Wheat germ oil - a wealth of natural beauty

Wheat germ oil for the face is one of the most effective remedies, but only when used correctly, taking into account many rules and recommendations. Proper use with awareness of each action guarantees the desired result, therefore, before you go to the store to make a purchase or unplannedly purchase a new bottle with a previously untried composition, you need to pay maximum attention to studying the information about the product and its properties.

The fact is that the same rules do not apply to different vegetable fats, and if one product can be used in its pure form, then another cannot be used for certain reasons. Everyone probably knows about the high comedogenicity of the extract, which is the main disadvantage, but are there those who fully know all the ways to turn this disadvantage into a huge number of advantages. Detailed information on this issue is presented in the text below.

Universal wheat germ oil is suitable for girls and women with any skin type

General and characteristics

The germ is the basis of wheat grains - the kernel. All the vital resources of future spikelets are concentrated in them. The raw materials from which oil is made are an invaluable storehouse of useful components. It is unlikely that many natural remedies can boast the same rich composition as germs: 12 vitamins, 18 amino acids and 21 microelements. As the culture grows, the amount and concentration of these substances decreases, but the carbohydrate content increases.

It is at this stage that wheat can bring maximum benefits to the body. Compared to ripe grains, germs contain more calcium (1.5–2.5 times), potassium (2.5–5 times) and B vitamins (3–4 times). Natural oil from wheat kernels is extracted by cold pressing (pressing) the grains, which consist of 7–14% thick oily liquid.

To obtain 250 ml of the finished product, you need to process about 1 ton of raw materials.

The resulting extract from wheat germ has a thick consistency, golden yellow color, rich herbaceous aroma and unique taste. This oil is actively used in cosmetology as a base oil. This means that the nutritious liquid is suitable for use in its pure form, for preparing various homemade creams, masks, lotions and balms, and for enriching finished body care products.

Advice. The healthiest oil is unrefined. It can be cosmetic or food. Look for the appropriate instructions on the bottle, packaging, and instructions.

Benefits of wheat germ oil for the face

The positive effect on the skin is explained by the high concentration of tocopherol acetate, a powerful antioxidant that is necessary in the fight against aging. The presence of carotenoids, B vitamins in combination with mineral compounds suggests that for a healthy appearance of the epidermis it is better to combine external care with enriching the diet with foods containing unsaturated fats. For these purposes, edible unrefined oil (cold pressed) or in capsules (dietary food supplement) is suitable.

Phytosterols stimulate the synthesis of collagen, an essential protein for preserving beauty, relieve inflammation, make the epidermis firm, smooth, elastic, and prevent the formation of scars after acne. Squalene ensures deep penetration of the composition and suppresses fungal microflora.

We looked at the unsaponifiable fraction, but the product is 99.9% fat, the ratio between which determines the main characteristics. Palmitic acid accounts for up to 22.0%, stearic acid – 15.0%. These substances form a protective shell that prevents the negative influence of external factors and improves the penetration ability of other components.

IMPORTANT. These acids seal the epidermis, creating a protective film, so they can clog skin pores.

Oleic acid retains moisture inside the dermis, and in combination with linoleic and linolenic acid prevents aging. Polyunsaturated fatty acids relieve inflammation and make the created film breathable.

Here everything depends on the proportions, so one vegetable fat does not clog the skin pores, while the other is contraindicated in its pure form, even on dry epidermis.

Cosmetologists recommend using these compounds in the following ratios:

  • omega-9:omega-6 1.5:1;
  • omega-6:omega-3 1:10.

Not a single oil meets these requirements, so the extracts must be mixed with each other. In the recipes, these combinations, depending on the type of dermis, are already taken into account, so when preparing homemade masks, you must follow the specified quantities of ingredients.

Even one drop of a certain ester is enough to enhance any effects, so you should not independently, without consulting a cosmetologist, exclude such ingredients from the composition or replace them with similar ones.

Beneficial features

The natural product contains essential amino acids that are not produced by the human body. These are tryptophan, leucine, methionine, etc. Also, the oily liquid obtained from wheat germ is replete with saturated and unsaturated fatty acids:

  • linoleic - helps retain moisture, protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation and peeling, improves complexion;
  • stearic - heals wounds and cracks in the epidermis;
  • palmitic – provides a rejuvenating effect;
  • oleic - relieves redness, eliminates irritation, smoothes wrinkles, etc.

Premature skin aging is prevented by phytosterols, which have the reputation of plant hormones. Allantoin calms inflammation, and a carbohydrate called squalene is a natural antiseptic and antioxidant. Vitamins (A, D, group B) and microelements (copper, sulfur, manganese, iron, potassium, iodine, etc.) do a lot of good for the beauty and health of the skin.

These substances activate the regeneration of the dermis and the production of collagen, elastin, help narrow pores, have a disinfecting effect, help fight acne, and enhance the protective functions of the skin. Vitamin E is known as an antioxidant, which is also responsible for the youth of the epidermis.

Natural wheat germ oil does not contain components that can harm the body. An exception is individual intolerance to certain components or use of the product contrary to existing contraindications.

Compound

Wheat is a grain crop that has long been revered in our latitudes. Bread and cereals are made from it; many people cannot imagine life without it. And it is not for nothing that it occupies a priority place in agricultural production. In terms of the content of biologically active substances, few other local crops can compare with it. And when the grain germinates, there are even more of them in the young, soft green shoots:

  • Retinol (vitamin A) – normalizes sebum secretion, stimulates natural cell renewal, accelerates the production of collagen and elastin.
  • Tocopherol (vitamin E) – neutralizes the harmful effects of free radicals, prevents the early appearance of wrinkles, strengthens the immune system and the protective properties of the skin.
  • Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) - penetrates the hydrolipid barrier and restores damaged cells, has anti-inflammatory and rejuvenating properties.
  • Group of B vitamins - vitamins of this group also directly affect the condition and appearance of the skin, helping to smooth out wrinkles and slow down age-related destructive processes.
  • Calciferol (vitamin D) – promotes the absorption of calcium, regulates the production of the coloring pigment – melatonin.
  • Nicotinic acid (vitamin PP) - strengthens the walls of blood vessels and capillaries, activates subcutaneous circulation, saturates cells with oxygen.
  • Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a strong natural antioxidant, prolongs youth, and has a slight whitening effect.
  • Allatoins are substances with excellent anti-inflammatory and mild analgesic effects, stimulate the regeneration of cells and tissues.
  • Minerals and trace elements are necessary for the skin for the normal course of metabolic processes and are part of the cells.
  • Amino acids are the building blocks from which new layers of skin are built, they are necessary for the formation of collagen and elastin that maintain its elasticity, and help retain moisture.
  • Fatty acids (linoleic, olienic, etc.) – protect cell membranes from destruction, soften and moisturize the skin, and form a thin protective film on it.

Please note that fatty acids are present in very small quantities. This is what makes wheat germ oil for the face such a versatile, and in some cases, almost irreplaceable product.

Indications for use

Like many other base oils, an extract from sprouted wheat grains is suitable for any skin type. It is often recommended for mature, fading epidermis.

For those with oily skin, the oil will help improve the functioning of the sebaceous glands, and those with dry dermis will enjoy it for its moisturizing properties. Main indications for use for cosmetic purposes:

  • elimination of other inflammatory elements;

Attention! Also, wheat germ oil is beneficial for the skin of the body, hair, nails, eyelashes, eyebrows - and this is only when used externally, but the product from wheat germ is also taken orally.

What effect does it have?

Let's figure out what effect wheat sprout oil has.

  • Rejuvenation. The product slows down the natural signs of aging and protects well from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. In addition, the product activates the synthesis of natural collagen and promotes cell regeneration processes. With systematic use, there is an increase in skin tone and smoothing of wrinkles.

  • Cleansing. This type of oil has a light structure; it does not clog pores, but, on the contrary, helps cleanse them. Therefore, the product can also be recommended for those with problem skin.
  • Toning. A large amount of vitamins and minerals helps to tone the skin.

This product can be classified as universal; girls and women of any age can use it. But this product will be especially useful for aging skin. The oil has a soft and extremely delicate effect; it can also be recommended for application around the eyes.

Where to buy and how to store

The oil is sold in pharmacies and stores selling natural, organic products, including those intended for food. You can also make a purchase via the Internet. Wheat germ extract will cost you an approximate amount of 40 to 860 rubles.

The price is affected by the volume of the bottle. The most common packaging is 100 ml, but you can also buy 25, 30, 50 ml. The product, intended for culinary purposes, is also sold in containers of 250 and 350 ml.

The difference in cost is also due to the brand. Wheat germ oil is produced by Mirolla, Botanika, Elfarma and other manufacturers. Their products fall into the category of budget pharmacy products sold without a prescription.

Usually the oil is poured into glass bottles made of dark or light glass. In the first case, you don’t have to worry about ultraviolet rays affecting the oil. But a transparent glass container allows you to evaluate the color of the oily liquid. If you see sediment in it, this is not a sign that the oil has gone bad, since the product may form a small suspension.

When purchasing, pay attention to the expiration date information. Due to its properties, the hermetically sealed cosmetic extract from wheat germ does not deteriorate at temperatures up to +25 °C for three years. Once opened, it is best to keep it in a dark, cool place and use it within 3–6 months. Edible oil has a shorter shelf life - up to a year, and after opening the bottle - about 1 month, and only in the refrigerator.

You can buy wheat germ oil in capsule form at the pharmacy. The cost of a package (60 pcs.) is approximately 100 rubles. This is a dietary supplement that affects the body from the inside.

Cooking rules at home

So that you receive satisfaction not only from the process, but also enjoy the results, remember simple rules.

  • Never use metal utensils to prepare a mask.
  • Always warm wheat germ oil before use.
  • Store finished masks (if they can be stored) in tightly closed containers in a dark place. Sunlight and high temperatures destroy the structure of oils.
  • Never use unfamiliar ingredients when preparing a mask.
  • Before using any ingredient, check for allergic reactions.
  • Apply the mask to skin that is well cleansed of dirt and cosmetics.
  • Always wash off the mask with warm water and rinse with cool water.

Recommendations for use

Before anointing your face with healthy wheat germ oil, make sure you are not allergic. Distribute a little product over the delicate skin of the wrist or on the inner bend of the elbow. Wait 15–20 minutes.

For greater confidence, it is worth observing the treated area for about 12 hours. Individual intolerance can manifest itself in the form of an allergic reaction: itching, peeling, redness, etc.

If there are no symptoms, use the remedy for your health. The main thing is to exercise moderation. For example, do not make masks with oil more than 1-2 times a week. For oily skin, it is worth doing a 10-day interval. After 8–15 procedures a break will be required. Don't neglect this rule.

Wheat germ oil will penetrate the skin better if you first hold it in a water bath. It is important to ensure that the liquid does not heat above 60 °C, otherwise it will lose some of its beneficial properties. To prepare homemade masks, take a glass, ceramic, or porcelain container. Mix all ingredients with a wooden or any other spatula, but avoid using metal utensils. Do not leave the oil on overnight. The optimal duration of a home session is 20–30 minutes.

Advice. Pre-cleanse the skin and spread a thin layer of oil or a combination product (mask, cream, etc.) over it.

In cosmetics

Manufacturers of facial care cosmetics often add valuable wheat germ oil to their products. After all, its healing properties will only improve the effect of a cream or face mask. For example, the Green Mama company has a whole line of facial care products with healing wheat germ oil.

Russian cosmetics “Clean Line” also has a series of nourishing creams with valuable oil in its assortment. D'Alpana and many other Ayurvedic cosmetics manufacturers add nourishing wheat oil to their facial care products.

Nowadays popular Korean cosmetics are famous for their naturalness. Wheat germ oil is often found in Korean creams.

Methods of application

In its pure form, this oil is rarely used because of its thick, dense, even slightly heavy consistency. The exception is certain small areas of the skin, for example, where there is peeling, signs of inflammation or rough areas. Also, wheat germ extract is locally distributed over the nasolabial fold, facial wrinkles in the corners of the eyes and on the forehead, over chapped lips, etc.

You can use the pure extract to remove makeup. In other cases, the oil is combined with analogues, esters, and other components of homemade masks, creams, and lotions that are “lighter” in structure.

For every 12–15 ml of wheat germ base product, take 2–3 drops of essential oily liquid.

For facial skin

The easiest way to use pure oil is as a skin cleanser. Soak a cotton swab in warm water and squeeze it out lightly. Drop a little natural wheat germ product and gently wipe the skin, moving along the massage lines. Further care is traditional.

It is also useful to prepare a natural mask with other oils. If you have dry, flabby, wrinkled or beginning to fade dermis, dilute the wheat extract with almond, apricot, olive or peach extract. Proportions - 1:3 or 1:4. Also add 1 drop of orange, mint, rose or sandalwood ester to this mixture.

For oily, problematic type of dermis, the healing composition will be different. Wheat germ concentrate is combined with grape seed oil (1:3). If, in addition to everything else, you are concerned about acne, add lavender, clove or cedar ether (2 drops) as the third ingredient.

Any of these compositions can replace a night cream or mask. In the second case, you will need a small gauze pad. Soak it in the healing composition and apply it to your face. Session duration is 20–30 minutes.

Other options for preparing homemade skin care products based on wheat extract:

  1. Lightening of age spots, freckles . To 1 tbsp. l. of cereal germ oils, add 1 drop each of lemon, bergamot, grapefruit or juniper esters. It is advisable to repeat the procedure twice a day.
  2. Lifting effect . Combine wheat and palm oils in equal proportions (each ingredient will require 1 tablespoon). Heat slightly in a water bath. Spread the mixture over your face using a spatula, avoiding the lips and skin around the eyes. Wait until the clay becomes hard, carefully remove the mask and wash with cool water.
  5. Smoothing wrinkles and moisturizing dry skin . This recipe will yield a cream that can be stored in the refrigerator for a maximum of 1 week. Prepare the base: mix wheat germ (25 ml), argan (3 ml), grape seed and avocado oils (5 ml each) in a porcelain container. Pour in 10 drops of vitamin E oil solution and 7 drops of frankincense ether. Separately, melt the beeswax (3 g) and add it drop by drop to the fatty mixture, which at this time whisk vigorously. Pour into a jar with a tight-fitting lid and use as a night cream.
  6. Improving complexion and eliminating peeling . Dilute a spoonful of wheat flour to a thick consistency with still mineral water. Heat a mixture of two oils in a water bath: grape seed and cereal germ. Take approximately 1 tsp. each ingredient. Combine all the components of the mask and apply warm to the skin of the face.
  7. Eliminates oily shine and tightens pores . In a 1:3 ratio, mix oily wheat extract with grape seed oil. Heat slightly in a water bath. Add 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice, as well as a couple of drops of lemon ether. Using a cotton pad, apply the mask to your face. After 15–20 minutes, remove the remaining mixture and wipe the skin with an ice cube.
  8. Moisturizing dry dermis . This recipe will help: 1 tbsp. l. dilute oatmeal with warm water to a thick cream. Pour in 2 tsp. almond and wheat germ oils.
  9. Rejuvenates oily skin, smoothes wrinkles and cleanses pores . Crush 1-2 tablets of ascorutin into powder. After 15 minutes, wash with warm water.
  10. Fighting acne . This mask does not have a strict recipe. You can combine the ingredients you like. The base will be 1 tbsp. l. extracts from wheat shoots. Add 1-2 oils to it, choosing from the following options: jojoba, burdock, castor, flaxseed, coconut, sea buckthorn. You need to take no more than 1 tsp of any ingredient. Pour in 3-4 drops of lavender, juniper, tea tree or rosemary ether. If your skin is oily, also add 1 tsp. lemon juice and white clay. Oily components should be heated in a water bath. The mask is applied to the skin for 15–20 minutes.
  11. Smoothing out wrinkles . The product is suitable for reducing the severity of folds in the nasolabial area, between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and in the corners of the eyes. To carry out the procedure, take a piece of gauze folded several times. Soak it in the liquid prepared according to one of the recipes and apply it to the required areas. Cover with parchment paper, then with a terry towel. Leave until absorbed. Options for nutritional mixtures:
  • 5 ml olive oil + 2 ml wheat germ extract + 3 drops rosemary ether;
  • 5 ml of base wheat component + 2 ml of jojoba + 3 drops of neroli;
  • three types of oils - avocado (2 ml), almond (3 ml), wheat germ (3 ml) combined with rose and lavender esters (1 drop each).

By the way. Wheat extract is used for massage after bath procedures, combining it in a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio with peach, apricot, sesame, olive, almond or jojoba oil. Add 4-5 drops of grapefruit, tangerine, orange esters or 1 drop of oily extracts of lemon, fennel, juniper, geranium to the mixture.

For the eyelids and area around the eyes

Rejuvenation of these areas requires special means. It is not recommended to use pure wheat concentrate on the delicate skin around the eyes. Dilute it with rosehip oil (proportions - 1:3), and also pour in 1 drop of neroli, sandalwood or rose ether. Use the mixture for aging skin around the eyes, where wrinkles are noticeable.

There are other recipes:

Stages of facial massage at home

  1. Prepare for the upcoming procedure: remove earrings, rings and other jewelry so as not to accidentally injure the skin, and collect your hair in a bun or hide it under a scarf.
  2. Clean your face well, removing makeup and washing with a special foam.
  3. To open your pores and prepare your skin for better absorption of nutrients, press a hot towel to your face for 30–60 seconds.
  4. Apply massage oil with soft, leisurely movements. In this case, you need to move from the middle of the face to the temples, as shown in the diagram above.
  5. Go over your forehead, cheeks and chin with your fingertips, gently tapping them on the skin. At this point the preparatory part can be considered complete.
  6. Place the pads of your index fingers on the wings of your nose and, pressing lightly, slowly move them down to the corners of your lips with rotating movements several times. This will help smooth out emerging nasolabial folds.
  7. Close your eyes and “drum” the pads of your index and ring fingers across your upper and lower eyelids to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet.
  8. To strengthen the oval of the face, place both palms on the chin and stroke it, moving from the center of the lower jaw to the ears. Repeat the movement several times.
  9. Now press the pads of all your fingers, except your thumbs, to the center of your forehead and move them towards your temples with rotating movements. It is important to try to cover the entire surface of the forehead and not give wrinkles a chance to settle on it.
  10. At the end, once again go through the massage lines shown in the diagram above, grabbing the skin with your fingertips and pinching it lightly. The key word is “slightly”, you should not experience any discomfort or pain!
  11. Tap your entire face again with your fingertips, relaxing the muscles.
  12. Remove any remaining oil with a paper towel.

This is just one of the many facial massage techniques that exist today. If for some reason it does not suit you, you can choose another technique - for example, classic Japanese massage, Asahi, Shiatsu, Kosha massage, Moroccan and so on. The main thing is that you enjoy the procedure.

The author of this review assures that positive changes are noticeable within a few days after starting to use the oil.

The next girl found several options for using wheat germ extract.

There is also some negativity. In some cases, a negative skin reaction to a cosmetic product is still possible.

The girl who left the following review advises using the oily liquid not only to moisturize the skin and get rid of wrinkles.

Wheat germ oil is a unique product that, in skillful hands, will become a magical remedy for any type of dermis. Proper use of natural wealth contained in a small bottle will help you become the owner of beautiful, healthy, glowing skin.

Drawing conclusions

Remember that it is better to perform all procedures in courses, and after 1.5-2 months take a break and use other anti-aging agents. Don't forget that your neck and décolleté also need additional nourishment. Otherwise, they will be strikingly different from fresh and tightened facial skin.

As you can see, wheat germ cosmetic oil is a universal and healthy product. Considering the affordable price, I recommend its presence in every home. By the way, it is also taken orally as a means to strengthen the immune system and cleanse blood vessels.

I would be glad if you share your recipes and impressions of germ oil in the comments.
