by the attending physician.

During the procedure, the skin is saturated with oxygen, blood circulation is stimulated, which leads to hair growth. Irritation and inflammation go away, fungi and bacteria are destroyed, dandruff disappears. The results last for a long time.

Main causes of hair loss

Today, nothing is impossible: Botox is used to correct wrinkles, and fillers based on hyaluronic acid are used to strengthen the oval of the face and fill in nasolabial folds. Complexion can be corrected with mesotherapy, breast or butt size can be corrected with implants.

Doctors distinguish three types of hair loss.

  • Diffuse telogen effluvium.
  • Androgenetic alopecia.
  • Involutional alopecia.

Diffuse telogen effluvium

The growth phase is shortened and long hair falls out all over the head. In this case, the temporal and occipital zones are especially affected. The main causes of diffuse loss include deficiency.

  • proteins (diet, fasting, vegetarianism);
  • iron (latent iron deficiency anemia);
  • microelements involved in hair synthesis: zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, magnesium;
  • vitamin D - its lack affects the hormonal system and hair growth.

In addition, other factors can cause chronic diffuse hair loss.

  • Hormonal imbalance , decrease and increase in the level of thyroid hormones, sex hormones: estrogens, testosterone, progesterone.
  • Previous illness with fever or anesthesia.
  • Severe stress , which provokes the release of inflammatory mediators.
  • Taking certain medications : immunomodulators, psychotropic drugs, drugs for the treatment of the thyroid gland.

Androgenetic loss

It is characterized by loss and thinning of short hair in androgen-dependent areas (forehead, crown, crown). The parting gradually becomes wider. There are only two causes of androgen loss, but they are very serious.

Increased levels of testosterone in the blood.

Sensitivity of hair follicles in androgen-dependent areas to dehydrotestosterone.

Both reasons lead to deformation of the follicle - its reduction. And they are caused by genetic predisposition.

Involutional alopecia

This type of hair loss is associated with age-related changes and a slowdown in regeneration processes. In women it begins closer to menopause.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy will help you quickly get rid of all unpleasant manifestations. It involves the introduction of nutrients into the epidermis through injections. The follicles receive the required elements, blood supply improves, and the secretion of the sebaceous glands is normalized. The procedure takes no more than 40 minutes, one course includes 8 sessions.

Dry scalp is an unpleasant phenomenon, especially when it itches. What to do and which method to choose depends on the severity of the disease. If itching has recently begun to bother you, then you can start with traditional medicine recipes. If the condition worsens, then an integrated approach and consultation with a specialist are necessary.

Trouble and discomfort

Obvious inconveniences include dryness, fragility, unkempt appearance, discomfort and awkwardness. Hair becomes more tangled, looks lifeless, and becomes clogged with dandruff. Dry skin is often tight, irritated, flaky, cracked, and its microflora is more susceptible to infections.

There are also hidden sources of discomfort. Hair loss and dandruff, which brings accompanying itching and untidiness in appearance, split ends, damaged structure.

It is considered normal if up to 100 hairs fall out per day. Hair loss is a symptom and very rarely a disease. If more than three hairs remain in your hand when you pull out a strand of 15 pieces, this is a possible symptom of alopecia. This is a disease that in some cases leads to baldness. There are several types. Scarring, focal, androgenetic and symptomatic alopecia.

The presence of dandruff indicates seborrhea of the scalp. The reason for this is internal or external processes of the body. It is easier to deal with dandruff that is caused by improper care.

Dandruff is a consequence of accelerated regeneration of skin cells, which is provoked by yeast fungus.

Recovery and treatment

Vitamins

Vitamins are necessary during special periods: during rehabilitation after illness. Only vitamins B9 are beneficial for hair, biotin is a regulator of hair growth, greasiness and mood. Hair is a protein, its structure is supported by minerals. One of the minerals is zinc, found in sesame seeds. Vitamins act from the inside and nourish the bulbs! Don't forget that they are found in food! Only a doctor prescribes a vitamin support complex. Knowing the cause of hair loss, you can quickly help your hair and the body as a whole.

Masks

They affect both the roots and the structure. You cannot cure your hair with masks, but you can maintain a well-groomed appearance of your hair and nourish the hair follicles. You should take seriously the choice of the right mask in terms of nutritional composition.

Mask recipe

Regular castor oil is so effective against hair loss that 4 masks over the course of a week may be enough. Mix 1 tablespoon of castor oil with fine sea salt (about 1.5 tablespoons). Salt is needed to dissolve sebaceous plugs and prepare the skin to absorb oil.

Coarse salt injures the skin. Before applying the mask, moisten your hair and steam your skin. This ensures effective absorption of substances. Lubricate the hair roots with the mixture, wrap with a warm towel for 30-40 minutes.
