Features of the skin around the eyes

First of all, it must be said that the skin around the eyes is thinner, more delicate, in this area there are many blood and lymphatic vessels, as well as very active facial expressions.

This is why the first wrinkles may appear in the eye area quite early, and swelling often occurs. It is only natural that such a delicate area requires special care.

At what age should you start caring for the skin around your eyes?

Usually from the age of 25 - it is at this age that the aging process of the skin begins and it is already possible and even necessary to include special products for caring for the skin around the eyes in your arsenal.

Peculiarities

What causes thin facial skin and what features does it have? The most common causes are heredity, age-related changes and dehydration. It is impossible to eliminate the first two, so you need to be able to properly care for it. And for this you need to know some of its features:

  • high sensitivity to external irritants: smoky air, ultraviolet radiation, salt water, strong wind, frost, temperature changes;
  • deficiency of melanin in the cells of such skin is the reason for its pallor;
  • a minimum of fat layer, which gives elasticity;
  • in structure, the thin skin of the face is as close as possible to the epidermis around the eyes, so you can care for them with the same means, without spending money on different creams;
  • if a person is very emotional, which is manifested in facial expressions, the first wrinkles will appear on thin skin by the age of 30;
  • an incorrect lifestyle immediately affects the condition of thin skin: it quickly swells, turns red, and becomes covered in a rash due to drinking an extra glass of wine or a sleepless night, an abundance of fried and fatty foods in the diet;
  • reactions to cosmetics can be the most unpredictable - and most often negative;
  • there are also positive aspects in the fact that you have thin skin on your face: it never becomes covered with an oily sheen, the risk of blackheads is minimized, there are no enlarged pores;
  • peeling;
  • irritation;
  • feeling of tightness after washing.

If you have thin skin only under your eyes, and the rest of your face does not have such features, take care of it only accordingly (more details,). And for the rest of the epidermis, use regular cosmetics suitable for its type.

Test control. Do you suspect that you have thin facial skin? Confirm or dispel your doubts: run the blunt end of the pen across your cheek. If the red mark after it disappears within 20 seconds, don’t worry: your skin is normal. If it remains on the face longer, it is indeed a thin epidermis with a thinned fat layer.

Skin care around the eyes at 25 - 30 years old

At the age of 25 - 30 years, care for the skin around the eyes is usually only preventive.

In the summer, I usually recommend eye contour gels to young girls that:

  • improve microcirculation
  • help eliminate swelling
  • reducing dark circles under the eyes
  • moisturize the skin and thus prevent the premature appearance of wrinkles.

However, sometimes I recommend gels for the eye contour even at a more mature age, for example, to those ladies who are prone to swelling in this area. This could be Eye Contour Gel from Algologie or Eye Contour Gel with ATP from Dr. Spiller.

And in winter or with very dry skin at the age of 25-30, I recommend some light eye cream for young skin.

Use creams for your age group

The biggest mistake that, in my opinion, young girls sometimes make is using an anti-wrinkle cream intended for more mature skin 35-40+

Because products for mature skin, as a rule, contain a high percentage of lipids and components that stimulate collagen synthesis, which is completely unnecessary at a young age. At a young age, the skin is still quite capable and should work independently, and you only need to help it a little and protect it from the harmful effects of the environment.

By using cream for older ladies, you are doing your skin a disservice - because, on the one hand, you slow down its natural activity, and on the other hand, you begin to use up your skin’s resources ahead of time.

Of course, there is also such a thing as skin age, and it happens that as a result of stress or some other negative factors, the skin looks and feels unimportant - not its age.

In this case, you can really take the cream for the next age group and use it for an intensive course to quickly improve the condition of the skin, and then return to products for your age.

For example, at 25+ you can take a cream for women 30+, but not for women over forty.

Top 5 scientifically proven ways to rejuvenate your eyes

Wrinkles in the corners of the eyes often become a cause for frustration even in girls under 30 years of age.

Wrinkles in the corners of the eyes often become a cause for frustration even in girls under 30 years old, and the further you go, the more women, and sometimes men, worry about the condition of the skin around the eyelids. It is thinner and more delicate than on the rest of the surface of the face, and therefore it ages, as a rule, faster, becoming the first sign of mature age.

Fortunately, now all over the world, anti-aging, or the fight against aging, to preserve youth and health, has become one of the leading trends in science and medicine. Taking into account the successes already achieved in this fight, the World Health Organization even changed the age boundaries of such concepts as youth, middle age, old age, etc. Take note, according to the latest classification, age categories are defined as follows:

— Young age – 18 – 44 years

— Average age – 45 – 59 years

— Old age – 60 – 74 years

— Old age – 75 – 90 years

— Longevity – 90 years or more.

To maintain a blooming appearance and, first of all, enjoy the radiance of young skin around the eyes, experts advise using the following methods, the effectiveness of which is confirmed by scientific data and practical application.

1. We sleep correctly.

You can often hear from movie stars: they say, my best remedy for maintaining complexion and good skin condition is good sleep. No matter how trivial it may sound, the artists really are not lying, as confirmed by serious scientists and experts on the genetics of aging and longevity. The fact is that during night sleep our stem cells “work”: they “emerge” from their stem niches and are sent to those organs and tissues that need “repair”. Due to this, the entire body is restored, which is especially reflected on the skin. It is night sleep that “heals” our face, removing emerging wrinkles and rejuvenating, including the delicate, highly sensitive skin around the eyes.

By the way, keep in mind: the period from 12 am to 4 am is when melatonin production peaks. It is called the hormone of youth, since melatonin regulates the functioning of the entire endocrine system of the body, including the production of sex hormones, on which the condition of the skin greatly depends. Therefore, anti-aging experts advise trying to go to bed no later than 12 am.

2. Protect yourself from the sun.

And again, let us remember the same stars - many, not only in summer, but even in autumn and winter, do not part with sunglasses. And not just because it is a fashion accessory. Anti-aging dermatologists praise such fashionistas, since recent research clearly confirms that solar radiation is the leading factor causing premature aging of the skin, especially around the eyes (scientifically this is called photoaging). At one of the congresses on anti-aging medicine, data was announced: being in the sun for just 30 minutes triggers the process of collagen breakdown, the substance thanks to which our skin maintains its elasticity.

So, keeping sunglasses in your bag all year round is becoming a good practice for anyone who wants to keep their skin looking youthful for as long as possible.

3. Anti-aging nutrition: less sweets and more green vegetables.

A lot of attention is paid to healthy nutrition in anti-aging, since a lot of research has confirmed the ability of some foods to significantly accelerate aging, and others to slow it down and rejuvenate the body.

In particular, the aging effect of sweets abuse has been clearly proven. Moreover, on the skin, and especially around the eyes, this unpleasant effect manifests itself fastest and most clearly. The problem is that when sugar breaks down during digestion, glucose molecules are formed, which react with the proteins of the cells of our body. As a result, so-called accidental protein cross-links and other dangerous damage occur. At a young age, the body has enough strength to correct these problems, but the older we get, the more difficult it is to deal with “glucose” and other damage. They accumulate, age-related diseases develop, and the skin loses elasticity, becomes flabby and dry. If you limit yourself to sweets, the accumulation of harmful changes slows down, including the appearance of signs of skin aging.

In a word, “crow’s feet” around the eyes are more likely to be expected by those with a sweet tooth and appear more slowly in those who limit themselves to cakes and pastries.

As for other products, antiaging experts give first place to green vegetables, second to berries and fruits, third to fish and white meat, which are recommended to be eaten several times a week.

4. Creams with retinol

It is known that retinol, or vitamin A, helps strengthen blood vessels, improve blood supply to the skin and accelerate metabolic processes. Due to this, the complexion and general condition of the skin improves, and wrinkles are smoothed out. At the same time, it is important to keep in mind some limitations:

- as a rule, creams with retinol are recommended to be used only at night, since it increases sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation and during the day can contribute to increased photoaging of the skin;

— retinol is a very unstable substance, so creams based on it with a minimum of preservatives must be stored in the refrigerator. Because of this, it can be inconvenient to take them with you on vacation, business trips and other trips.

5. Hyaluronic acid

This is another component that has been proven to slow down aging and promote skin rejuvenation. Hyaluronic acid in its natural form is found in the intercellular space of the skin tissue, connecting collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for skin tone and elasticity. With age, the production of hyaluronic acid in the body decreases, and this is one of the main reasons for skin aging.

Blefarogel 1 can be bought at the pharmacy

Modern cosmetics with hyaluronic acid, such as eye gel Blefarogel 1, help replenish this valuable component. Experts recommend using it for anti-aging massage in the morning and/or evening, applying it to your fingertips and making circular movements around the eyes. This massage not only improves blood circulation and promotes better absorption of hyaluronic acid, but also helps get rid of dry eyes and relieve the feeling of fatigue. And as a hygiene product from the same series, you can use Blepharolosion, which cleanses the excretory ducts of the glands at the edges of the eyelids, normalizes their secretion and increases turgor, that is, the elasticity of the skin.

Skin care around the eyes at 30-40 years old

At the age of 30-40 years, I usually recommend a cream with peptides for home care - at this age such products usually give very good results.

Of the cosmetics brands I work with, I like Eye Contour Optimal Cream for eye contour from Algologie.

This cream perfectly smooths out small expression wrinkles, activates collagen synthesis and reduces the depth of pronounced wrinkles, and also has good draining properties, ensures the prevention of swelling and dark circles under the eyes. In general, it provides everything that is needed at this age and many of my clients like it.

However, cream with muscle relaxants cannot be used constantly, because in this case normal microcirculation and tissue trophism will be disrupted, and over time this will have a bad effect on the condition of your skin.

Therefore, after a course of cream with peptides, it is advisable to take some other cream for the skin around the eyes. For example Algologie Eye Contour Cream.

Anti-bag care

Bags under the eyes are a common “bonus” of adult life. Many people experience this during their student years due to anxiety and chronic lack of sleep. The situation does not change when you go back to work - days spent at the computer put a lot of strain on the eyes. The solution here is simple: protect yourself from overwork and lack of sleep.

Swelling can also be caused by more serious reasons: pathology of the urinary system, hormonal imbalance and many others. Before dealing with bags under the eyes, it is worth determining their cause. If it is of a medical nature, then you will have to get rid of the swelling with the help of medications.

When working at the computer, adjust the brightness to a low level or wear special glasses.

When it comes to cosmetic products, give preference to creams that are saturated with oxygen and also rich in plant components. Well, if the cause of bags under the eyes is a simple lack of sleep, which at the moment cannot be eliminated, you can simply cover up the dark circles with concealer.

Skin care around the eyes after 40 years

And after the age of 40, you can already use almost all the heavy artillery of modern cosmetology to prolong the youth of your skin.

Those who have watched my previous videos probably already know that today my favorite among eye care products is a cream with biointegral cells from Cellcosmet.

But any cream, even your favorite one, needs to be periodically alternated with other products. Therefore, after Cellcosmet, I used Algologie’s Lift & Lumiere Intense Eye Balm for some time.

This balm is designed for intensive anti-aging care for the skin around the eyes after 40 - it stimulates collagen synthesis, reduces puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.

In addition, this balm contains micropearl, which makes wrinkles under the eyes less noticeable and gives the skin around the eyes a slight glow.

This cream helped me maintain the results achieved after using Cellcosmet. I also liked that this balm smoothes out well or makes less noticeable those age-related changes that cannot be completely eliminated.

Skin care around the eyes after 50 years

After the age of 50, you can use almost all the anti-aging products that I have already mentioned.

However, you need to understand that creams with peptides or biointegral cells are most effective before the age of 45-50 years. And at 50-60 years old, it is unfortunately no longer possible to achieve the same result as at 35-40.

However, in any case, a good cream for aging skin will help improve the condition of the skin around the eyes and make some age-related changes visually less noticeable.

Home treatments

If the budget does not allow the use of expensive creams or procedures, they can be replaced with folk remedies. Eye compresses should be at a comfortable temperature. You need to devote 10-15 minutes to the procedure, and absolute relaxation is required.

Spend time lying on the couch and think about something pleasant. Products that can be used for compress:

  1. Potatoes and sour cream (1 tsp sour cream per medium potato). The potatoes need to be crushed and mixed thoroughly with sour cream.
  2. Horsetail decoction. The infusion is prepared at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon of herb per 250 ml. boiled water. Let the mixture sit until it reaches room temperature, then strain through cheesecloth.
  3. Chamomile ice. Pour the chamomile infusion into ice cube trays. Use cubes to rub the skin around your eyes daily.

Additional care

For additional home care for the skin around the eyes, you can use various lotions or masks.

I usually recommend using eye masks after 30, but lotions can be used at any age if you need to relieve redness, fatigue, reduce puffiness or dark circles under the eyes.

Of the commonly available home remedies, green tea lotions work well for this task. Simply soak cotton pads in cool green tea, place on your eyes and leave for 10 minutes.

And also do not forget to use sunglasses on a sunny day. Because if you constantly squint in bright sunlight, this will significantly contribute to the appearance of facial wrinkles.

Don't forget your sunglasses

Causes of swelling under the eyes

One of the most common problems in the eye area is swelling. But before you start fighting edema, it is advisable to find out the reason for its appearance. I would divide these reasons into three main groups.

Mistakes in skin care around the eyes

Often the cause of swelling is quite commonplace - improper care of the skin around the eyes. I will name only the most common mistakes.

  1. The cream is applied immediately before bedtime. Don't forget that eye cream should be applied no later than an hour before bedtime. And if you are generally prone to swelling, then it is better to give preference to gels.
  2. Too much cream is applied. Do not forget that the tissues around the eyes are already characterized by increased hydrophilicity, that is, a tendency to retain water, so there is no need to aggravate the situation with a thick layer of cream.
  3. Using cream that is too rich. Fat retains water, but if you use an age-inappropriate or too greasy cream, it is quite possible that instead of optimal hydration you will get swelling.

For the same reason, you should not use face cream to care for the area around the eyes. This cream is not suitable for the delicate skin around the eyes and therefore can often cause skin irritation or swelling.

Avoid using eye cream for at least a couple of days. If the swelling goes away, then you need to reconsider and adjust your care. And if they don’t go away, then the cause of your swelling is something else.

Unhealthy Lifestyle

Eating large amounts of salty food, alcohol, even just eating too much or having a late dinner can trigger the appearance of edema.

If you take proper care of the skin around your eyes, have a more or less healthy lifestyle, but still have swelling, this is a reason to consult a doctor.

Health problems

It is possible that your swelling is a symptom of some disease. In this case, cosmetics or salon procedures that help eliminate swelling are only auxiliary. But first, you need to look for and treat the underlying cause.

General rules for applying eye contour cream

Regardless of which cosmetic product was chosen as an anti-aging product, there are a number of rules that must be followed.

  1. Firstly, eye contour creams must be applied to clean and dry skin;
  2. Secondly, the cream should be applied in the morning or before bed. It is very important that after applying the cream it is absorbed. It is even better if after the procedure no cosmetics are applied to the skin for several hours;
  3. Thirdly, there are no problems at all with applying cream to the lower eyelid, but the upper eyelid will require special attention. After applying the cream to it, you should close your eyes, do not squint and remain in this state until the cream is completely absorbed.

How to get rid of bags under the eyes (hernia of the eyelids)

It is very important not to confuse swelling around the eyes with hernias of the upper and lower eyelids.

Hernias are accumulations of fat in areas under the skin, but to the average person, swelling and hernias may look similar, although they are completely different problems and therefore require different approaches.

Therefore, if bags under your eyes bother you, make an appointment with a plastic surgeon. In reality, hernias under the eyes can only be eliminated with the help of blepharoplasty.

But if you are not ready for surgical intervention, there is no need to worry: such hernias do not pose any danger to your life and health.

Just know that there is no point in buying expensive creams for bags under the eyes, much less applying potatoes, cucumbers or tea bags to your eyes - in the case of hernias, these products are like a poultice for the dead.

Even salon procedures in this case can only slow down the process of hernia formation and only visually improve the situation slightly.

Stage 2: swelling

Puffiness under the eyes is a complex topic because its occurrence is often associated with pathophysiology, kidney disease, or excessive consumption of high-protein dairy products. Depending on the cause of the diagnosed problem, medical or cosmetic methods are used.

If the swelling is associated with organ dysfunction, you will have to be treated by a specialized specialist, for example, renal edema is the prerogative of a urologist, and endocrine disorders are eliminated by an endocrinologist.

If swelling is associated with aging and sagging tissue, then the most popular and effective treatment in aesthetic medicine will be mesotherapy or carboxytherapy, which improve blood and lymph circulation.

Carboxytherapy is a stimulating procedure in which, under the influence of carbon dioxide, restoration and regenerative processes in tissues are stimulated and the toxins accumulated in the skin are quickly eliminated. The skin after the procedure becomes healthy and restored. Carboxytherapy effectively rejuvenates the area around the eyes, as it has anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effects.

However, if the swelling is due to a fatty hernia, you should see a plastic surgeon for blepharoplasty. Now it can be done without a scalpel and general anesthesia - using the laser method.
