In recent years, beauty salons have increasingly begun to offer their clients atraumatic facial cleansing. Essentially, this is a superficial chemical peeling performed using various low concentration acids. In most cases, fruit acids are used. The technique involves exposure only at the level of the epidermis.

What's the point?

Atraumatic cleaning is not a new procedure. It has been used for many years. This is a gentle way to cleanse the face without traumatizing the top layer of the skin, allowing you to get rid of keratinized particles, excess sebum, and other surface contaminants. The procedure is carried out on previously cleansed and steamed skin. The fruit and other acids used extremely delicately cleanse pores and exfoliate dead cells. As a result, skin respiration improves, local blood circulation and metabolic processes are normalized, the skin is evened out, blackheads and inflammation disappear.

Atraumatic cleansing is a gentle peeling

The duration of the procedure is 20-40 minutes, but the effect of cosmetic preparations continues for about 2 days.

Mechanism of action

When the skin is steamed, the pores open, allowing the active components of the acids used to penetrate down to the deep layers of the epidermis. They lead to a weakening of intercellular connections, thereby promoting exfoliation (exfoliation) of keratinized particles. At the same time, under the influence of chemical agents, impurities soften and the structure of sebum changes, which allows you to thoroughly clean the ducts of the sebaceous glands and get rid of superficial milia and comedones. A certain part of the dirt clogged into the pores is finally dissolved during the procedure.

The effect of acids is also to stimulate the process of cell proliferation at the level of the basal layer of the skin, as a result of which the cellular composition of the skin is rejuvenated.

The synthesis of elastin and collagen fibers is activated, the skin becomes more elastic, shallow wrinkles are smoothed out.

Due to the high content of natural moisturizing factor in new young cells, a normal level of skin moisture is maintained.

!The result of all these processes is rejuvenated, moisturized skin.

The essence of the procedure for deep atraumatic facial cleansing

The name “atraumatic cleaning” speaks for itself. The purpose of this procedure is maximum delicacy, which in some cases is very important and necessary. For example, careful manipulation of skin tissue is mandatory for sensitive skin, rosacea, and pregnancy.

Deep atraumatic facial cleansing is performed using a complex of special cosmetic preparations that loosen the epidermis, exfoliate the stratum corneum, and then dissolve impurities, remove sebaceous deposits, and eliminate acne.

The main difference between atraumatic facial cleansing and other similar manipulations is the absence of mechanical impact on the skin. The procedure is performed without the use of tools and devices. Sometimes, with an atraumatic method, ultrasonic treatment is used, which does not injure tissue. Cosmetics do not have hard particles and practically do not contain aggressive elements.

Important! Speaking about deep atraumatic facial cleansing, one cannot fail to mention that this is a mild chemical peeling, which involves thorough preparation of the skin and comprehensive care after the manipulations are completed. During the procedure, the skin is not subject to negative influence.

Steaming the epidermis leads to the opening of pores and the penetration of active acid components into the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, intercellular connections are weakened, which promotes exfoliation (or exfoliation) of keratinized particles.

At the same time, chemicals soften impurities and change the structure of sebum, thereby facilitating thorough cleansing of sebaceous ducts and the removal of superficial milia and comedones.

The procedure allows you to completely dissolve some of the dirt that clogs the pores.

  • Acids stimulate cell proliferation in the basal layer of the epidermis, resulting in rejuvenation of the cellular composition of the skin.
  • The synthesis of elastin and collagen fibers becomes more intense, resulting in increased skin elasticity and smooth out small wrinkles.
  • The renewed cells have a high moisturizing factor, which allows you to maintain a normal level of skin tissue hydration.

The effect obtained as a result of these processes is renewed, young and moisturized skin.

Thanks to its delicate effects, atraumatic cleaning has no contraindications and is suitable for everyone. The technique is used as a basic or preparatory procedure before more aggressive manipulations.

This type of cleansing is most useful for those who:

  • thin, sensitive skin;
  • rosacea;
  • predisposition to the formation of keloid scars;
  • post-acne;
  • comedones and stubborn acne.

For teenagers and pregnant women, it is enough to perform only atraumatic cleaning. There are no restrictions (by age, gender, season). Therefore, this delicate procedure can be considered universal.

Acids used

The choice of drugs is a very important point. The effectiveness of the procedure depends on it. A specific product is chosen depending on the condition of the skin and the problems being solved.

For superficial peeling, lactic, tartaric, malic, citric and other acids are used. Lactic acid is obtained from blueberries and sour milk, tartaric acid - from wine or grapes, malic acid - from apples, as well as sugar maple, citric acid is found in pineapples and all citrus fruits.

Fruit acids are also used for cleaning.

  • For problem skin with excess sebum production, salicylic acid is the best option. It perfectly removes mechanical impurities, regulates the functioning of the sebaceous glands, and has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect.
  • Glycolic acid is one of the most effective cleansers. Its molecules are the smallest in size compared to the molecules of other acids. This ensures better penetration of the substance into the layers of the skin and, accordingly, achieves a better cleansing and exfoliating effect.
  • Citric acid is a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes the effects of free radicals accumulated in the skin. It also has antibacterial properties and helps remove age spots.
  • Malic acid stimulates collagen production, which accelerates the process of skin regeneration. It has antioxidant properties, protects the skin from the effects of negative external factors, and fills it with valuable microelements.
  • Lactic acid intensely moisturizes the skin.
  • Tartaric acid has whitening properties and effectively removes age spots.
  • Malic acid accelerates recovery processes in cells and improves their nutrition.
  • Retinoic acid (tretinoin) is highly effective in treating acne. This result is achieved by normalizing sebum levels, reducing the thickness of the stratum corneum and anti-inflammatory properties.

Mixtures based on several acids are effective in solving complex problems. Vitamins are often added to them. Most often it is vitamin A (retinol) or vitamin E (tocopherol). To achieve a lifting effect and deeper hydration of the skin, hyaluronic acid is often added to the composition for atraumatic cleansing. Arbutin also provides a good moisturizing effect. It perfectly complements the action of lactic acid. The combination of lactic acid and arbutin also helps smooth the skin and is suitable for use after acne.

!Today, atraumatic facial cleansing with Israeli Holy Land preparations is very popular. This is a line of professional cosmetics that has been on the market for more than 25 years. According to experts, it is optimal for problem skin with severe acne.

Types and features of holding

It should be noted that the term “atraumatic cleansing” does not mean a specific procedure, but a whole area of cosmetic techniques that have a delicate effect, as a result of which the integrity of the skin is not compromised, they are not damaged and are not exposed to high temperatures. The most popular and frequently practiced procedures of this kind are:

  • Ultrasonic cleaning.
  • Vacuum cleaning.
  • Surface dry cleaning.

Ultrasonic cleaning

A procedure for cleansing facial skin using ultrasonic vibrations. These are invisible and inaudible waves for humans, capable of penetrating deep into soft tissues and destroying keratinized cells, fat, sebaceous secretions, and comedones. Distinctive features of this technique are the following characteristics:

  • Minimal pain when performing.
  • No traces or side effects from the intervention.
  • Short exposure time (up to 20 minutes).
  • Additional rejuvenating effect achieved by stimulating collagen production and cell regeneration.

The procedure is carried out without anesthesia and involves three stages: cleansing (makeup removal), the treatment itself and additional moisturizing of the skin upon completion of the manipulations.

Superficial chemical peeling (cleaning)

To carry out the procedure, non-concentrated compounds or AHA acids are used, which have the most delicate effect. Let's talk in more detail about this technique using the example of cleaning using popular Holy Land cosmetics.

Products from the popular Israeli brand are used to eliminate surface impurities, dissolve fats, sebaceous secretions and blackheads that clog pores. In addition, it promotes:

  • Rejuvenation of the skin due to the destruction of diseased and dead cells.
  • Improvement of health due to the destruction of pathogenic bacteria that cause the formation of acne and inflammatory processes.
  • Correction of the activity of the sebaceous glands, elimination of increased fat content.
  • Reduce scars and pigmentation.

Compositions applied to the skin of the face help dissolve impurities and destroy bacteria, burn the upper, keratinized layer of cells, increase oxygen access to the deep layers of the dermis, and normalize internal processes.

The procedure lasts an hour and a half, during which the patient feels a slight tingling or burning sensation. The session is divided into several stages:

  • Preparation. It involves removing makeup and degreasing the skin.
  • Application of the active substance (the type and time of exposure is determined depending on the individual characteristics of the patient).
  • Removing the composition.
  • Applying nourishing and soothing masks.

Most often, multifruit peels are used for atraumatic cleansing of Holy Land. They contain fruit and light organic acids, vitamin concentrates, proteins and enzymes.

Vacuum cleaning

The skin cleansing procedure is carried out by creating an area of negative pressure. Thanks to this, impurities are drawn out from the skin pores, blackheads and sebaceous plugs are destroyed. Among other things, the vacuum improves blood circulation and removes stagnant fluid. It should be taken into account that if the manipulations are performed incorrectly, stretching of the skin is possible.

Before the procedure, problem areas are cleaned and treated with contact gel, then cleansing is carried out, after which soothing or moisturizing masks can be used.

  • The use of fruit acids often provokes an allergic reaction, and in some cases quite severe.
  • Under the influence of acids, exacerbation of dermatological diseases is possible.

You may be allergic to acids when cleaning

Skin preparation

Before atraumatic facial cleansing, the cosmetologist examines the patient’s skin to determine its type and identify problems, after which he selects a specific product. The day before the session, a skin test is performed to detect a possible allergic reaction. A small amount of peeling mixture is applied to the elbow bend and the standard procedure is maintained. Over the next day, observe the skin reaction. The allergy manifests itself in the form of severe redness, burning, itching, which persists for several hours.

If it is impossible to clearly interpret the results of a local test, it is recommended to cancel the procedure or repeat the test on a small area of facial skin. To avoid possible complications, it is better to apply the mixture to the cheek area, since the thickness of the skin in this part is greater than on other areas of the face.

Stages of the session

During atraumatic cleansing, a whole range of special products are used, which are applied to the face in a certain order. First, the skin is treated with cosmetics to better open the pores, after which they proceed directly to the cleaning itself using low-impact, mild mixtures that help completely cleanse the pores of all types of impurities.

The procedure includes the following steps:

Stage 1

Makeup remover Carry out using products appropriate to your skin type.

Stage 2

Cleansing. They use liquid soap and gels that effectively remove dirt and dissolve comedones. These measures are necessary to open the pores and better penetrate the active components of the acids.

Stage 3

Peeling. It must be emphasized that this is a very important stage of atraumatic facial cleansing. It helps smooth the skin texture, soften the stratum corneum, and remove dead cells. Peeling prepares the skin for deep cleansing.

Remove makeup before cleaning

Stage 4

Treatment of the skin with a special warming composition based on a lipolytic solution and lotion. The lotion ingredients promote deep tissue heating, activate local blood circulation, thereby improving the penetration of the active components of the peeling mixture into the skin layers. The products used disinfect the skin and produce a slight anesthetic effect.

Stage 5

Applying a mask with a low concentration of fruit acid prepares the skin for further manipulations with higher concentration acids.

Stage 6

The cleaning itself. A layer of peeling mixture with a high acid content is applied to the skin. Under its influence, the pores open even more, and a vaporization effect is achieved. After this, a second layer of composition with a higher acid concentration is applied. Under its action, the upper stratum corneum of the skin warms up and softens, sebaceous plugs dissolve.

Stage 7

Applying lotion with antiseptic properties. It is carried out to prevent skin infection.

Stage 8

Applying a mask to tighten pores, moisturize and quickly restore the skin.

Stage 9

Applying protective nourishing cream.

How is facial cleansing done?

The procedure lasts about an hour, no more. It is carried out in several stages. The first stage is removing makeup, cleansing the skin of cosmetic residues and impurities. Next, the skin needs to be softened. A special product is applied to the skin of the face, thereby softening comedones and soothing the skin. At the same time, this product disinfects the skin.

This is followed by the peeling stage. It is soft and there is no painful sensation. The drug contains a small proportion of fruit acid, due to which redness of the skin does not occur.

The stage of opening the pores is carried out by heating with a special mixture and lotions. These drugs are safe, so infection is excluded. The mixture dissolves comedones, and the lotion has a restorative effect. After this stage, a face mask is applied. It is chosen based on skin type, but its main function is to tighten pores after the cleansing procedure.

To relieve irritation, a soothing gel is applied that regenerates cells. To restore protective functions, it is necessary to apply a cream that will moisturize and restore the skin. And for protection, a sunscreen or powder will be applied to the skin. There are creams that combine all these properties.

This cleansing normalizes blood circulation, carries out renewal at the cellular level, and helps smooth out fine wrinkles. The skin surface becomes smoother, and small blackheads disappear. The session does not last long, but the drugs used will still have an effect for about two days.

Ultrasonic cleaning

Atraumatic facial cleansing with ultrasound does not injure the skin of the face, so there is no need for a rehabilitation period. Ultrasound works smoothly. It has the ability to penetrate deep inside and break down dirt. This ultrasonic cleansing is suitable for dry and oily skin. And the secretion of the sebaceous glands is reduced due to exposure to ultrasound.

After such cleansing, the skin does not become very oily for a few more weeks, so the pores are not so clogged. And it can be done infrequently. If the surface is very dirty and there are a lot of comedones, ultrasonic cleaning should be done in conjunction with manual cleaning.

Contraindications include skin problems (infections), pregnancy, use of a pacemaker, and recent surgical exposure to the skin of the face.

Galvanic cleaning

This type of cleansing is good for oily skin. The action of microcurrents helps to loosen the upper structure of the skin and remove blackheads. The procedure is carried out in two stages. At the first stage, the skin is cleansed, and at the second, the pores are tightened and the surface of the skin is leveled. Thus, fat content decreases, the shape of the face is evened out, the skin becomes more toned, and wrinkles are reduced.

You should not cleanse if you have problems with the cardiovascular system, cancer, during pregnancy, or with skin diseases.

Vacuum cleaning

Well suited for those with normal skin, as well as oily skin with shallow blackheads. It is carried out under the influence of a vacuum apparatus. It draws out impurities from the pores. It is not possible to deeply cleanse the skin, so this type of cleansing is combined with other methods. It is not used for rosacea, rosacea, dermatoses and vascular fragility.

Dry cleaning

The advantage is that it can be used on all skin types. However, this type does not provide deep cleansing. Therefore, it is used in combination with other types of cleansing on not very dirty skin in the absence of sebaceous comedones. Contraindications include severe sensitivity, acne, scratches and cuts.

Cleaning Holy Land

Cosmetics from the Israeli company Holy Land are designed specifically for caring for problem skin. Atraumatic facial cleansing is carried out with the sequential use of a complex of Holy Land preparations:

Holy Land cosmetics

  • An effective cleanser, Double Action Soap, helps soften the top layer of open comedones, while soothing and disinfecting the skin.
  • Alpha Complex peeling composition is based on mild fruit acids. The company produces two products that differ in acid concentration. Alpha Complex peeling has a concentration of 8%, which ensures absolute painlessness and a high degree of safety of the procedure. After cleansing, there is no redness or peeling of the skin.
  • A-NOX Face Lotion - activates local blood circulation, promoting rapid heating of the skin. It also has a bactericidal effect.
  • The special composition of A-NOX Solution is used to open pores. Its action is based on the ability to dissolve sebum and comedones accumulated inside the sebaceous ducts. Kills pathogenic microorganisms, provides an anti-inflammatory effect, and prevents skin infections.
  • Aseptic masks - applied after cleaning. The special composition has pronounced absorbent properties, effectively cleanses, soothes and disinfects the skin. The masks contain white clay, zinc, allantoin. The company produces several types of masks. They are selected taking into account the characteristics of the patient’s skin.
  • A-NOX Hydratant Cream is a special moisturizing cream. It is applied at the final stage of the procedure to quickly restore the lipid layer of the skin. This is very important because cleaning removes the natural protective layer.

According to experts, atraumatic facial cleansing using Holy Land cosmetics is highly effective in treating acne and helps solve the main problems of oily skin. An important advantage of the procedure is the ability to carry it out without the use of a vaporizer. Warming up tissues, softening contaminants and opening pores is done with the help of professional preparations that provide effects similar to vaporization. Other advantages of Holy Land cosmetics are the possibility of local treatment of individual areas and versatility: the products can be used to cleanse different skin types: dry, hypersensitive, prone to rosacea.

Expert opinion

Cosmetologists advise carrying out facial cleansing in special conditions at an appointment with a specialist. But if you have experience working with acids and analogue components for peeling, you can carry out such procedures at home. Moreover, experts advise using Holy Land products for home facial cleansing.

This is an Israeli brand specializing in the production of care products based on natural ingredients. The manufacturer has taken care of comprehensive facial skin care, so they have released a whole series of products to cleanse and restore the beauty of the skin. It includes:

  • tonics;
  • gels;
  • creams;
  • masks;
  • peelings.

Also, despite the high cost and popularity of the brand, cosmetologists insist on mandatory rapid testing before using the product. This is done simply: just apply a pea of peeling or cream to your wrist or elbow, rub, and after 10-15 minutes monitor the changes. If the allergic reaction does not make itself felt, the product is suitable for your skin type.

Another advantage of non-traumatic facial cleansing is the limited contraindications and the absence of a rehabilitation period. But cosmetologists are not silent about the short duration of the effect. Also, this method will not solve the problems of people with deep pores who need additional manual intervention.

Achieved effect

The procedure helps to noticeably smooth the skin texture, improves its appearance, and makes the skin velvety and soft.

The action of the acids used during cleansing continues for 48 hours after the session, due to which sebaceous plugs and other impurities are completely dissolved, pockets of inflammation disappear, and the skin is thoroughly cleansed and healed.

After cleansing, the skin texture is evened out.

!The effectiveness of atraumatic cleansing is also due to its positive effect on the synthesis of elastin and collagen, due to which small wrinkles disappear, the face is smoothed and rejuvenated.

Possible complications

Due to the low concentration of acids used, the procedure causes almost no unwanted effects or side effects.

  • In rare cases, irritation, peeling, prolonged redness, and allergic reactions may occur. As a rule, such phenomena occur due to increased skin sensitivity or are the result of individual intolerance to one or more components of the mixtures used.
  • If contraindications are ignored, dermatological diseases may worsen.
  • Insufficient competence of a cosmetologist can lead to skin injury and minor burns (for example, when using acids of too high a concentration).

Carrying out the procedure yourself

For atraumatic facial cleansing at home, salicylic, citric, lactic, malic and a number of other acids are used.

Using apple cider vinegar as a source of malic acid has a good effect. It has a pronounced antibacterial and antiviral effect, restores the protective properties of the skin, deeply cleanses pores, and helps eliminate acne.

You can do the cleaning yourself

You can make your own apple peeling. Several recipes are used for this. For example, apple cider vinegar is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:8, lavender color and cloves are added and infused in a dark place. The mixture will be ready for use in a week. There is a faster way to prepare a composition for home peeling: you need to mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and honey, add a teaspoon of fine salt. The composition is ready for use. You can also use ready-made peelings for the procedure.

Home cleaning sequence

  1. Makeup is removed from the face.
  2. The skin is cleansed using gel or foam.
  3. Degreasing is carried out using alcohol lotion.
  4. The face is wiped with a toner appropriate to your skin type.
  5. To improve the result, the skin can be steamed. To do this, you need to treat it with a stream of hot water for 1-2 minutes or simply apply a hot, damp towel to your face and hold for 30-60 seconds. The procedure is repeated until the skin is well steamed.
  6. Apply the peeling mixture to the face. You can use a fan brush for this purpose.
  7. After 10 minutes, neutralize with a mild alkaline agent.

It is convenient to use gommage peelings at home. They are applied in a thin layer, avoiding the area around the eyes. Treatment of the face begins with the chin, gradually moving upward. The action is performed in a circular motion with the tips of the middle and ring fingers, following the direction of the massage lines.

After the composition dries (after about 2 minutes), roll it into pellets with light movements, after which the remaining peeling is removed with warm water, and the face is treated with a tonic and a nourishing cream is applied.

The easiest method of self-atraumatic cleaning involves using a linen or cotton napkin soaked in a peeling composition. It is applied to previously cleansed and steamed facial skin and left for 2-3 minutes. This manipulation is repeated several times:

  • for normal skin – 3-4 times;
  • for oily skin – 5-6 times;
  • for sensitive and dry skin – 2-3 times.

The final stage of the procedure is washing with warm water and a light massage with a damp towel to remove any remaining mixture, after which a moisturizer is applied to the cleansed face.

Home cleaning can be done 2 times a week. For dry skin, one procedure every 7-10 days is sufficient. The course includes 10-15 sessions.

The essence of the procedure

The essence of the procedure is to soften and cleanse the upper layer of the dermis from various contaminants, excess sebaceous secretions, blackheads and dead cells. Penetrating into cells, acids trigger renewal and regeneration processes, which has a slight rejuvenating effect. After the procedure, the skin instantly becomes fresh, moisturized and tightened.

The bactericidal effect of such cleaning allows you to eliminate existing comedones and prevent the appearance of new ones. The skin becomes clearer and healthier. A skin cleansing session takes no more than 45 minutes, and the effect (depending on the condition and type of skin) lasts up to six months.

There is no need for special skin care after atraumatic facial cleansing, since this procedure does not cause peeling, irritation or redness. Facial cleansing using the atraumatic method takes place in several stages using a fairly large number of special products.

Simple procedure protocol

  • The skin is cleansed from visible impurities.
  • The facial skin is wiped with a warming lotion, paying attention to problem areas.
  • Peeling is applied in a thin layer. As a rule, a glycolic composition is used, which softens the skin well, opens pores and dissolves surface impurities.
  • A softening solution is applied, which allows you to remove all the contents of the pores along with dead cells.
  • In order to soothe the skin, enzyme peeling is done.
  • A mask that matches your skin type will restore and moisturize your skin.
  • Disinfectant lotion will dry out the rashes and remove any remaining oily secretions.
  • Protective powder applied to the skin will complete the recovery process.

Result:

  • Cleaning once a month will prevent the appearance of acne and comedones.
  • Cleaning once every three months will restore the metabolic processes of oily skin types.
  • Cleaning once every 6 months will prevent early aging of dry skin.

Reviews

“I did an atraumatic procedure for the first time. Of course, there were doubts about its effectiveness. Fortunately, they were not confirmed. I'm very pleased with the result. The procedure is completely painless, even pleasant. It is fundamentally different from mechanical cleansing, during which the face becomes very red, injured, and marks often remain. This technique does not damage the skin at all (hence the name). The only consequence is slight redness, but this disappears after a couple of hours. The face looks refreshed, rejuvenated, pores have become invisible, blackheads have disappeared. I will definitely complete the course.”

— Daria, 35 years old.

“I had atraumatic facial cleansing using popular Holy Land cosmetics. Judging by the reviews on the Internet, they provide complete safety and deep cleansing of the skin. The procedure is absolutely painless and does not even cause discomfort. For me, the only negative is the duration of cleaning. The session took more than 2 hours, during which various cosmetics were gradually applied to my skin: lotion, peeling sheet, mask, cream. They all have their own purpose: opening pores, softening their contents, cleansing the skin, narrowing pores. In theory, the warming lotion should have caused a burning sensation, but there was none: I felt only warmth. Immediately after the session I did not notice any changes: neither positive nor negative. The face looked refreshed, but this also happens after a simple clay mask. In the evening the skin became covered with spots, but, fortunately, they quickly passed. In the morning I finally noticed the effect: my face was smoother, my skin became soft and velvety, and my color improved.”

— Ksenia, 32 years old.

“I want to share my experience of atraumatic cleansing. My skin is not very problematic. There are black spots here and there, but they are not that noticeable. After consulting with a cosmetologist, they chose this type of cleansing for me. First, the face was cleansed with a scrub, then a warming composition was applied. It warms and stings a little - there are no other sensations. After this, a peeling based on whey was applied. At the end of the session, a soothing mask was applied to the face. The procedure is very pleasant, but I definitely can’t say that I’m shocked by the result. Perhaps I just had too high expectations. For all this pleasure I paid 2000 rubles. I had the cleaning done in one of the salons in St. Petersburg.”

— Irina, 37 years old.
