ANTI-AGING EFFECTS AND SAFETY OF DMAE IN COSMETOLOGY

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): additive

Due to the fact that studies on the toxicity of dimethylaminoethanol were carried out relatively recently, drugs containing it were initially produced in the form of a food additive. They typically contain natural DMAE from salmonids and are marketed as cognitive enhancers and vitality boosters. In this form, it is much easier to obtain the required amount of dimethylaminoethanol , since the natural production of this compound by the brain occurs only in small quantities, and regular consumption of products with it, such as sprat, sardines, anchovies and salmon, is not always possible.

General information

DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol, Deanol, Deaner) is an amine naturally produced in small quantities in your brain. High levels of DMAE are also found in seafood such as anchovies and sardines.

DMAE

Researchers have suggested that DMAE may increase acetylcholine levels in the brain by blocking choline metabolism in peripheral tissues.

By preventing other tissues from using choline (including synthesis into acetylcholine), DMAE increases choline levels in the bloodstream.[

Once DMAE crosses the blood-brain barrier, it increases choline levels in the brain. So with higher levels of choline present, you would assume increased levels of acetylcholine.

But research has shown that this is not always what happens when DMAE enters your brain. In one study, DMAE was rapidly injected into the brain. But when it reached the synapses, nothing happened. Choline levels increased, but were not converted to acetylcholine.[second]

- What's going on here? First, we need to look at how acetylcholine is produced. It is synthesized in a one-step reaction catalyzed by the enzyme choline acetyltransferase (ChAT). The limiting steps in the synthesis are the presence of choline and Acetyl coenzyme a (acetyl-CoA) .

The only other source of acetylcholine is the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (PC) by phosphatidylethanolamine methyltransferase (PEMT), and this synthesis of ACh occurs only at cholinergic receptors.

Thus, it appears that DMAE cannot be converted to either choline or ACh. The only way DMAE can increase choline is by blocking choline metabolism.

And the reason choline levels increase in the brain when DMAE is supplemented is because choline is not synthesized into acetylcholine (Ach).

So why do some neurohackers experience benefits of increased concentration, clearer cognition, and even antidepressant effects with DMAE?

It is possible that DMAE stimulates the cholinergic receptors to act. With the extra neuron floating around due to DMAE, these neuroreceptors may decide to produce some extra ACh.

DMAE may be helpful for those dealing with choline deficiency in the brain. And research shows that the effectiveness of DMAE in the brain depends on the health of the cholinergic system in your brain.

But as neurohackers we have more effective options available for boosting choline in the brain. Centrophenoxine, which is a combination of DMAE and cCPA (parachlorophenoxyacetic acid), appears to stimulate acetylcholine in the brain much more effectively than DMAE.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): properties

The action of dimethylaminoethanol is very multifaceted. The main properties of this compound include the following:

  • DMAE is a powerful antioxidant and protects cells from the destructive effects of free radicals;
  • stimulates brain activity, improves memory and concentration;
  • has an immunostrengthening and anti-inflammatory effect;
  • improves blood chemistry;
  • ensures complete saturation of cells and tissues with oxygen;
  • promotes water retention in connective tissues;
  • gives a surge of vigor and energy;
  • rejuvenates the body at the cellular level;
  • helps increase the conductivity of nerve impulses from the brain to the muscles, significantly tightening them;
  • cleanses the body of dead cells and their waste;
  • improves mood, normalizes sleep;
  • increases skin elasticity.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): Applications

Dimethylaminoethanol has found wide application in human life. It is used in the chemical, textile and paint industries, as well as for water purification, but its main areas of application are pharmaceuticals and cosmetology.

based on DMAE , which have proven themselves in:

  • diseases of blood vessels and heart;
  • cerebrovascular accidents;
  • increased physical and emotional stress;
  • memory loss and Alzheimer's disease;
  • attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

DMAE , along with creatine, whey protein and other sports supplements, is used by bodybuilders to stimulate muscle growth.

In addition, it is advisable to use drugs with dimethylaminoethanol as a preventive measure for age-related changes in the body, especially in combination with a complex of vitamins.

Cosmetics manufacturers often use DMAE as a base for the production of care products for aging skin, as well as in the production of soaps and shampoos.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): in cosmetology

Dimethylaminoethanol is a very popular and sought-after drug in modern cosmetology. This is due to its ability of DMAE to increase the amount of acetylcholine in tissues. Acetylcholine is a substance necessary to maintain muscle tone and normal functioning, but over the years its amount in the body steadily decreases, which is manifested not only by a decrease in muscle tone and loss of elasticity of the skin, but also by increased fatigue, deterioration of memory and thinking, and depression. The only way to slow down these processes is to replenish the lack of active acetylcholine through internal and external use of DMAE .

The effectiveness and safety of the use of dimethylaminoethanol in cosmetology has been proven relatively recently, but the results of the studies have caused an unprecedented surge of interest in this compound and, as a result, the emergence of new cosmetic anti-aging products for superficial (cream, serum) and intradermal (mesotherapy) use.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): for skin

Based on the above, the benefits of dimethylaminoethanol for the skin become obvious. Under the influence of this compound, aging skin of the face, neck and décolleté regains smoothness and elasticity. However, this happens not only due to an increase in the amount of acetylcholine, although this is a determining factor. The complex anti-aging effect is achieved thanks to the ability of DMAE to act in several directions at once, namely:

  • strengthen cell membranes;
  • increase the level of metabolic processes in the skin;
  • remove waste and toxins, in particular lipofuscin, which accumulates in cells over the years and causes age spots;
  • neutralize free radicals that negatively affect the synthesis of elastin and collagen.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): lifting

The lifting effect of topical use of dimethylaminoethanol was officially confirmed after a double-blind study in 2002. It was found that regular application of 3% DMAE to the skin of the face significantly increases its elasticity, reduces the severity of wrinkles on the forehead and in the eye area, and these changes are long-term. In 2005, the safety of long-term (up to 1 year) use of dimethylaminoethanol . Moreover, DMAE to have a cumulative effect, i.e. the result depends on the duration of use of the product.

DMAE is the basis of my skin care, and I have been nurturing a post about DMAE in my head for several years. I am writing this based on a 2005 study and as part of my series of articles on research .

Let me remind you that these publications are the result of my translation of English-language scientific research, my adaptation of them for a wide audience, as well as my personal short explanations and comments, and are subject to copyright.

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE): mesotherapy

Recently, one of the most popular anti-aging salon procedures is mesotherapy with dimethylaminoethanol . Its relevance is due to the fact that:

  • a positive result is noticeable immediately after the first session;
  • the effect lasts for a long time (maintenance procedures need to be carried out only once every six months);
  • mesotherapy with DMAE can act as an alternative to surgical correction of facial contours;
  • this procedure is safe, since dimethylaminoethanol is of organic origin and is well tolerated by the body;

The essence of mesotherapy with DMAE is the sequential administration of the drug using the micropapule method. The course of such treatment, as a rule, ranges from 3 to 6 procedures, on average 10 minutes each. The list of indications for the use of injections with DMAE is quite extensive - in addition to problems associated with a natural decrease in the tone of the muscles of the face and body, this therapy is effective for:

  • cellulite;
  • age spots;
  • stretch marks on the skin after childbirth or weight loss;
  • scars from burns, injuries and surgical interventions;
  • rosacea;
  • skin inflammations;
  • defects after unsuccessful cases of using botulinum toxin (Botox);
  • baldness.

I agree with some comments regarding the antidepressant effect - it is present, although it does not manifest itself so actively, but it suppresses internal negativity and pessimism. My sleep did not become stronger, exactly the opposite: on the first day I took the capsule an hour after breakfast and the same for lunch. Result: I fell asleep only at 4 am, having first experienced the side effects of terrible fatigue (“shaking” from the inside, in my sleep, with a subsequent increase in intracranial pressure). I woke up at 9 am, and when I move I still feel like my nervous system is “sausaging”. Therefore, taking this into account, I lowered the rating a little. I think everything that happened was solely due to the individual characteristics of the body. The dosage is also individual, as clearly evidenced by the packaging (Daily value NOT established). I'm 29 years old and do a lot of mental work.
