Clinical picture of alopecia areata (baldness)

Alopecia areata or focal alopecia is a trichological disease. With it, some parts of baldness appear. The causes of this disease are not fully understood. Scientists believe that alopecia areata occurs due to autoimmune reactions. There is no universal treatment for this, because each case is individual. There are folk remedies used at home. The disease appears in both women, men and children.

Alopecia areata occurs due to the inability of the hair follicles to stimulate hair growth. A feature of the disease is the appearance of areas in the form of an oval or circle. Alopecia areata causes great psychological discomfort. Therefore, constant care and timely treatment are important. If you go to the doctor in time and start treatment, you can prevent the development of a complex stage, when eliminating the disease is practically useless. This applies to men, women and children.

Symptoms

The disease looks like a thinning part of the head. It could be a small part or a huge one. Sometimes hair may fall out intensively, while in other cases it happens gradually.

The speed of recovery depends on the degree of the disease. If treatment is not started for a long time, the follicles may be completely destroyed. First, hair disappears on the head, and then it can disappear from other parts of the body: eyebrows, eyelashes, beard.

Indications for hair loss treatment with mesotherapy

Mesotherapy treatment is often used if the patient has focal or androgenetic alopecia. Other indications for the use of this treatment method are:

  • skin problems (presence of oily seborrhea, itching, dandruff);
  • hair loss due to stress;
  • severe dryness, brittle hair;
  • prevention of hair loss.

Contraindications

Mesotherapy is contraindicated for persons who take antiplatelet agents, have impaired hemostasis (body reactions that prevent bleeding) and collagen synthesis. The procedure is also not performed on patients with cancer, diabetes, or autoimmune inflammation of the walls of blood vessels (vasculitis).

It is prohibited to carry out such treatment for people who are allergic to the components of the drugs used, or if they have infectious or viral diseases at the time. A contraindication is the patient’s reduced immunity. Women should not resort to mesotherapy during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as during menstruation, when the pain threshold is increased and the blood clots more slowly.

Why does it appear?

The disease occurs in men, women and children due to various factors. Alopecia areata has the following causes:

  • hereditary factor. If relatives suffered from the disease, then it can pass on to the genetic level;
  • Lifestyle. Constant stress, lack of sleep and other negative factors lead to the occurrence of this disease;
  • infections. The causes of the disease lie in chronic diseases;
  • diseases. Disturbances in the activity of the autonomic and endocrine systems;
  • fungi. Alopecia areata may occur due to skin diseases;
  • immunity. Violations may be associated with immunity. This applies to both children, women and men;
  • damage. In medicine, the causes of the disease due to various injuries, bruises, and injuries have been noted.

How to treat?

Treatment of the disease is carried out individually, since all people may have different causes of the disease. For example, if there are difficulties with the endocrine system, then sedatives are suitable. They help restore the endocrine system and improve hair condition. Usually the medications used are the same, but the doctor must still identify the causes and prescribe effective treatment. In some cases, additional procedures performed at home are required.

In addition to all kinds of creams, ointments, tinctures, lotions used to normalize blood microcirculation, medications are used to nourish cells. Men, women and children are treated slightly differently, but the process is still similar. For this purpose, vitamin complexes and vasodilating cosmetics are used.

For the growth of new curls

To accelerate hair growth, cosmetologists use cocktails based on hyaluronic acid, coenzyme Q-10, and microelements (zinc, selenium, copper, cobalt and manganese). It is advisable to use either the classical technique or a mesoscooter. A course of mesotherapy can accelerate the growth of existing hair , as well as influence the appearance of new ones, awakening dormant hair follicles.

Traditionally, a standard course of 10-15 procedures is used, carried out once a week, after which new hair actively grows.

To speed things up, you can additionally take vitamins and microelements orally, in particular B vitamins and zinc.

How to treat yourself at home?

Alopecia areata can be treated at home. Although traditional methods cannot completely eliminate the disease, they still support the process. They provide complete treatment for baldness in children, men and women. Before starting the procedure, you should consult your doctor.

  • The best herbs for restoring hair growth are burdock (30 g) and nettle (70 g). The components are mixed, after which they are poured with boiling water. The container must be placed in a water bath for 15 minutes. After the passage of time, the finished composition is cooled and filtered. The decoction should be 200 ml. The product can then be used to rinse the hair after contamination.
  • It is necessary to mix plantain (15 g), burdock (15 g), calendula (10 g), mint (10 g), St. John's wort (15 g), corn stalks (10 g), immortelle (10 g), nettle (15 g) . The tincture is prepared similarly to the first recipe. The composition is used for drinking half an hour before eating. This must be done 3 times a day.
  • Alopecia areata is eliminated differently for everyone, although there are universal recipes. Treatment of women, men, children can be performed using the following recipe. Two days after washing, the hair is treated with diluted sodium thiosulfate (40%). An hour later, a 5% hydrochloric acid composition is used for the same purposes. Before processing with the second composition, it is necessary to change the cotton wool. This treatment should be performed at home for a week. This should be done daily, without washing your hair. After a week, you need to wash your hair with baby soap, rinse with a mixture of water and vinegar (1 tbsp to 1.5 l). The product is ideal for men, women and children.

Alopecia areata should be treated for 2 months. Then you can rest for a month and then repeat the session. If the effect is positive, then you can constantly maintain the normal condition of your curls. Treatment for men, women and children is best performed in spring or autumn.

  • Alopecia areata is eliminated with lemon juice (1 tbsp), which is mixed with onion, garlic, mayonnaise, honey (1 tsp). The finished product is used to treat hair before washing. Moistened curls must be covered with film and a towel. After half an hour, the product can be washed off. If the smell remains, the rinse water can be mixed with perfume.

For alopecia in women and men

More than 90% of hair loss cases in men occur due to androgenetic alopecia , or the so-called “male pattern baldness” of the parietal and frontal areas.

For androgenetic alopecia, the most effective drug is Minoxidil, which, when applied topically, stops hair loss and stimulates new growth. Its effect is based on a vasodilating effect, due to which there is an intensive supply of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles.

Mesotherapy complements this treatment. For alopecia, fractional mesotherapy using a cocktail containing zinc and copper is most effective. Thus, the cosmetologist purposefully acts only on areas of alopecia, without affecting healthy areas on the head .

During the first half of the course, sessions are carried out once a week, then once every two weeks. The maintenance course is one procedure per month lasting up to six months or a year.

As a result of such exposure, over time, the areas of baldness will be overgrown with new hair.

Mesotherapy alone is not enough to solve the serious problem of alopecia . The patient should be advised to consult an endocrinologist, women to a gynecologist, men to an andrologist to examine the hormonal status and identify the cause of hair loss.

What else is used in treatment?

  • To eliminate the disease, surgical intervention is used, when it is necessary to transplant curls from a healthy part of the head to the damaged one. If the result of the operation is positive, then the hair part is preserved for many years. Otherwise, a repeat operation will be required. The doctor decides on its implementation.
  • Treatment of alopecia areata is performed with glucocorticosteroids, which are injected into painful areas. These drugs have an immunosuppressive effect. If the affected part occupies more than half of the head, then such a remedy will not bring the desired effect.
  • Drugs containing corticosteroids are used. But such a remedy is considered low-effective, since even in combination with drugs that improve the penetration of hormonal drugs, it does not give a noticeable result.
  • It is possible to carry out immunosuppressive therapy, which is carried out on the basis of special medications.
  • If you use a suitable steroid, the disease will be eliminated in a short time.
  • There are immunotropic medications to normalize hair structure and eliminate baldness.
  • Photochemotherapy and adjuvant treatments for painful areas are often used.
  • When selecting remedies to eliminate baldness, the characteristics of the patient’s health condition and background ailments are taken into account.
  • Biogenic stimulants accelerate the process of tissue improvement. For this purpose, products based on leech saliva extract are used. For some types of disease, medications containing zinc are used.
  • All kinds of irritating agents, as well as stimulants, are used externally. For this purpose, products with silicon and therapeutic effects can be used.
  • Alopecia areata is treated with drugs that include naphthalan alcohol, tincture of pepper, and chilibukha.
  • Doctors often recommend using head masks, paraffin-based applications, and ozone therapy.
  • There are special techniques for treating the disease that give excellent results. These include classical acupuncture, electropuncture, and exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Diagnostics

The first thing that worries patients is which doctor to see. A trichologist deals with such diseases. He will collect anamnesis, evaluate complaints and first conduct a physical examination, during which he will identify a characteristic clinical picture. If the disease is in the active stage, there are most often no subjective symptoms. Some patients report itching and burning in the affected areas. The pathological process can spread to any area of the scalp, but in 90% of people the scalp is affected, and not other areas of the body.

Some patients suffer from specific dystrophic changes in the nails in the form of pinpoint ulceration, trachyonychia, and others. Half of patients recover within a year even without treatment.

After examining and assessing the symptoms, the doctor begins a comprehensive diagnosis. Laboratory testing consists of a microscopic analysis of the skin and hair to exclude pathogenic fungi.

Histological examination of a skin fragment is also recommended, but in the case of a chronic course, signs may be absent. To diagnose baldness, resort to:

  • clinical blood test;
  • serological tests for syphilis;
  • determining cortisol levels;
  • biochemical blood test for liver enzymes, protein, cholesterol, sugar and other indicators;
  • determination of immunoglobulins to parasite antigens.

They cannot do without instrumental diagnostics, which includes, first of all, trichoscopy. It helps to identify dystrophic changes in the hair.

If the disease is suspected in children under 12 years of age, a rheovasoencephalogram is used to identify pathological changes in the cerebral vessels.

If there are signs of a psychoemotional disorder, they are sent for consultation to a psychiatrist. A consultation with an endocrinologist is also indicated to identify pathologies of the thyroid gland.

It is recommended to consult a neurologist to clarify the scope and nature of the additional examination, as well as an infectious disease specialist to exclude parasitic infections. Involving additional specialists allows you to make an accurate diagnosis and select suitable means to combat the disease.

Preventive measures to prevent alopecia areata

To prevent this phenomenon, it is necessary to adhere to the rules of prevention. Moreover, thanks to them, other ailments will not arise. This will also help avoid complications.

  • It is necessary to regularly visit a doctor and undergo examinations. In this case, it is possible to prevent the development of the disease or prevent it.
  • You need to wash your hair weekly. Often this is not worth doing. You need to choose high-quality, proven products for washing. This applies to shampoos, balms, masks.
  • Avoid tight hairstyles as they damage your hair.
  • You should constantly make therapeutic masks based on essential oils and other natural ingredients.
  • Lifestyle also affects the structure of hair, so proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and avoidance of stress are necessary. You need to comb your curls and carry out all procedures carefully.

Alopecia areata is eliminated more easily in the first stages of development. Therefore, be more attentive to your health and begin to treat the disease on time.

Prevention

There is no specific prevention of baldness. Young men and women are at risk. The risk is higher in the presence of pathologies of the endocrine and nervous systems. Therefore, such people are advised to follow a number of recommendations:

  1. Use only high-quality shampoos to wash your hair.
  2. For hygiene procedures, use water with a temperature no higher than 40 degrees.
  3. Do not blow dry your hair or comb your hair when it is wet.
  4. Stop drinking alcohol.
  5. Avoid stress and emotional turmoil.

With such a diagnosis, there is no need to change your lifestyle significantly. There is no special diet, but doctors advise eating foods that contain a lot of zinc. Protein food is also necessary, since the hair structure includes a large amount of protein.

As a result of alopecia areata, a person experiences significant psychological discomfort. In some cases, professional psychological help may be required. But this pathology does not affect the general state of health and does not interfere with achieving success at work and in personal life.

It is important to remember that all treatments have not yet been proven to be effective, so some methods may even make the situation worse. Before trying new methods on yourself, it is better to consult a doctor.
