Roman nose in men and women: cause of appearance, rhinoplasty

A long nose with a hump is called Roman. For men in ancient times, it symbolized courage. Roman warriors, who knew how to attack the enemy and repel his attacks, had exactly this type of nose. Such people are believed to have clear thinking and are able to make bold decisions.

Nowadays, a long nose, and even one with a hump, unfortunately, is not very attractive to both girls and men. Having such a problem, many people are dissatisfied with their appearance, they do not like to be photographed, especially in profile, because when looking at their photographs they get another reason to be dissatisfied with their appearance.

Indications for male rhinoplasty

Medical:

  • narrowing of the nasal passages;
  • incorrectly positioned septum (curvature, displacement);
  • violation of nasal breathing;
  • abnormalities in the structure of the nasal passages, contributing to the development of rhinitis.

Aesthetic imperfections:

  • hump;
  • wide nose;
  • saddle-shaped retraction;
  • a long nose;
  • curvature;
  • ugly tip (hook-shaped, too sharp, fleshy, etc.).

Rhinoplasty at ON CLINIC - a quality solution to the problem

Preparing for surgery

Preoperative preparation includes standard laboratory blood tests, ECG, CT, consultations with a plastic surgeon, anesthesiologist and some other specialized specialists. If you are taking any medications, be sure to tell your doctor in advance. Avoid alcohol 2-4 weeks before plastic surgery. 5-8 hours before the intervention you should not eat or drink.

Selection of operation and its implementation

Open rhinoplasty is performed for complex congenital anomalies and deformities of the nasal bones. During this process, the doctor cuts the skin on the nose in the area of the septum between the nostrils and in the area of the lateral folds. Closed male rhinoplasty is less traumatic and allows you to change cartilage and bone tissue without additional damage. During this operation, the doctor makes incisions in the nasal cavity, so the stitches are not visible. Non-surgical male rhinoplasty is performed to correct minor defects. Typically, implants (fillers), absorbable drugs or threads are used for this. This type of correction gives a temporary effect, and also has a risk of scarring and/or rupture of the threads, migration of the injected substance. Therefore, this type of rhinoplasty is not very popular among men.

After operation

Men need to stay in the clinic for some time after rhinoplasty. It is important to follow all medical instructions. In the first days, pain, tissue swelling, and nasal congestion may persist. Analgesics are usually prescribed to relieve pain. On the 10th day, the bandage is removed. The final result can be assessed only 1.5-2 months after the operation.

Price for rhinoplasty

The cost of rhinoplasty depends on many factors, including how the surgery is performed. The price is also related to the type of anesthesia and the complexity of the surgery. The final cost of nose correction can be found out from the clinic surgeon after a preliminary consultation. Below you can find prices for rhinoplasty in Moscow, reviews from men, and also look at photographs.

Rhinoplasty for men. Photos for and against.

“Male plastic surgery is a widespread phenomenon today. This is due both to the changes that have occurred in society and to the requirements, including for appearance, that it makes. The understanding has come that a person’s desire to change his appearance is not a whim. After all, modern society’s demands on appearance are very high, and plastic surgery is in many ways a way to get rid of complexes and associated psychological problems. So, today we perform every sixth plastic surgery in our clinic on men, this is about 15% of the total volume of operations. Just 2-3 years ago there was no talk of such figures,” says , a plastic surgeon with extensive experience, Doctor of Medical Sciences. Certified Plastic Surgeon, Doctor of Medical Sciences - Deciding on plastic surgery is not an easy thing, deciding on rhinoplasty is doubly difficult. After all, the nose is the central part of the face, any changes, any intervention must be as correct and professional as possible. For our employee, who nevertheless decided to have a nose job, choosing a surgeon took a lot of time; he had to go to consultations and get to know many doctors. It turned out that male rhinoplasty is still a rare phenomenon in Moscow. After all, male nose surgery has many differences from female rhinoplasty, and the point here, first of all, is the aesthetics of the nose itself. “The ideal nasolabial angle in men is less than in women, as a rule, it is somewhere around 90-100 degrees, the bridge of the nose is without deflection and is quite straight, sometimes you need to leave a slight hump in order to maintain the naturalness and proportions of the face,” share your secrets with us . He is one of the few surgeons in Moscow who undertakes male rhinoplasty. Our photojournalist managed to obtain permission from the surgeon and enter the holy of holies - the operating room where the rhinoplasty operation was performed in order to record the main moments of the operation for you. Next, we provide you with a photo report of the operation with comments.

When examining the profile of the patient, vertical elongation of the nose was revealed. Horizontally, in the area of the tip of the nose, the length is also increased, the tip itself is lowered. The bridge of the nose is high and protrudes above the level of the tip of the nose.

The pyramid of the nose is curved due to the displacement of the nasal septum. The tip of the nose is widened, the wings are asymmetrical.

The operation was performed in an open manner. The patient had previously undergone surgery on the nasal septum, but it is clear that the surgeons affected the nasal tissue much deeper and injured the wing cartilages. The cartilage on the right is damaged in the area of the lateral crura, the left cartilage is hypertrophied, and there are no domes of cartilage on the right.

During the operation, remains of the cartilage of the nasal dorsum were found.

Nasal septum: damage to the caudal part of the nasal septum is visible. It is installed in a central position. At this point, autocartilaginous grafts have already been collected, which will serve as implants in place of the missing cartilage.

The tip of the nose is “assembled” and modeled, including using cartilage autografts taken from the nasal septum.

Rhinoplasty is an operation that is of particular importance for men. Participation in some sports, military service, etc. significantly increase the risk of nasal injury and changes in its configuration. In addition, it is the nose that gives a man’s profile character. A correctly outlined beautiful profile makes the face not only courageous, but also attractive. The classic European shape of the nose in men suggests that its tip is in the same plane as the back.

Rhinoplasty in men is performed for both aesthetic and medical reasons, when a violation of the shape of the nose interferes with normal physiological breathing. So, if it is necessary not only to change the shape of the nose, but also to improve the patency of the nasal passages, an operation called rhinoseptoplasty is performed, which corrects the shape of the nasal septum.

Higher nose: rhinoplasty that changed your life

How I decided

There probably comes a time in every girl’s life when she wants to change something. I had such a turning point in December last year, when I broke up with my boyfriend...

Of course, I had already thought about slightly adjusting the shape of my nose. But these were just fantasies. Now I was determined and I started looking for a surgeon who could do the job efficiently, so that the result would be as natural as possible.

Igor Bely caught my attention . Reviews about him on the Internet were extremely positive, examples of his work spoke for themselves. After making an appointment with him and personal communication, my last doubts disappeared. I was sure he would help me.

— When will you be ready for surgery? — Igor Anatolyevich asked me at the end of my visit

“Right now,” I answered, and I understood that now is a week before the new year. Risky? Ha! Not at all!

Day of surgery

I admit, my courage disappeared somewhere on the day of the operation. Still, for the first time, serious interference awaited me.

Overall, the operation was easy. For about 40 minutes. There was an incomprehensible fatigue. I had a terrible headache. And there's a cast on my nose. I was in no hurry to look in the mirror. I knew that I shouldn’t expect beauty right after the operation. When the plaster was removed, I saw my new nose for the first time - beautiful, neat, although at that time a little swollen. But the swelling went away quickly and literally 10 days after the operation I was already in Thailand (Igor Anatolyevich allowed me to go to the sea and sunbathe).

I am glad that I decided to undergo rhinoplasty and fell into the hands of a master of his craft - Igor Anatolyevich. He did everything so professionally that my friends didn’t even notice any changes.

And my ex proposed to me! I don’t know what influenced it (laughs): a new nose or just a coincidence!

Expert commentary

Igor Bely, Doctor of Medical Sciences, plastic surgeon, leading specialist at the OTTIMO aesthetic surgery clinic:

“Twenty or thirty years ago, rhinoplasty was something supernatural. Today this is a common operation that has become one of the popular procedures for aesthetic nose correction. Now you don’t need to be shy, put up with your shortcomings and try to live with them.

Rhinoplasty can solve various aesthetic problems, including correcting the shape of the nose, eliminating a hump or snub nose.

In rare cases, rhinoplasty is not worth doing. As a rule, it is not recommended to resort to its help if there are anatomical features of the structure of the face, or more precisely the upper jaw, that affect the final result. An experienced surgeon will be able to see all the nuances, warn and advise how best to act in a given situation.

Modern technologies allow specialists to make do with minimal incisions - in cases where endoscopic intervention is possible. In addition, the rehabilitation process has been simplified. If you follow all the recommendations, in particular, do not injure the skin (you cannot do peeling, polishing and other cosmetic procedures), then the result of rhinoplasty will be pleasantly surprising. As a rule, the first visible effect will be in about a month and a half. But the final result is only in six months or a year.”

Operation description

Before the operation, an examination and consultation are carried out. The patient has the opportunity to discuss with the doctor their wishes regarding the new shape of the nose and see the expected result on a computer model.

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, although tip surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. There are two methods of nose surgery, which the surgeon chooses depending on the complexity and volume of the operation. Open rhinoplasty allows you to clearly see the surgical site and perform extensive operations. An incision is made in the skin along the internasal septum. The scar from such an incision is noticeable in the early postoperative period, but is practically invisible after healing. Sometimes, to significantly reduce the width of the wings of the nose or narrow the nostrils, additional incisions at the base of the nostrils may be necessary. In closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made in the lining of the nasal passages. As a result, traces after the operation are completely invisible. Access for rhinoplasty can be through the nasal cartilage, between the cartilages, or along their edges. The surgeon knows all types of approaches and chooses them depending on the purpose of the operation, the thickness and condition of the skin, soft tissues and nasal cartilage.

The creation of a new nose shape is carried out as carefully as possible - with minimal tissue excision. The new nose configuration is created by cutting the cartilage and stitching it together.

Lengthening the tip of the nose is carried out by changing the shape of the cartilage and using cartilage grafts of the desired shape. Plastic surgery of the tip of the nose is performed using various techniques, depending on the nature of the changes. The surgeon carefully narrows the domes of the cartilage of the tip of the nose, changing the location or shape of the lateral crura of the cartilage if necessary, and excising excess soft tissue. The surgeon’s detailed and jewel-precise work allows you to achieve an aesthetically correct nose shape.

How to decide on rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can be closed or open, it all depends on the nature of the operation performed. It is worth noting that with closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nose, so no scars will be visible. Alas, this type can be used very rarely, since it is very difficult for a surgeon to work with it. During the open technique, the doctor may have full access to the cartilage and bones, but after such an operation scars remain, which will disappear after some time. During rhinoplasty, it is imperative to correct both the shape of the nose and improve or maintain all the capabilities of the respiratory tract.

Rhinoplasty can only be performed on people at least 17 years old, because only at this age is the cartilage of the nose fully formed. Today, plastic surgeons are doing real miracles. Only they are able to change the appearance of their patient. But do not forget about a complete examination of your body, as it will help to identify in advance all the risks of rhinoplasty. Trying on a new face is quite possible.

What you need to know about the postoperative period

For several days after rhinoplasty surgery, special absorbent turundas are inserted into the nasal passages, which prevent bleeding in the postoperative period. At this time, you can only breathe through your mouth. Turundas inside and a fixing plaster bandage outside help maintain the new shape of the nose and protect the tissues from displacement. This type of fixation also helps reduce swelling after surgery. To reduce swelling, you can apply cold to the surgical area for the first 4 days.

In the first weeks after rhinoplasty, the doctor recommends sleeping only on your back and not eating strong, rough foods. Also you can't smoke. You should wash your face so as not to get the bandage wet. You should not independently remove threads from the nasal passages, which may cause discomfort, as there is a risk of the seams coming apart. If you feel discomfort in the nasal cavity, contact your doctor.

To care for the nasal mucosa and speed up the separation of crusts, it is recommended to gently lubricate the mucous membrane with almond, peach or apricot oil. To rinse the nose, the doctor may recommend salted or sea water, as well as special solutions.

The first 7-10 days before plaster removal

For 1 day after rhinoplasty, you will have to breathe only through your mouth, since there will be special cotton swabs in your nostrils. They maintain shape and control swelling. A light plaster cast will be applied to your face. Usually everything is accompanied by hematomas and swelling. This is normal.

After 3-5 days, the turundas will be removed. Usually at this time the patient receives some relief. It becomes possible to breathe through your nose. But the swelling does not subside, so congestion is possible. Under no circumstances should you touch the plaster cast. On the third day after rhinoplasty, the photo will not be informative, since swelling and bruises will interfere. During this period, you cannot bend down or sleep, preferably half-sitting so that your head is held high.

7-10 days after surgery, the surgeon removes the plaster cast. But you shouldn’t hope that you can see the final result immediately after this. Once the swelling is not controlled by the cast, the nose will appear larger. Swelling is a completely normal phenomenon at this stage. After the operation, a week later you can carefully clean the entrance to the nostrils with a cotton swab, which was previously moistened in three percent hydrogen peroxide. A week after the plastic surgery, a photo of the nose is taken, immediately after the plaster is removed.

Contraindications for rhinoplasty

Most of the contraindications to surgery can be classified as relative, that is, after they are eliminated, rhinoplasty again becomes possible for the patient.

  • For inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nose and sinuses (rhinitis, sinusitis);
  • In case of allergic reactions to anesthetic agents;
  • For acute infections and their chronic forms in the acute stage;
  • For chronic diseases of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, etc. in the stage of decompensation;
  • Blood clotting disorders and a tendency to increased bleeding;
  • Infections and inflammation of the skin near the surgical area;
  • Malignant neoplasms;
  • Diabetes.

Prognosis after rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty gives good long-term results. Rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty allow you to achieve the desired shape of the nose, as well as solve the problem of difficulty in nasal breathing. The results of the operation usually last throughout life.

To what extent does rhinoplasty change your appearance?

Since the nose occupies a central position on the face, rhinoplasty can lead to a dramatic change in appearance. To get a realistic idea of what you will look like with a “new” nose, we use a computer modeling program. By modeling the image, even before the operation, we will show you various options for changing the shape of the nose.

What are the risks and complications?

Complications such as infections are very rare and can usually be prevented with antibiotics. With extensive rhinoplasty, there may be temporary numbness of the tip of the nose, or increased sensitivity of the nasal passages, a temporary change in the color of the skin of the nose, a temporary disturbance in the thermal sensitivity of the tip of the nose (it is necessary to protect the nose from hypothermia in cold weather, and in the sun, make sure that the nose does not burn)

When will I be able to see the final result?

A noticeable improvement is observed after the sutures are removed, despite the fact that the final result of aesthetic rhinoplasty can be objectively assessed only after six months. The result of functional rhinoplasty, aimed at improving breathing, can be objectively assessed within two weeks after the operation.

It would seem, what does the patient’s gender have to do with surgery to change the shape of the nose? In fact - huge! Firstly, nose surgery for men is most often used as a way to correct injuries, while for women, surgery is more often a way to adjust the face to the female ideal of aesthetic facial beauty.

And even if the operation pursues an aesthetic goal, the criteria for facial beauty are still different for men and women, so there are serious differences in the surgical technique. The ideal of a beautiful female nose is a neat small nose with an upturned tip, while the ideal of a man is a brutal wide nose, preferably with a hump, like Tom Cruise. So plastic surgery of a hump of the nose can also have the opposite task - not to remove the hump, but to create it.

Elimination of nasal defects using rhinoplasty

Surgical intervention can restore normal respiratory functions and correct deficiencies of bone and cartilage tissue in the nasal area. If you decide to change the shape of your nose using rhinoplasty, the main task is to find a clinic with decent, modern equipment and a plastic surgeon who has the proper qualifications and experience.

You must completely trust your doctor; the outcome of the operation directly depends on the fruitful cooperation between the doctor and the patient.

But you should not shift all responsibility to the surgeon. During the consultation, you must describe the nature of your defect as clearly as possible, report all previous operations performed, and state all the necessary medical history. Before rhinoplasty, you will need to undergo tests that will confirm your readiness for it. There are a number of contraindications to the operation; if at least one of them is present, rhinoplasty will not be performed.

After the operation there follows a difficult period of rehabilitation, when you need to strictly follow all the recommendations of the attending physician, otherwise complications may arise.

Male rhinoplasty

If you are interested in rhinoplasty for men, photos before and after the operation will allow you to conclude that injuries in men, although they are the main reason motivating for surgery, are still far from the only one.

List of indications for surgery

The full list looks like this:

  • consequences of injuries (especially important for athletes who engage in strength sports: boxing, hockey, wrestling, and so on);
  • congenital pathologies of the shape of the nose;
  • chronic nasal congestion;
  • irregular nose shape;
  • aesthetically unattractive nostril size (too large or too small);
  • the patient’s desire to change the shape of the nose;
  • deformed bridge of the nose or its incorrect location;
  • breathing problems;
  • problems with the bone or cartilage structure of the nose;
  • sinusitis or its consequences.

Contraindications

There are also contraindications, as with any operation, they look like this:

  • age up to 18 years (cartilage tissue is still forming);
  • blood clotting disorder;
  • age over 60 years (usually this is the extreme age limit for a plastic surgeon);
  • HIV or viral hepatitis;
  • oncological diseases;
  • chronic somatic diseases;
  • acute viral or bacterial infections;
  • acute respiratory tract diseases;
  • sinusitis (including chronic form);
  • nose diseases;
  • diseases of the tissues adjacent to the nose;
  • herpes;
  • cardiovascular diseases.

Rhinoplasty of the nose in men is not a complex operation, therefore individual operations can be prescribed despite the presence of contraindications. The decision is made by the doctor after the patient has passed all the necessary tests.

Types of rhinoplasty in men

There are three ways to perform rhinoplasty:

  • open rhinoplasty;
  • closed;
  • non-surgical rhinoplasty for men.

Open rhinoplasty

– the doctor opens the tissues of the nose, which allows him to get maximum visibility. This method is the most traumatic, but is irreplaceable when eliminating the consequences of injuries or serious congenital anomalies. After the operation, the patient faces a painful rehabilitation period.

Closed – performed through small incisions, usually used for cosmetic surgery. Correction or secondary surgery may be needed. The rehabilitation period is short and painless.

Non-surgical

– reduction of the wings of the nose without surgery or other minor correction, carried out using fillers or hormonal drugs. If you look at the photos before and after filler injections, you will see that this procedure also gives, albeit a small, but lasting effect. And customer reviews indicate that the procedure is safe if non-synthetic fillers are used.

If you want male rhinoplasty surgery to be completed without consequences, you must follow all the doctor’s instructions before and after the procedure.

Price

The more complex the operation, the more it will cost. The price depends on what work is planned by the surgeon. For example, changing the shape of the nostrils will cost 70-90 thousand rubles, plastic surgery of the tip of the nose will reach 90-150 thousand, but changing the structure of the nose will cost more - 200-250 thousand.

Rhinoplasty of the nose in men is indeed a slightly different approach to surgery than in women. This is explained by the anatomical features of the structure of the male nose, since it should have a shape and geometric structure that is more proportional to the face.

Moreover, when working with male noses, the surgeon must take into account many important factors, including:

  • type of appearance;
  • the character of the patient, since this will largely determine how a man with a “remade” nose will be perceived.

As for direct anatomical differences in the structure of female and male noses, there are none as such, except, of course, the very shape and size of the nose (in men, usually, this organ is larger and well defined).

How to fix a defect

Plastic surgeons very often face requests from patients to remove the hump from the nose and correct its shape. The only effective way to do this is rhinoplasty . With its help, you can change the shape of the nose for both female and male representatives, regardless of where this cosmetic defect came from, whether it is congenital or acquired.

Each person has his own individual size of the hump and its severity, as well as the perception of the hump and the nose as a whole. A Roman nose in men with large facial features can look quite harmonious, while in women the same cosmetic defect does not look entirely aesthetically pleasing.

When planning rhinoplasty, the plastic surgeon uses a computer to make a forecast of how the person will look after the plastic surgery. After all, the shape of the nose and its length can either emphasize the general impression of a person’s appearance or do the opposite.

Thanks to the latest medical developments, rhinoplasty operations achieve amazing results in changing the shape of the nose, while the treatment has become less traumatic . But you should remember that the result largely depends on the clinic and plastic surgeon you choose.

During surgery, to remove the hump, the specialist needs to perform resection of bone and cartilage tissue. After this, the position of the bones changes. A hump can also be eliminated during surgery to correct the nasal septum or during correction of the width of the nose.

You should know that when correcting a hump, the skin is not removed . It is reduced and redistributed after the operation is completed. If a patient has thick skin, it is more prone to scarring and swelling than thin skin.

When planning a plastic surgery, the surgeon must take into account many different factors, for example, the anatomical features of the organ, age, gender, nasal breathing and others. In this case, the new nose should be in harmony with the existing facial features.

Laser technologies in rhinoplasty

The use of lasers has opened up new opportunities for doctors in various areas of medicine, including rhinoplasty, where pinpoint precision is required in performing the operation.

The advantages of laser rhinoplasty are as follows:

  • The plastic surgeon can direct the laser beam to the desired location with an accuracy of a fraction of a millimeter. Thanks to this, the incisions do not damage nearby tissues.
  • The method has a hemostatic effect. The blood stops very quickly, which minimizes blood loss during surgery.
  • The laser stimulates tissue regeneration: the wound heals quickly and efficiently. The scar after the operation is almost invisible.

Rhinoplasty safety

How dangerous any surgical procedure is depends on the experience of the surgeon, as well as on the technical equipment used during the operation.

Any surgical treatment carries a certain risk for the patient’s health , rhinoplasty in this case is also no exception. But if the operation to correct the shape of the nose is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon who is thoroughly prepared before this operation, then rhinoplasty will be as safe as possible.

Please note that the safest method of surgical intervention in this case is laser rhinoplasty.

Types of operations by complexity

Rhinoplasty has three levels of difficulty:

  1. First level. Surgery to correct the tip of the nose at the level of cartilage only. Surgery is performed under local anesthesia.
  2. Second level. During the operation, not only cartilage is affected, but also bones, in which case general anesthesia is already necessary.
  3. Third level. Performing centoplasty (restoration of the septum) or other complex operations. It is also performed under general anesthesia.

It should also be noted that operations to correct the shape of the nose can be either open or closed. Closed access is more often used, it has a shorter recovery period and less noticeable cosmetic defects.

Usually the operation lasts four hours, then you will have to be under the supervision of doctors for another day.

How to prepare properly

The decision to have plastic surgery should be made very responsibly and carefully. To do this you need to do the following:

  • Carefully choose a clinic that uses modern technology and has experienced doctors.
  • During your consultation, tell your specialist what size and shape you would like. Tell us about all the diseases that you have at this time and what you had before, what medications you are taking.
  • Don't look for cheap clinics - it may end badly.

Postoperative rehabilitation

How long the rehabilitation period will last depends on how successfully the operation went, on the qualifications of the surgeon, and also to a large extent on the patient himself and his behavior. Therefore, in order for recovery to proceed as quickly and comfortably as possible, you must follow these recommendations:

  • The first three days must be kept in bed or semi-bed rest. Try to keep your head in an upright position.
  • To reduce swelling, apply a cold compress around the cast for the first three days.
  • During the first days, you should not strain your eyesight; limit working at the computer, reading books, etc.
  • Drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited for 2-3 weeks, as they increase swelling. Also limit or stop smoking tobacco altogether.
  • Washing your hair yourself is only allowed as a last resort. At the same time, your head should be thrown back.
  • After removing the plaster (7-12 days), wipe the crust formation area several times during the day with diluted alcohol.
  • Ask your doctor if you can wear glasses if necessary.
  • Try not to blow your nose, only sneeze with your mouth open.
  • It is not recommended to visit the bathhouse or sauna for 1-2 months.
  • Stop playing sports for 3-6 months.
  • When going outside, use sunscreen.

The final result of the rhinoplasty will be visible in a year, and what it will be will also depend on you.

Thanks to rhinoplasty, you will get a neat, properly shaped nose and feel more confident. People who have corrected this organ on their face look at themselves in the mirror with pleasure and no longer avoid profile photographs.

  5. Long recovery period.
  6. A change in appearance that may differ from the patient's expectations.

What is rhinoplasty?

Plastic surgery on the nose is called rhinoplasty.

It is done for two main reasons. First: eliminating serious respiratory problems; and the second: changing the ugly shape of the nose, which does not suit the patient.

Rhinoplasty is the most complex operation in the world of plastic surgery, but it still has enormous fame. The fact is that every person has some kind of flaw in the nose that can spoil a beautiful face: narrowed or wide nostrils, a huge hump, a raised or curved tip, a nose that is too long. Often plastic surgery is done to hide one's race. It is also worth noting that this operation not only helps to make the nose beautiful, but also helps to cope with the problem of the respiratory tract. The deformation of the nose does not allow breathing normally, and for this reason the patient is prescribed rhinoplasty. This operation is also prescribed for all kinds of nasal injuries. Just a few years ago, plastic surgery was quite risky, but today modern technologies completely eliminate all risks and help to obtain the desired result. Before the operation begins, a computer model of the future nose and face is compiled, from which it will be possible to determine and select the desired shape of the nose.

Types of rhinoplasty in men and their features

Today there are three main types:

  1. Open surgery.
  2. Closed operation.
  3. Non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Typically, the surgeon himself chooses the type of rhinoplasty that is most suitable for each specific case.

Open

Open rhinoplasty is performed by opening the tissues of the nose.

It provides a good overview for the plastic surgeon, which allows him to eliminate even large defects of a given organ as much as possible.

The disadvantage of open rhinoplasty is the high tissue trauma and tendency to swelling.

Closed

Closed rhinoplasty is performed through small incisions that will not be noticeable after the operation. Due to limited access to tissue, the surgeon can only repair small defects in the nose.

Non-surgical

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed on both women and men if they have indications. This procedure makes it possible to slightly correct the overall shape of the nose and remove minor defects, without resorting to surgical intervention.

Today, non-surgical rhinoplasty is gaining increasing popularity for the following reasons:

  1. The patient does not need to undergo anesthesia.
  2. The result is visible almost immediately.
  3. With this procedure, a person has the opportunity to permanently change the shape of the nose.
  4. The procedure is short (no more than an hour).

There are several types of non-surgical plastic surgery:

  1. Plastic surgery with fillers
    involves injecting the patient with a gel filler into the area of the nose that needs correction. Typically, drugs called Perlane or Restylane are used.

The duration of this procedure usually takes 20-25 minutes. After this, the patient can immediately go home.

The main disadvantage of filler rhinoplasty is considered to be its fragility, since a year after the procedure, the nasal tissues again acquire their previous appearance, because the gel is absorbed. For this reason, the person will need a second operation.

Also, sometimes during this procedure the filler flows. This threatens with deformation of the nose and the need for secondary surgery.

  1. Correction with hormonal drugs will help reduce nasal defects.
    For this purpose, drugs such as Kenolog and Diprospan are most often prescribed.

This correction has the following features:

  • it must be carried out very carefully, correctly calculating the dose, since excessive administration of the drug can cause the opposite effect (deformation of the nose);
  • the procedure should last two weeks with several sessions;
  • If such rhinoplasty is performed correctly, the effect will be quite long-lasting, but there is one drawback - frequent administration of hormonal drugs can cause the development of soft tissue atrophy.
  1. Plastic surgery with aptos threads
    will make it possible to eliminate minor defects in the wings of the nose and its tip. These threads are inserted through small punctures. Next, the surgeon performs a nose lift and gives it the required shape.

The disadvantages of this method are the risk of scarring, threads protruding through the skin or breaking.

  1. The application of a plaster or plastic splint is used to improve the contour of the nose.
    This device will correct the shape of this organ by pressing on its cartilage tissue.

Indications for applying a splint are:

  • the formation of serious nasal defects after injuries;
  • “dips” of the nasal bridge or its drooping;
  • asymmetry;
  • presence of a hump;
  • nose too wide;
  • irregularities on the back of the nose.

In general, the non-surgical technique helps to eliminate only minor imperfections that cause discomfort to a person or spoil his appearance.

This technique is much simpler than traditional surgery and safer for many reasons (less risk of complications, no severe pain, quick recovery, etc.).

Psychological and emotional side of rhinoplasty

The psycho-emotional status of the patient is primarily influenced by his appearance. The face and nose in particular are the element that is immediately noticeable. If a person considers the shape of his nose to be far from ideal and he does not like the profile photo, then he loses self-confidence and gradually develops an inferiority complex.

Plastic surgery is a way to correct imperfections. It determines self-perception and self-esteem indicators.

Psychological infusion before rhinoplasty

It is necessary not only to prepare physically for nose correction surgery, but also mentally. To do this, the surgeon evaluates the client’s wishes and his view of the ideal shape.

Often patients cannot decide to undergo surgery due to fear of rehabilitation. Rumors, reviews from friends, stories from the Internet are replete with stories about acute pain during the recovery of the body. This moment is stored in the head and creates the impression of a difficult stage in life, which is difficult to survive.

It is important to have emotional support from loved ones. You should protect yourself from phrases from loved ones such as: “Your nose is good without surgery,” “You don’t need to change anything.” They only cast doubt, and it is more difficult to tune in to a positive result.

Before rhinoplasty, you need to prepare for possible post-operative criticism from others.

It is worth remembering that preliminary psychological preparation is an important component of the success of plastic surgery.

Condition during the recovery period

A new appearance brings not only external changes, but also a renewal of a person’s inner world.

About 20% of patients note that they are neutral about the results of the operation. Based on practice, rhinoplasty increases self-esteem by 48%. Many clients of plastic clinics emphasize that they become more confident by correcting their facial features. This fact is explained by the fact that stiffness, complexes and the conviction of self-dislike disappear. There is a feeling that the nose is close to ideal. The emotional state improves and thanks to this, social status grows.

Some patients after rhinoplasty do not gain self-confidence and face depression and problems such as:

Inconsistency with the desired result. Often a person thinks about the ideal shape of his nose for himself and overextends his expectations from the procedure. Having removed the postoperative bandage, he sees that the real effect is completely different. A psychological barrier arises that is difficult to cross. At this moment the idea of a secondary operation arises.

The desire for new plastic surgeries. With a positive outcome from rhinoplasty, sometimes there is a desire to correct other facial features, for example, the shape of the cheekbones or lips, in order to achieve ideal proportions. If the patient is dissatisfied, then sometimes there is a goal of performing a second operation to improve the psychological mood. This condition is called “Dysmorphophobia” - an addiction to changing appearance.

Difficulty accepting the new you. With dramatic changes in shape, the facial expression changes. For example, a thick tip of the nose with wide wings smoothes out the face, and vice versa, a straight nose without a hump gives a stern and stern look. Therefore, a person, looking in the mirror, does not immediately realize the changes.

Guilt. Some experience betrayal of their natural appearance. It seems that by reshaping the nose, self-disrespect develops, because the person did not like the natural appearance. Sometimes pity develops so much that the patient decides to undergo secondary plastic surgery in order to restore natural characteristics.

Rules for preparing for surgery

Before undergoing classical rhinoplasty (surgical method), men must undergo the following tests:

  1. General blood analysis.
  2. Blood test for clotting.
  3. General urine analysis.
  4. Test for hepatitis, HIV infection and syphilis.
  5. Fluorography.

A week before the procedure, you should visit the following doctors for consultation:

  1. Therapist.
    He will review the tests, measure blood pressure and temperature. This specialist will also learn about the person’s general health and, if everything is normal, will give permission to perform rhinoplasty.
  2. The surgeon who will perform the operation.
    The future patient should learn from this specialist about the progress of the operation and the expected results. The man also owes the doctor information about possible consequences and complications.
  3. Anesthetist.
    It is necessary to decide with him the issue of choosing anesthesia and the peculiarities of its course. The patient can also ask questions about possible sensations after anesthesia.

A week before rhinoplasty you should not:

  1. Expose yourself to stress and nervous strain.
  2. Drink alcohol.
  3. Smoking.
  4. Eat junk food, especially sweet and fatty foods.
  5. Apply any cosmetics to your face.

A week before the procedure you must:

  1. Eat a balanced diet.
    The basis of the diet should be fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates and proteins (meat and fish).
  2. Get enough sleep to be full of energy.

On the day of surgery, you should not eat or drink anything. You should also shave your beard or mustache.

Preparation for rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty consultation.

The main stage of preparation for nose surgery is a rhinoplasty consultation. Here the patient receives all the necessary information about the operation and the postoperative period. The surgeon conducts a study of the respiratory function of the nose, finds out the patient’s health status, the presence of allergic reactions, and a tendency to keloid scars. A prerequisite is to examine the internal structures of the nose. For a more thorough study of the functional and anatomical features of the nose, it is necessary to conduct a computed tomography or x-ray examination. Based on the information received and test results, the risks associated with the upcoming operation are studied, and the list of necessary postoperative procedures is discussed.

Rhinoplasty: computer modeling.

An important point in the preparatory period is modeling the result of the planned nasal plastic surgery on a computer. The visual picture gives a more complete picture of what the surgeon wants to achieve during the operation and allows for mutual understanding between him and the patient.

Tests before rhinoplasty

In order to be sure that there are no contraindications to the operation, it is necessary to carry out the necessary tests before performing it. Mandatory ones include:

  • general blood analysis
  • general urine analysis
  • blood chemistry
  • blood clotting test (coagulogram)
  • analysis for the presence of AIDS, syphilis, hepatitis
  • blood electrolyte test

In addition, you need to provide a medical document that will indicate your blood type and Rh factor. In certain cases where additional tests are required, you may be asked to have a facial x-ray taken in consultation with an appropriate specialist.

In addition, you need to take some more steps to prepare for rhinoplasty. Before surgery, you should avoid alcohol, take anticoagulants (aspirin, thrombus, etc.), and, if possible, stop smoking. Operations are not performed during menstruation, acute respiratory infections, exacerbation of chronic diseases and the presence of inflammatory processes in the area of operation.

Before surgery, it is recommended to wash your hair, since it is not advisable to wet the postoperative bandage. On the day of surgery, you must come to the clinic on an empty stomach (do not eat or drink). After completing the paperwork, the patient is escorted to the ward, where photographs are taken and prepared for the upcoming operation.

Features of rehabilitation

To recover as quickly as possible after surgery, you should follow these recommendations:

  1. In the first days after surgery, you need to stay in bed and avoid any physical activity, especially bending, as this can cause severe bleeding.
  2. It is advisable to sleep on a high pillow so that the swelling subsides faster.
  3. It is recommended to apply cold compresses to the nose to reduce swelling in the soft tissues.
  4. After the operation, special turundas will be inserted into the nose. They cannot be pulled out without a doctor, as they are needed to prevent bleeding.
  5. In the first weeks after rhinoplasty, you should only sleep on your back to avoid accidentally damaging your nose.
  6. You should eat liquid and soft foods. Also, dishes should not be very hot.
  7. You need to wash your face carefully so as not to accidentally wet the bandage.
  8. Dressings on the nose must be done daily, even after discharge home.
  9. Do not blow your nose or sneeze, as this may cause bleeding.
  10. If you experience discomfort, high fever or purulent nasal discharge, you should immediately inform your doctor.
  11. To prevent your nose from drying out, it is recommended to lubricate it with sea water or apricot oil.
  12. You should wear a plaster cast for at least a week. It will prevent accidental damage to the nose and protect it from infection.
  13. You will need to breathe through your mouth for several days after surgery.

You should also follow these post-operative tips:

  1. Do not wear glasses for five months after rhinoplasty.
  2. Do not take a hot bath or shower.
  3. Do not visit the sauna, solarium or swimming pool for six months after surgery.
  4. Avoid direct sunlight on your nose for two months after surgery.
  5. Stop smoking.

Personal experience: how I did rhinoplasty

An ENT specialist is the first of several specialists you will need to see in the week before surgery. A long list of mandatory tests can be intimidating, but you can see all the doctors in one visit to the clinic (before rhinoplasty you need to take a blood test, do an ECG, an X-ray of the chest, sinuses, and get a therapist’s opinion). So the worst thing is the anticipation of the operation itself. In my case, what caused the most worry was not the result (I just knew I would have a beautiful new nose) and not the rehabilitation (as it turned out, everything was really easy), but the anesthesia. As a child, I had a not very pleasant experience of an operation under general anesthesia, when the immersion itself was long and difficult, and the awakening was difficult.

Half an hour before the operation, the anesthesiologist listened to my worries and promised that this time I would fall asleep much easier. In fact, the doctor greatly underestimated: I not only fell asleep easily, but “passed out” in an instant without a hint of unpleasant viscous sensations. They measured my blood pressure on the operating table, and the next thing I remember is I’m already waking up in the ward. There is a bandage on my nose and turundas inside, but there is no pain or dizziness, and half an hour later I was having lunch and sending scary selfies to my friend.

The night in the hospital was easier than I imagined. Many girls who have undergone nose correction say that nights with a stuffy nose have become the most restless and painful. If this is truly the most painful thing in their life, then I am sincerely jealous. Breathing through my mouth did not bother me, and after the operation I always feel sleepy, so you easily fall asleep, breathing as best you can. Even in the first days after the operation, the temperature may rise, but I only felt weakness.

The next morning I returned home. I was worried that I would feel bad without the pain-relieving drip that was given to me in the hospital, but in the end the package of Nurofen remained untouched - there was no pain.

On the third day, the doctor changed the tire and took out the turundas - I was able to breathe. From that moment on, crusts began to accumulate in the nose, which had to be carefully cleaned out several times a day with the help of Vitaon balm. I did this for a week - the splint is removed on the 10th day after the operation. All this time I went to work - wearing a medical mask - and felt great. The bruises and swelling went away quickly, and after removing the splint, I easily masked the remnants with foundation.

By the way, it is not difficult to hide the fact of the operation (if there is such a desire). People around you are actually not that interested in why you wear a mask, and to the few curious ones I answered whatever came to mind: you had your septum corrected, you fell off your bike, you just got sick. However, I personally didn’t make a big secret of my rhinoplasty and discussed the operation with close friends and colleagues.

I first saw my new nose on the day the tire was changed, but I was finally able to see myself when the bandages were finally removed. What I saw was beautiful, despite the swelling.

Emotions after successful plastic surgery can be compared to happiness when Santa Claus brings exactly what you have been waiting for a whole year. Skeptics say that surgery will not help you love yourself more or become happier. But they just didn't try. The ability to change annoying imperfections in your appearance is like winning the lottery, and if you have found a surgeon you can trust, there is no need to hesitate.

What you need to know about rehabilitation after rhinoplasty

After removing the splint, it is necessary to undergo a course of physical therapy to speed up the decline of the swelling, but do not think that therapy will remove the swelling completely. After a total of 12 different treatments (ultraphonophoresis and magnetic therapy), my nasal tip remains tight and will most likely remain so for several months, and maybe the whole year.

Sometimes after removing the splint, the nose begins to hurt slightly. For example, if you walk a lot and climb stairs. Therefore, sports and swimming are postponed for a month. Also prohibited are saunas and even hot baths. You can't actively sunbathe yet.

You cannot wear glasses for a couple of months after surgery. At least with nose pads that leave marks on the skin. But my rehabilitation was in May, so sometimes it was very difficult to manage without sunglasses. I chose the lightest ones, and still after the first day the bridge of my nose ached in my glasses. So, if possible, it is better to plan the operation for the cold season.

The swelling lasts for a long time both outside and inside, which means that morning and evening cleaning of the nose with cotton swabs will become a familiar ritual (besides, blowing your nose is sometimes painful).

After removing the splint for some time at night, it is necessary to tightly seal the bridge of the nose with a bandage to avoid swelling in the morning. Keep this in mind if you go on vacation after the operation (you will need to remember to use the patch even after late-night parties) or decide to start a new romance: you are recommended to sleep with your nose taped for the next 2-3 weeks, which may change your plans for the night.

  • What: closed rhinoseptoplasty (with correction of the nasal septum)
  • Cost: about 170,000 rubles, including anesthesia and hospital stay
  • Length of stay in the hospital: 24 hours (you need to arrive at the clinic an hour before the operation, you can return home the next morning)
  • Duration of operation: 1.5–3 hours
  • Before surgery: consultation with an otolaryngologist and the results of medical tests as prescribed by the surgeon are required.
  • After surgery: a course of physical therapy is required
  • Rehabilitation period: 2 days with a stuffy nose, 10 days with a splint on the nose, from 5 physiotherapy procedures after removing the splint; the need to fix the bridge of the nose with a bandage at night for two weeks after removing the splint; prohibition on wearing glasses, active tanning, playing sports, visiting the steam room and swimming pool for 1.5–2 months after removing the splint; A course of antibiotics is required for a week after surgery
  • End result: the nose takes on its final shape a year after surgery

Possible complications

Most often, after rhinoplasty, patients experience the following problems:

  1. Hematoma.
    It develops as a result of soft tissue injury and internal bleeding. Eliminated by medication or surgery.
  2. The appearance of bruises under the eyes.
  3. Swelling occurs due to severe tissue trauma.
    This complication usually occurs with open rhinoplasty. Swelling may also increase with excessive physical activity of the patient.
  4. Bleeding can occur both during and after surgery.
    This is due to the fact that there are many small capillaries in the nose, so this organ is well supplied with blood and is often susceptible to bleeding when injured.
  5. After anesthesia, the patient may experience the following sensations:
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • increased body temperature;
  • weakness.
  1. Inability to breathe through the nose due to severe swelling.
  2. Loss of nasal sensation can develop when the nerve endings are accidentally damaged by a surgeon.
  3. Infection can lead to purulent nasal discharge and high fever. This condition can be treated with strong antibiotics.
  4. Scars may appear after surgery due to prolonged wound healing.
  5. A discrepancy between the patient's expectations in the final result of the operation occurs when the technique of performing rhinoplasty is incorrect.

Also, after surgery, a person may experience significant aesthetic defects in the nose.

These include:

  1. Seams coming apart.
  2. The appearance of a beak-shaped nose.
  3. Drooping of the tip of the nose.
  4. Curvature of the nasal septum or its back.
  5. The appearance of rough scars on the nose.

One month after surgery after removing the cast

2 weeks after rhinoplasty, the main swelling goes away and bruises under the eyes disappear. The consequences of the operation will no longer be noticeable. After two weeks, you need to come for a consultation, where a photo will be taken after rhinoplasty. You need to be patient.

2 weeks after the operation, the swelling is almost not noticeable externally, but it is still there. If rhinoplasty of the tip of the nose has been performed, then within two weeks you can return to life as usual. After such an operation, recovery is faster, because the bone section was not affected.

After 3 weeks, you also need to take a photo in order to compare the nose before and after surgery. The swelling is still going down, the nose is gradually “deflating”. Although the period is still too short to talk about any results, photos taken at 3 weeks show this eloquently.

1 month after rhinoplasty, the nose begins to take its shape. And although it is still very early to evaluate it, the main swelling goes away at this time. It is at 4 weeks after rhinoplasty that you need to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon. At this time, a photo is taken to evaluate the result. After a month, you can be treated with antibiotics, visit the bathhouse and sunbathe. But in the latter case, it is important to protect yourself from sunlight. Sometimes after this time, the nose hurts after rhinoplasty. There is usually no pain, so it is important to consult your plastic surgeon about this issue. If the patient seems to have crooked nostrils or is having difficulty breathing, then this is also not a reason to worry; it is important to tell your surgeon about this. Repeated rhinoplasty after a month is impossible.
