The duration of the drug depends on the dosage, injection site, frequency of procedures and individual characteristics of the body. In most cases, the effect lasts 4 – 12 months. During this time, the drug completely leaves the body and the anti-aging effect disappears.
Botox for the face has been used in aesthetic medicine for more than 20 years. Due to the low concentration of the toxin, it is considered a fairly safe remedy, naturally, provided that the procedure is carried out by a competent and experienced specialist.
When did you start using it?
Neurotoxin type “A” became known in the 19th century thanks to scientists from America; it was obtained in search of the cause of the disease botulism, which was characterized by an infectious lesion of the nervous system. Botox was originally used to treat nervous tics and seizures.
After 1900, scientists were able to isolate a toxin from the bacterium. It was initially tested on animals, then its effect was noted, wrinkles were smoothed out, and squint disappeared. Once in the muscles, the toxin simply paralyzed them. In 1978, they began testing drugs based on it.
And only a decade later, an American company began to produce drugs with Botox. After using the injections, scientists noticed that patients' wrinkles were smoothed out. It has been proven that in tiny doses the toxin does not cause harm to the body. And now, for thirty years he has enjoyed success in cosmetology, in Russia since 1994.
Compatibility issue between Botox and alcohol
The question of the compatibility of anti-aging injections and alcoholic beverages is still controversial, but most experts categorically do not recommend such a combination.
Coming to an initial consultation with a cosmetologist, the client receives many recommendations regarding the following points:
- for how long it is necessary to abstain from alcohol before and after the procedure;

The ban on compatibility applies not only to Botox, but also to its analogues; you cannot combine alcohol and Relatox (a popular Russian-made drug), Dysport, Botulax, Xeomin and others.
Who should refrain from the procedure?
It should be noted right away that after sixty years of age it makes no sense to give injections, because wrinkles have already formed and do not depend on the activity of facial expressions.
It is best to start doing Botox after thirty years of age. This period is most favorable for the procedure, since wrinkles can still be straightened with artificial blocking. After forty, of course, there will be no such effect.
You should avoid Botox:
- If you have a personal intolerance to the toxin.
- When a patient has a rare hereditary disease hemophilia.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
- People with myasthenia-like syndromes. These are ailments characterized by decreased muscle tension and rapid fatigue.

The effect of alcohol during Botox injections
If you drink alcohol after Botox injections, the body’s reaction can follow almost immediately:

In rare cases, the combination of alcohol and Botox can cause blood thickening and blood clots, which can lead to blockage of blood vessels.
Is it possible to drink alcohol before Botox?
It is not advisable to drink alcohol 3-5 days before Botox injections, and some doctors double this period. This is explained by the fact that ethyl alcohol, and especially the toxic products of its breakdown, disrupt metabolic processes in the body and are completely eliminated within a few days.
If you inject Botox immediately after drinking alcohol, you may not only not get the desired result, but also provoke an adverse reaction in the form of “slipping” of the face or the appearance of bumps under the skin. Sometimes a procedure performed after drinking alcohol can have the opposite effect and deeper wrinkles will appear.
Is alcohol allowed between sessions when there are several courses?

In this case, you can indeed drink alcohol during the break, but only if more than three weeks pass between sessions. It is important to follow the same rules here - do not drink alcohol 3-4 days before Botox and 2 weeks after the injection.
If the cosmetologist prescribed procedures with a shorter break, then you should not take risks, it is better to be patient until the entire course of injections is completed.
Why can't you drink alcohol after injections?
The recovery period after injection anti-aging procedures is a very important component of a good result. The first few days may cause pain, hematomas, and swelling.
