  An alternative method of breast correction without the use of implants is lipofilling. This is how it happened historically. Time passed, I wrote a candidate’s thesis, a doctorate, and became a professor. And then circumstances developed in such a way that it was necessary to open my own clinic. Do you have any original developments or your own methods?

Of course, I have my own achievements, and over 33 years in medicine I have received a number of copyright certificates, but I do not think that I have made a discovery, much less a revolution. Therefore, when I hear from surgeons (especially young ones) that they are the authors of some technique, I perceive this as no more than cheap PR. It is almost impossible to develop new operations. The ideas that the founder of modern plastic surgery, Jacques Joseph, described in his works more than a hundred years ago are still used today. Of course, today a slightly different technique is used, the materials have become much better, the possibilities have expanded, but the revolution has not happened. The revolution will only happen when plastic surgery is no longer needed. But I don’t see this in the foreseeable future, since aesthetic medicine will exist until the main problem is solved - old age.

Today there is a lot of talk about the fact that Russian surgeons have reached the level of their Western colleagues, and people who previously went abroad for surgery prefer to have plastic surgery in our country.

It's difficult for me to comment on this. To talk about a trend, it is necessary to rely on some research, certain statistical calculations. I don't have such data. I can only say that there are patients from Russia who come to me for surgery in Europe, but there are also a lot of those who, on the contrary, come here from abroad to Frau Klinik.

Why do you think people come to you and not to another clinic?

I don't know. Some people come to me, and I even refer others to other specialists myself. Of course, all types of operations are performed in our clinic, but it is impossible to comprehend the immensity, and there are things that I do not know, that I do not specialize in. And as a professional, I will never take on something that I am not sure of. Just like my colleagues, they refer their patients to me if they know that I will solve this problem better than them. But, unfortunately, not everyone adheres to such rules. There are surgeons who, for the sake of money, take on things they don’t know how to do. And this is the worst thing, because correcting the consequences of illiterate corrections is tens of times more difficult than initially performing the correct operation.

Sergey Nikolaevich, you are participating in the First Channel project “Ten Years Younger”. Please tell us how you got into it and what it gave you?

Many years ago, I participated in the first reality show in the history of Russian television about plastic surgery, “Beauty Formula.” There I performed about 20 operations. The producer knew me from this project and invited me to a new one - “10 Years Younger”, which has been going on for more than a year. What did he give me? To be honest - tired. I have a very busy schedule, of course, the film crew adapts to it, but still... I perform operations during the day, the program is recorded in the evening until nightfall, and the next day I go back to the clinic. But the most difficult thing for me in this project is filming, takes... Operations are familiar, this is normal, I have been doing this for many years, but filming is difficult.

Can you remember your longest, most difficult operation in your life?

When I was a young surgeon, reconstructive operations took 6-7 hours, but now I do them three times faster, the technique is so refined - to the extreme, to the smallest detail. This comes with experience - I don’t have a single extra move, everything is calculated for the moves ahead. This approach can significantly reduce correction time. For example, if endoprosthetics used to be done on average two hours, then this operation takes me about 20 minutes, a facelift took from 6 to 8 hours, and I perform any SMAS lift in no more than one and a half hours. However, in all the years of practice, I have not performed two identical operations; each patient receives a purely individual approach.

There are many “Best Surgeon” awards in your office. Are you proud of your achievements?

I don’t think I have any special achievements. I have worked and have been working all my life. Yes, I became a professional, can this be called an achievement? I don't know. And the awards are all nonsense. Awards exist in the army; they are given out for performing some kind of feat. And what you see in my office is nonsense.

If you don’t consider cups and awards a sign of recognition, then what?

You know, when I perform a demonstration operation, which brings together 200 surgeons from various cities specifically to see how I perform it, this is probably real recognition.
