Hair bleaching is a good alternative to depilation. It will help solve the problem of unwanted hair for girls with sensitive skin and a low pain threshold. The procedure does not cause any discomfort. It allows you to hide hair in hard-to-reach places. The effect of lightening is observed for a long time. Even thick and long hairs become barely visible after treatment with bleaching compounds.
Lightening vellus hair on the face
The most well-known remedy for bleaching facial hair is hydrogen peroxide. The drug from your home medicine cabinet has a destructive effect on melanin, which gives hair its color. The hydrogen peroxide molecule differs from the water molecule by 1 extra oxygen atom, the bond with which is very weak. The extra atom is easily separated from the molecule, entering into a chemical reaction with other substances. Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizing agent. Melanin belongs to amino acids that are easily destroyed by oxidation.
Most often, unwanted hair appears on girls above the upper lip. The hairs can be quite long, dense and thick.
To bleach small fuzz above the lip, it is recommended to use hydrogen peroxide with a concentration of 3%. Moisten a cotton swab with it and wipe the problem area daily 1 or 2 times a day until the desired effect appears.
The bleaching of unwanted hair depends on its hygroscopicity (ability to absorb water). The higher it is, the faster the hair will lighten. Thin and light hairs will become discolored within a few days. If you are persistent, you can achieve not only lightening, but also a significant reduction in their density and thickness.
Instead of hydrogen peroxide solution, you can use hydroperite tablets. They contain 35% hydrogen peroxide. To obtain a 3% solution, you need to dissolve 1 tablet in 1 tbsp. l. water.
To make the hair lightening process faster, ammonia must be poured into the hydrogen peroxide solution. It will act as a catalyst and accelerate the oxidation reaction. In 50 ml of solution you need to add 6-7 drops of ammonia. It is important to strictly adhere to the recommended doses. If there is an excess of ammonia, the hair will turn red.
The composition must be applied to the face immediately after preparation, since oxygen atoms quickly evaporate. The substances should be mixed in glass or porcelain containers. After hydrogen peroxide comes into contact with the metal, the excess oxygen atom will react with it, and clean water will remain in the container.
Using lightening products on body hair
The consumer market offers many different ways to make unwanted hair less noticeable.
These are the usual hair dyes, tonics and shampoos. Surgi cream positions itself as a relatively safe product for gently lightening unwanted hair. It does not spoil the structure, does not burn out pigments - it simply makes the hair color closer to flesh-colored.
Composition of the product:
- water;
- hydrogen peroxide;
- methyl alcohol;
- polyethylene glycol-20;
- extracts of aloe, maple, honey and fireweed;
- stearic acid;
- liquid paraffin;

- stearyl alcohol;
- propillarabene.
Components included in the additional cream activator:
- water;
- petrolatum;
- ammonium hydroxyl;
- liquid paraffin;
- sodium lauryl sulfate;
- methyllaparaben;
- propillarabene.
The product does not have any special beneficial properties, but they are replaced by the main advantage compared to most home lightening methods: the dosage of ingredients is selected in such a way that the cream does not irritate the skin and does not leave burns.
Shampoo Sheer Blonde
The special feature of Sheer Blonde shampoo is its gentle lightening of dark hair. The final color will depend entirely on the initial one, but after 3 weeks of regular use, the shade should become 3-4 shades paler. Sheer Blonde shampoo is a good option for restoring peroxide-burnt hair
Compound:
- water;
- uv filter;
- lactic acid;
- chamomile;
- perfume composition;
- lemon and sunflower extracts.
The shampoo restores the hair structure, accelerates growth and protects against the harmful effects of sunlight. Another useful property is additional skin hydration.
Schwarzkopf concentrated brightening shampoo is an option for maintaining the required shade and restoration, protects against ultraviolet radiation.
Composition of the product:
- water;
- propylene glycol;
- fragrance;
- perfume composition;
- coloring pigment;
- panthenol;
- silk protein;
- sericin;
- glycine amino acids;
- glycerol.
Shampoo should be used on previously colored or bleached hair. The manufacturer promises that after a month of use the product will make the shade clear and long-lasting.
Shampoo REDKEN
REDKEN shampoo is a gentle and safe lightener, but it is recommended to use it exclusively for its intended purpose: for the head. It not only copes with its main task, but also promotes active hair growth. REDKEN shampoo lightens hair by 2-3 tones after 14-30 days of use
Included components:
- water;
- protein complex;
- citrus extract;
- mica;
- fragrance;
- propylene glycol;

For women with naturally light hair on their arms, hair bleaching procedures seem strange, and some out loud call them funny. But at the same time, it is a reasonable alternative to depilation and epilation, especially when these two methods leave behind the common problem of ingrown hairs. Dark hair on the arms does not look aesthetically pleasing
It is quite possible, and even successful, to lighten hair in the bikini area. But this must be done as carefully as possible: we carefully select each component included in the composition, and be sure to check it with an allergy test before use. Speaking about home lightening methods, it is recommended to exclude particularly irritating substances such as ammonia, etc. from the list of used ones.
Before you start lightening, you need to properly prepare the areas of skin with hair. Dirt, cosmetics or cream residues may react with the components included in the mixture and lead to undesirable consequences. But there is no need to pre-steam the skin. This may only be necessary when thick “stumps”—hairs that are just beginning to grow—are subject to bleaching.
The optimal time for lightening is considered to be the evening, as is the case with depilation. If the procedure is carried out in the bikini area or on a limited area of the body, then it makes sense to prevent the mixture from getting into excess space using fabric or paper towels. To prevent the lightening from happening in “pieces,” the mixture must be mixed well and, just as important, distributed in an even layer. And after the exposure time has expired, it is washed off without any means. Use after nourishing cream is mandatory.
Fun fact - all the disadvantages of chemical and some “folk” bleaches for hair on the head turn into significant advantages when used on the arms, legs and other parts of the body. For example, if after using the same hydrogen peroxide the hair becomes brittle and lifeless, then a similar situation with hair on the legs makes it easier to remove it in the future.
Other advantages of the procedure:
- availability of the funds used;
- painless process, unlike traditional hair removal;
- light hairs are not as noticeable as excessively dark hairs, even if there are a lot of them;
- after just one course of procedures they become dry, thin and brittle;
- regular use of some folk remedies also leads to hair loss and complete cessation of hair growth;
- does not require special skills and knowledge;
- the result lasts for a month;
- Lightening disguises hairs that are just beginning to grow.
But there were some obvious shortcomings:
- some of the recipes may injure the skin or leave a burn on it;
- the procedure is for the patient - it is almost impossible to achieve a good result in 1–4 sessions, especially when it comes to folk remedies;
- In some people, the components included in the lightening mixture cause allergies;
- under certain lighting or angles, hairs can be visible, sometimes clearly;
- most recipes dry out the skin;
- albeit slowly, the hair on the arms grows in the same way as on the head, creating a visible transition;
- sometimes lightening gives too white or red shades, which often looks strange and unnatural.
The first thing you should always do in order to eliminate possible problems is a trial test of the prepared brightening composition. To do this, apply a very small amount of the mixture to the elbow bend. If after 2 hours no irritation, redness, rash or burning appears, then the brightener can be safely used. Otherwise, you will have to turn your attention to something else and, most likely, having a more gentle effect.
Don't forget about such basic precautions as towels and rubber gloves to prevent the lightener from getting on excess skin. When carrying out the procedure in the bikini area, the mixture should under no circumstances end up on the surface of the mucous membrane. This can lead to severe irritation. If it was not possible to avoid contact, rinse immediately with plenty of running water.
Home lightening is contraindicated:
- during infectious, respiratory and other diseases;
- for open wounds, scratches, cuts, rashes or inflammations near the bleached hair;
- during pregnancy (most cases);
- undesirable during menstruation, because the blood contains an increased concentration of the hormone responsible for the stability of pigmentation.
Formulations prepared using chemical components always dry out the skin greatly - never neglect moisturizing with nourishing lotions or creams. Especially if the procedure is performed on areas with delicate skin: face, inner thigh or bikini area.
You also have to come to terms with the fact that bleaching is not suitable for every hair. The process very much depends on their structure, so in some cases the results are far from expected: a bright red, yellow or even strange shade appears. And if additional lightening does not change the color, then you need to choose among other methods.
To achieve hair bleaching, you don’t have to buy expensive shampoos and creams. Chemicals that can be found at home or purchased at any hardware store or pharmacy for little money are suitable for this purpose.
Hydroperite
The combination of urea and hydrogen peroxide in hydroperite tablets is quite capable of making dark hair on the arms, legs or stomach less noticeable.
Ingredients of the first composition:
- 1 tbsp. l. boiled water;
- 2 tablets of hydroperite;
- 10 drops of ammonia;
- a pinch of baking soda (on the tip of a knife);
- 4 drops of shampoo.
The second recipe consists of the same components, but has a higher concentration of the substance:
- 10 tablets of hydroperite;
- 1 tbsp. l. water;
- 1 tsp. shampoo (body gel);
- 2 ampoules of ammonia.
Cooking method:
- Grind the main ingredient and prepare the clarifier in a glass or porcelain bowl.
- After that, hydroperite should be thoroughly dissolved in water and the remaining components should be added.
- Immediately distribute the finished mixture onto problem areas.
- If your skin is sensitive or prone to irritation, it is not advisable to leave the mask on for more than 15 minutes; otherwise, you can keep it on your body for up to an hour. At the same time, carefully monitor the lightening process so that you have time to wash it off at the right time.
After the procedure, it is advisable to lubricate the treated areas with cream or any cosmetic oil (not to be confused with aromatic):
- almond;
- olive;
- coconut;
- wheat sprouts, etc.
Hydrogen peroxide
Lightening dark fuzz on the face
If the hairs are hard, thick and black, it will be difficult to lighten them with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. A more concentrated product of 8-12% will be required. You should try to apply it only to the hairs, avoiding the skin.
A composition with perhydrol will help to bleach black hair. This substance contains 30-33% hydrogen peroxide. To 50 ml of water you need to add 7 drops of liquid soap or shampoo, 10 g of ammonium hydroxide and 40 g of perhydrol. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the prepared composition will be 12%. Soap and ammonium hydroxide will speed up the oxidation process. If this product causes discomfort, you can use a less concentrated composition.
Add 6 drops of liquid soap to 60 ml of water, then add 10 g of ammonium hydroxide and 35 g of perhydrol. The oxidizing agent concentration will be 10%. To prepare 8% product, 65 ml of water is mixed with 6 drops of liquid soap, 12 g of ammonium hydroxide and 30 g of perhydrol. Instead of ammonium hydroxide, ammonia can be used.
To lighten hair on sensitive skin, it is recommended to use perhydrol ointment. To prepare it, you need to mix 25 g of lanolin with 15 g of petroleum jelly. Then add 5 g of perhydrol to the mixture. To enhance the effect of perhydrol ointment, it is recommended to drop 1 drop of ammonia into it.
The ingredients are thoroughly mixed and the product is applied to unwanted vegetation. The discolored area is rinsed with water after 15-20 minutes. After cleansing the skin, it is advisable to apply baby cream to the skin.
Lightening hair on the body and arms
Bleaching hair on the body and arms may take longer. Barely noticeable fuzz is wiped daily with 3-5% hydrogen peroxide.
It is better to treat thicker vegetation with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide (100 ml), ammonia (10 drops) and shaving foam (100 ml). You need to use regular white foam. Shaving gel should not be used. Apply the product to the hair for 10 minutes, then rinse the skin with warm water.
A composition containing 1 tsp will help discolor the fuzz on the body. toothpaste and 1 tbsp. l. hydrogen peroxide (3-5%). Toothpaste should be white without additives. The product is spread on the skin with excess vegetation, and after 1 hour the skin is rinsed with water.
You can quickly lighten your hair at home using baby soap. A piece of solid baby soap should be grated on a fine grater. The resulting shavings are poured into an enamel pan. Heat it over low heat until the soap melts. The soapy liquid is carefully poured into a glass container. Then pour 3 tbsp into it in a thin stream. l. hydrogen peroxide 3% or 5%. If perhydrol is used, it must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10. When the product has cooled to body temperature, it is applied to the vegetation. After 10 minutes, rinse the skin with warm water. After the first use, the hair will become noticeably lighter and weaker. With regular use, it will be possible to lighten dark fuzz in 1-2 weeks.
Products for bleaching hair on legs
If the hairs are long, dense and thick, you need to prepare a mixture of 3 tsp. perhydrol, 8 crushed tablets of hydroperite and 0.5 tsp. baking soda. The resulting paste is applied to the skin, trying to cover all the hairs. After 40-60 minutes, the product must be washed off.
To quickly get the desired effect, it is better to use 2 ml of ammonia (2 ampoules) instead of hydroperite.
You can bleach hair on your legs using cosmetic clay. It is advisable to use blue clay, which has bleaching properties. If you don’t have blue clay at hand, you can take any other one. 2 tbsp. l. blue clay is mixed with 1 tsp. hydrogen peroxide (10%), and add 6 drops of ammonia solution (10%) to the resulting mixture. The paste is applied to the skin and left until completely dry. Then the skin is cleansed with warm water.
Dark and red hairs will be made invisible by a mixture of 40 ml of perhydrol, 1 tsp. ammonium bicarbonate, 30 ml of water and 20 ml of shampoo or liquid vein. Thanks to ammonium bicarbonate, the composition acquires a viscous consistency. It is easily applied to the skin, does not drip and adheres well to the hairs. Ammonium bicarbonate is also an oxidation catalyst. It causes virtually no discomfort and smells better. After treatment with ammonium, the fluff does not turn red.
To discolor dark fuzz, you can order at the pharmacy or prepare your own ointment from lanolin (10 g), perhydrol (6 g), antifebrin (1.5 g) and petroleum jelly (20 g).
Hair bleaching with formulations containing hydrogen peroxide may be accompanied by a slight burning sensation. If the burning sensation is severe or redness and other changes appear on the skin, the procedure should be stopped.
Hair lightening products with lemon juice
Lemon juice has a pronounced whitening effect on hair. It is necessary to wipe the problem area with lemon juice several times a day. In summer, the treated area of skin can be exposed to sunlight for 20-30 minutes. Under their influence, discoloration will occur much faster. After just 1-2 weeks of regular procedures, the fluff will become much lighter.
Instead of lemon juice, you can use a solution of citric acid. To prepare it, you need 1 tbsp. l. dissolve powder in 2 tbsp. l. water.
You can lighten body hair with a mixture of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar (6%). 2 tbsp. l. vinegar mixed with 4 tbsp. l. lemon juice or citric acid solution. The liquid is applied to the skin 2-3 times a day for 10-15 minutes. After treatment, the skin may lighten a little.
To prepare a brightening mask, you need to beat 1 egg white into a thick foam and add 2 tbsp. l. lemon juice. The ingredients are mixed until smooth. The mask is applied to the area with dark fuzz and washed off after 15 minutes.
Squeeze juice from a medium-sized lemon. Add saffron (at the tip of a knife), 4 drops of lavender essential oil and 3 tbsp. l. dried chamomile flowers. Pour 1 cup of boiling water into the vessel with the ingredients. The liquid is infused for an hour and a half, then filtered and mixed with the juice of half a lemon. The product is applied to the hairs and washed off with water after half an hour.
To 1 glass of kefir you need to add an egg yolk, 50 ml of vodka and the juice of 1 medium lemon. The liquid is mixed and applied to areas with excess vegetation. After 40 minutes, the product can be washed off. The brightening effect of lemon juice will be enhanced by the lactic acids contained in kefir.
Our ancestors knew well how to bleach hair on the stomach and other parts of the body. For these purposes, an infusion of rhubarb was used. 2-3 stalks of rhubarb are chopped with a knife, then 1 glass of table vinegar (9%) is added to the pulp. Place the products on low heat, bring to a boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. After that, add 1 tbsp to them. l. dried calendula and chamomile flowers. Simmer the ingredients for another 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat, cool, then add 50 ml of vodka and the juice of half a medium lemon. The products are thoroughly mixed. The mixture is applied to the skin and after 20 minutes it is rinsed.
Lightening hair with folk remedies
Chamomile decoction
Chamomile decoction is often used to lighten hair on the head, but at the same time it is quite capable of dealing with excess black hairs. In addition, chamomile flowers are absolutely harmless and beneficial for irritated skin. It has no contraindications even for pregnant women, with the exception of individual intolerance.
You just need to pour 5 tbsp of boiling water into two glasses. l. dried chamomile flowers or the same number of sachets and let the product brew for about 5 hours. The brightening infusion is ready. It is enough to dip a cotton pad in it several times a day and wipe your dark hairs with it. And no less beneficial baths with the addition of chamomile and honey infusion will help strengthen and consolidate the result.
The medicinal decoction has a mild effect, so you should not expect results to appear quickly. To achieve truly noticeable lightening, it will take at least a month of daily treatments. But if you take into account the fact that irritations disappear from the surface of the skin, and it itself smoothes out and becomes velvety, it’s worth it.
If you are not allergic to citrus fruits, you can easily lighten your hair with lemon juice. Its principle of action is similar to hydrogen peroxide - “burning out” the colored pigment. This method must be used carefully. Lemon is especially effective when combined with walks in the bright summer sun.
The preparation method is extremely simple: squeeze the juice out of the lemon, wipe the desired areas with it and wait for it to dry. You can leave it on or wipe the treated areas with a disc or towel moistened with water. It is advisable to limit yourself to 1-2 procedures every other day, so the damage to the skin will be minimal. And in order for the acids to lighten faster, we make sure to go outside in sunny weather - under the influence of the sun, the hair begins to “turn pale” almost before our eyes.
Milk
Milk is another gentle option for those who cannot use hydrogen peroxide or other lightening agents:
- 100 ml milk;
- 10 drops lemon essential oil.
It will not work quickly, but if you wipe problem areas of the body with it every day, then after a few months the hair on them will become 1-2 shades lighter. But here a lot depends on the natural structure of the hair.
A mask with sour milk in just one use lightens hairs by 1-3 tones, or even more if they were initially thin or light. It is usually used for hair on the head, but it is equally suitable for arms or legs. For preparation you will need:
- 1 chicken egg (2 quail eggs);
- 2 tbsp. l. cognac (vodka);
- juice of 1/2 lemon;
- a few drops of shampoo (shower gel);
- 1/2 cup sour milk.
All components are mixed until smooth and infused for 1 to 5 minutes. Apply to areas with hair carefully, then wrap in plastic for several hours. If the mixture does not cause discomfort, it can be left overnight and washed off thoroughly using detergent in the morning. Repeat no more than 2 times a week.
Natural honey
Honey is not only tasty and rich in vitamins, but also a natural lightener. You can use it separately, diluting it with water and wiping the skin with hairs, or supplementing it with other folk remedies that have a similar effect:
- decoction of chamomile;
- lemon juice;
- some essential oils;
- milk, etc.
The basic recipe is that natural liquid honey is heated in a water bath and, if necessary, mixed with the rest of the ingredients. The warm mass is applied to the surface with dark hair and left there for a period of 30 minutes to 3 hours. Wash off with water.
Other hair bleaching products
For girls with sensitive skin, it is better to bleach their body hair with chamomile infusion. 3 tbsp. l. dry raw materials, pour 1 liter of water. The liquid is placed on the fire, brought to a boil, then left to infuse. The infusion is filtered and rubbed over the body several times a day until the hairs lighten.
Instead of chamomile, you can use linden, calendula and dandelion flowers. An infusion of these plants is prepared and used in a similar way.
Honey and cinnamon have long been used to lighten hair. To achieve results faster, it is recommended to use acacia honey. Mix 4 tbsp. l. cinnamon powder and half a glass of honey. The mixture is applied to the problem area for 15-20 minutes. The skin is then cleansed.
To lighten hair, apply acacia honey mixed with olive oil in equal proportions to the skin.
250 g of chopped rhubarb stems are mixed with 1 tsp. black tea. A little boiling water is added to the mixture to form a semi-liquid paste. After half an hour, when the mixture has infused and cooled, it is applied to the fluff. You need to wash off the composition after 30 minutes.
Lightening hair with herbs
The method involving hydroperite is not suitable for everyone due to allergic reactions. For girls with particularly sensitive skin, we can recommend a decoction of chamomile flowers. You need to take a little dried chamomile; three spoons per liter of water will be enough. It is worth noting that this method is more long-term than the first, but it is absolutely harmless and good for the skin. Bring the chamomile to a boil, remove and place in a dark place for a couple of hours until the broth has cooled. We wipe our hands or body with the resulting liquid several times a day.
Chamomile can be replaced:
- linden flowers;
- calendula;
- ordinary dandelion (in addition to lightening hair, it can also help get rid of warts).
